Truth Revealed: PSP Beating DS Worldwide
5:00 -- PSP gets a focus. Why did they wait, and why now? The answer is that this was the right time for PlayStation Portable, with all the promise PlayStation offers. Unrivaled portable play rivaling PS2. PSP is the fastest-selling system in Sony's history, with 17mil units out there. Forecasts another 12mil in the global market for this year. 540 games and 47.3 million games shipped. (10:14:08 AM): Reggie is back. Talks about DS. Introduces George Harrison -- Wii is the future, but DS proves it right now. Compares DS sales to PSP, says PSP was for early adopters, but Nintendo's great games easily swept it away from there. 16million units of DS; PSP is "millions less." Oh Noes! rotfl |
But weren't you also saying that Nintendo reports units sold while Sony reports units shipped?
|
Josh, do you REALLY think that the PSP is "beating" the DS? Even if the claim that the PSP has 1 more million units out there is trye, they haven't sold as many games or have anywhere near the buzz that the DS has. Let alone the DS Lite will be released very shortly.
|
the ds is a much better gaming device, it does not surprise me it has outsold the psp.
|
That question was brought up, and I quickly pointed that once a company ships a product to a retailer, it is sold. That, and it is impossible to track ever unit as to when it leaves the store - that estimations on trends must be made.
Plus, one million units would be a sizable amount sitting on the shelves - enough to affect production rates (which Sony has reported of none). So 1 million sitting on the shelf is highly unlikely. |

Josh, you know the difference between sold vs shipped. Are you just looking to piss people off or do you forget your own words?

Oh, come on guys. Don't get all pissy because you can't say how Sony is getting their ass kicked by Nintendo.

Yes, it is a nice resource when the official is not available, but are you calling your boy a liar? The smell of despiration is not becoming on you. |

Why do I have to repeat everything to you 10 times? HERE: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=464433 And are you seriously going to use Wikipedia over the official source? Jeff - That's a personal attack. Please refrain from those things, one and only warning. I've edited your post.

You're right, Josh. Sony is the Best Company Ever and Nintendo sucks. You win. You can stop posting sales figures now and go play some video games. |
Crap. This thread ruined my day. I've only had my DS for about a month and only really had a chance to play 3 of the 9 games I bought for it. Guess the rest of them won't be as fun now.

So how can you in one thread use a reference and treat it as your basis of knowledge, but when someone else tries to use the same link that you provided it becomes useless knowledge? But after that month, is someone supposed to ignore progress and continue to use that official number? Or should they recognize that units continue to be sold, and that the month old data is no incorrect? Obviously, units continue to get sold, and in absense of official data, it is justified to use 3rd party data. Of course, once the official data is releaved again, that 3rd party data is superceeded by the official data. Look, I didn't buy when everyone said that when Nintendo came out and said the Wii was 3x the power of GC it wasn't official. Now we see that it was official. So yes, Nintendo said it, it is official. |

The first post just reeks of flame bait... especially with the rolling smiley at the bottom - and the title "Truth Revealed".

What a great thread. |
wait, regardless of the definition of shipped vs. sold, shouldn't the same numbers be used to avoid confusion -- # shipped vs. # shipped, and/or # sold vs. # sold?
