This seems like a silly comment, but this and color are a couple of the most visible things about the Cube. And yes, it affected me, I thought it looked like a toy that a little kid would carry around. And of course I was interested in a toy.
That and the massive prevalence of Mario turned me off.

I like some 'cute' games, I like some 'mature' games. I'm sure there are some great games on the cube, but those two factors helped keep me away from it.

The controller also didn't look very comfortable to me. I'll admit I only tried it a few minutes now and then at demo kiosks, but I didn't get a good vibe from it. I was, however, familiar with the Dual Shock and knew I liked it.

The DVD player wasn't an issue for me, by the time I got a PS2 we already had three dvd players, but that surely helped in the first couple years of life.

Hey, the 32x had some great sports games..there was RBI 95, there was Motocross....um....hmm...out of fifteen games released, you'd think I would remember some of them.

I wonder how many Ps1 owners got a Ps2 first or only, and how many 'jumped ship' and got a Cube or Xbox first or only? Part of the reason I got a PS2 was that I loved many games on the PS1.
