It says that Windows Firewall automatically adjusts itself once you enable media sharing. I have no major issues when playing on Live so the router works in that regard. I just can't seem to get lucky as far as the ports go. I know what ones need opened:

When I go in to set my router up I see this:

I plug in the ports, setting and the IP address of my 360 and get nothing. Since the first picture says Subnet I once entered in the Subnet Mask that is displayed in Network Settings panel of my 360. I still didn't get it to work. I even updated my firmware for my router tonight and still nothing.

If anyone has any ideas I welcome them since I've spent countless hours on this since launch day and I always walk away from it with nothing to show. I never have this many PC problems so if you think you know what I am doing wrong post something for me to try or IM me. Thanks.

You absolutely do not need to forward any ports in your router for Windows Media Connect to work. Port forwarding in you router is ONLY to allow WAN to LAN communication on those ports. Presumably your PC and Xbox 360 are both on the same LAN; therefore, all communication between them is LAN to LAN only. The router's NAT and port forwarding do not come into play in that scenario.

The problem lies somewhere between your PC and the Xbox 360 or in an improperly configured network. Disable ALL software firewalls on your PC including Norton, Windows Firewall, etc. Make sure that the PC and Xbox 360 are actually on the same LAN--i.e. both connected to LAN ports on the same router (you don't have multiple routers involved do you?).

Check out this old thread on the subject. Look at my post #9 for a couple of screen grabs I made of my settings.

I deleted all the changes I had made to my router and turned off Windows Firewall. I still had no luck with WMP 11. I might try messing with the stuff again over the next few days but I need a break from the frustration. Thanks for the help everyone.

Just one thing did you make sure to import all the pictures and music you wanted to share into wmp 11 ? If you don't they won't show up on your xbox. When you open wmp look in your picture and music library to make sure everything is there. I had to do this to get it to work. Good Luck.

So, has anyone gotten video to play from their computer HD onto their XBox 360 with WMP 11?

Chris

I tried it, doesn't work, I have no idea why they said on the website it could be done. Pictures and music work fine.

All my media was visible in WMP 11 so I guess that is one part I did right. :)
Oh well.

Can you download the Star Wars Battlefront II content(maps, characters) for the Xbox on the Xbox 360?

It will be implented in the fall dashboard update.

movieking 09-03-06 08:57 AM

Despite trying a number of different things, I never was able to get any kind of communication between my computer and my 360. I'll give this latest update a try.

Has anybody heard of Senko no Ronde Rev.X? Is it coming out to the US?

I've seen it on someone's gamertag. I don't think it's coming to North America, though - at least, nothing has been announced.

movieking 09-03-06 02:31 PM

So I could actually connect using WMP 11, but can anyone tell me how I can get to the settings? I have been off and on with the connection, but can't figure out why. I want to see how it is set up, but can't find it with WMP11.

Open WMP 11, and click on the Library tab it will drop down, you should see Media Sharing... click on that to configure.

Yes. You can download maps and content for this game to the 360. I play SWBFII all the time on my 360. They did a great job of BC'ing this game to the 360.

You see, if they BC'd the game the way they're supposed to then just about anything you could do on the XBOX can be done on the 360. You can play on LIVE(if the game is allows it), download free stuff, and purchase content. I've had 2 problems with 2 differrent games so far. Knights of the Old Republic II runs like shit on my 360, and although it plays ok,one map on Crimson Skies refuses to download for me no matter how many times I've tried. Other than that the rest of the XBOX games I've tried on the 360 have worked well so far.

Be sure that you have WMP11 Beta 2 installed not version 1. Worked like a charm for me. It uninstalled Windows Media Connect. Be sure to have your 360 on when you start up WMP11 and it will recognize the 360.

Thanks alot. I have Star Wars Battlefront II for the PS2 and thought since its one of my favorite games, that I would get it for the Xbox Live content, plus I can play the game on Xbox Live AND download new characters and maps.

PwA 09-04-06 10:39 PM

hi guys, i bought madden 07 on release day, it has never been out of the system since and today i got a "disc is unreadable" error (when the game is loading, it shows all the screens and options etc..) i put in top spin 2 and it works fine, same with oblivion.

game has no scratches or anything.. what caused it and what do i do?!?

(im a big 360 noob, just bought the system a month ago!)

MasterofDVD 09-04-06 11:10 PM

Am I missing where it says 1 year of Live? The bundles are being packed with Live subscriptions but all I have seen says they are 2 month trials and nothing more.

Thanks for the clarification on that. I went ahead and ordered the set since it's foolish to pass on this when my Live subscription is up here soon. I just found out my buddy is engaged and his girlfriend, in the army, will be heading to Germany soon. I figured the camera could come in pretty handy.
