Supermallet 08-23-06 03:33 AM

Got my Texas Hold 'Em. I already unlocked the "I'm All In!" achievement.

Blitz6Speed 08-23-06 03:36 AM

Got 3rd place in a tourney already, but got beat buy pocket ace's at the last hand i played! DAMN! Oh well, i like the game, its just super time consuming to go through a full game.

Supermallet 08-23-06 03:43 AM

I won't play online until I get a nice bankroll on the single player. Your single player bankroll does apply to the multiplayer, right?

Giantrobo 08-23-06 04:36 AM

I can't play cards for shit but free is free.

xmiyux 08-23-06 05:48 AM

I'm almost done downloading it now. Woo hoo for free ;)

Now i just need to learn to play Hold Em.

Canis Firebrand 08-23-06 06:36 AM

I downloaded the game before work. Went really quick actually. I think it took me longer to turn on my xbox, tv, log in, and start the download then the actual download.

Pretty nice for free. I look forward to many nights spent playing poker with friends and DVDTalkers.

tbird2340 08-23-06 07:03 AM

Just reading this thread reminded me it came out today.. I had to call my wife and walk her through downloading it!

No, I didn't get it from Microsoft.
Yes, I picked it up at Toys R Us. 2 actually, 1 of which is on Ebay to pay for both cameras.

I'm pissed off right now that it's not working with Texas Hold 'Em. What the hell?!

I was thumbing through this thread before I left for work. Needless to say, I set it up before I left and was a few minutes late for work.

Canis Firebrand 08-23-06 08:05 AM

Hmm.. I should scope out my local Toys R Us..

If they have them out early, it could be worth it to buy now. :)

tbird2340 08-23-06 08:07 AM

I will be looking at Toys R Us today at lunch as well..

s}{ammer 08-23-06 08:13 AM

Yeah, I downloaded it at 1:04 this morning. I started one of the single player scenarios but who really wants to play poker alone?

So I joined a match game and had everyone else at the table goin all in since I had a King high straight. Needless to say I gained $755 for my bankrole, and earlier in that game got my all in achievement. Now when I get back to town tonight I will need to clean all you guys out of your bankrolls. :)

By the way, one of the knuckleheads I was playing with called it already, as soon as the camera is working, this is gonna become strip poker. Oh, and the music and sound effects suck. You really need your own music for this one.

Daryl 08-23-06 08:29 AM

Nice. Downloaded Hold'Em. Hit "Play Now" and my machine froze. Now I have the flashing red lights when I turn my machine on. My "free" download is gonna cost me $$$, apparently.

1998Nole 08-23-06 09:20 AM

I was impressed the download for Texas Hold'em went so fast. I know it is free forever if downloaded in the 1st 48 hours, but do you still have to confirm the download like other Arcade games? I just want to make sure that in 41 hours or so it won't revert to a trial version.

Canis Firebrand 08-23-06 09:57 AM

No camera at 4 local Toys R Us stores. Although 2 said they expected to have them later this week. I'll have to check back. Would be nice to get a camera early.

Blitz6Speed 08-23-06 10:04 AM

If i saw a camera, id buy a couple just to ebay them. I have no use for a camera in my game room where its 99% of the time dark with the projector goin full blast.

On a side note, i have to say im more and more impressed with Microsoft's efforts everyday. This free Texas hold em for 48 hours is a true show of faith for its already installed customer base. I was also reading how in Vista, you'll be able to do the functions of a 10+k buck high end audio receiver built right into vista from the get go! Certainly things are looking great for MS, with titles comming out at a very decent rate, capcom super happy with their great success's so far (SF2 online + Dead Rising both hits), it can only go up from here.

Liver&Onions 08-23-06 10:43 AM

Flay's poker review is up: http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/games/read.php?ID=455

As is his Camera review: http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/games/read.php?ID=454

DJ_Longfellow 08-23-06 10:53 AM

So, is there an "official" release date for the camera? Anyone get one in MI?

Michael Corvin 08-23-06 10:55 AM

I think it has more to do with saving face. They widely publicized that Hold'em would be free for months(beginning of the year?), only to change their mind and charge $10 for it. There would be some serious backlash by the diehard fans that have followed the game this long. These are the same diehard fans that would download it the title the first few days. Offering it free the first couple days satisfies the diehards and kills any backlash.

Canis Firebrand 08-23-06 10:55 AM

I think the official release date is Sept 19.

I contacted the following MI stores.

Westland - None, said they may have some later in week. Said camera is showing as released, but they didn't have it yet.
Novi - None, said they mave have some later in week. Said camera is showing as released, but they didn't have it yet.
Livonia - None, said they mave have some later in week. Said camera is showing as released, but they didn't have it yet.
Dearborn - None, said it wasn't even on their schedule for release
Madison Heights - None
Ann Arbor/Ypsi - None

DJ_Longfellow 08-23-06 10:58 AM

Thanks for the MI update...I wonder if prices on EBAY will still stay that high. I want to pick up two, 1 for me and 1 for EBAY. I'll check some other MI stores tomorrow probably...Roseville and Troy (by work).

From Flay's Texas Hold Em review:

Online games differ a bit from single player, though. Thankfully, there is a ten second timer in place so people don't hold up the game.
I don't like this. I hate speed poker. Sure, the games will move more quickly but it eliminates a lot strategy-wise. Without any sort of deliberation it's all going to be gut reactions for major decisions instead of logical thinking.

pinata242 08-23-06 11:07 AM

Can you request time?

It's not REAL money....get over it. I'm sure it makes other people HAPPY not having to wait a minute or more for someone to react.

From my multiplayer rounds, there is plenty of time to deliberate a decision even with the 10 second timer. Also, there may be a setting to turn off the timer. Check the search function in Custom game to see if that's a searchable option. But I doubt it will be a popular choice among Xbox Live players.

If that's the attitude, why even play at all?

The thing is I don't care if it's an average play with a standard size raise. But if some dude goes all in and it's going to cost me my entire bankroll to call, and I have a really good hand but not an unbeatable hand, I'd like more than 10 seconds to decide if it's worth risking my entire virtual bankroll. I don't want to have to muck every time some idiot who downloaded the game for ****s and giggles because it was free but doesn't understand poker goes all-in on me.

Those guys will be playing in the free areas. Im sure a lot of the big guns in the high $$$ tables will not be foolish. The 10-sec is plenty of time, you'd have to be braindead to not know what you want to do.

Flay 08-23-06 11:47 AM

Uno anyone? I already have a full copy, so the first to answer these five questions correctly will win my Uno code from the camera package:

1. How many VGT staff writers have reviewed Xbox 360 titles?

2. What month and year did TriXie of Xbox.com first come up with the idea of creating the female only group of Xbox 360 gamers called Gamerchix?

3. What is Major Nelson’s real name and what is his job title at Microsoft?

4. What’s the population of Willamette, Colorado?

5. What is the only Xbox 360 launch title that I haven’t played yet? (Does NOT include arcade)
Good Luck!

Canis Firebrand 08-23-06 11:50 AM

Too bad the code couldn't be used for any arcade game, or just gives equivelent point value.

That's the point of the persistant bankroll though. Odds are that people who all-in all the time will be stuck in the lower rungs of poker tables, while people who rely on actually playing the game will advance to higher stakes.

I set up a paypal account for the sole reason of taking yours. :)

And you'll be on the bottom rung, so you'll never see me in the high stakes areas unless they allowed a table watching option.

I'm just playing for fun. Updated 1 answer.

Canis Firebrand 08-23-06 12:26 PM

Yeah, I edited my answer for that one and made a comment about it.

And the other one I think I have wrong,
Spoiler:
I believe depends on the time range for launch window.

Hmm, not sure what you mean. The launch window includes anything up to November 22nd 2005. You are up to 80% though.
