A little tough near the end levels but nevertheless, i think this in the best action game i have played in a while. I wish they would make a movie out of this game and not screw it up. If anyone of you love Greek Mythology, this game is for you. |
So I bought this game at the same time as Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory for my XBOX. I have been waiting for Chaos Theory for a long time, so I started with that. After reading all the reviews for God of War, however, I got intrigued and decided to play a few minutes. That was on Thursday. I haven't played Splinter Cell since and haven't thought about it since. God of War is truly an epic. My girlfriend sat next to me and watched me play for hours and said that it felt like she was watching a movie. Here's my list of awesomeness in this game:
1. Brutality - this game is just violent and makes no apologies for it. I love the fact that if you just want to mash buttons you can or you can do some pretty cool combos. Is there anything better than freezing someone with the Gaze of Medusa and then cutting their head off with the Blade of Artemas? 2. Graphics - Truly awesome. The game feels like you're watching a movie. Some of the scenes are just amazing!! 3. Sound - The soundtrack is perfect. Every single note seems perfect. 4. Gameplay - Better than almost every other game I've ever played. You never lose the flow in the game. Puzzles are incorporated so well...that most times you don't even realize you're solving a puzzle...you're just playing the game. Most other games have strict disctinctions between the puzzle aspect and the action/adventure portion. Really no stopping...I'm not playing on the hardest level, but I haven't had to restart from the last checkpoint more than 3-4 times and I'm at the Temple of Pandorra. That's pretty good and makes you feel like the game is one big adventure and not a series of different levels. 5. Bonus features - the disc is packed with extras. Most are locked but the making of the game and trailers are unlocked and awesome. I can't wait to finish the game to see the rest of the special features. Truly an awesome game. Here's hoping that they release a few sequels to this. BTW, I agree with other posters that this game would make an incredible movie. If they follow the Sin City route and just copy the exact scenes from the game to the movie...they can't go wrong. |
The puzzles are actually quite good--they make sense, and aren't impossible to figure out.
However, I got frustrated last night--maybe I just suck, but I'm at the place in the Challenge of Atlas where I fight sirens and guys with shields Spoiler:

I beat the game this weekend in about 7 hours on Easy Mode. The Easy mode doesn't change any of the puzzles or story at all (I hope); only the difficulty of the fights. I liked the game a lot, sure I played Easy Mode and pretty much breezed through it but it was great fun and I like to be able to enjoy the game and not have to worry about being killed in really tough battles.
It's great that they made such a great variance in difficulties; that makes it accessible to all gamers and not just hardcore people that have the patience to beat games like Devil May Cry 3 and Ninja Gaiden. While I don't have a problem with the sex and titties in the game they are too few and far between. Basically you have some titties and that sex mini-game after the first level and then pretty much nothing else worth mentioning after that. Because of that the little that there is seems slightly out of place and unnecessary. -- fab |
Pdutta: yeah, that's the place. I'll try that tonight.
Fab: that's a good point, about the lack of sex scenes later on. But throughout most of the game, Kratos is in violence-and-vengeance mode, not getting-down mode, so it mostly makes sense in the whole scheme of things. And there are relatively few [living] women by the time Kratos gets to each area. Even Spoiler:
The game would not be 'incomplete' without that scene, and it might be somewhat unnecessary [except to show point/counterpoint where Kratos's focus is], but I don't think it was gratuitous. |

Hey DTCarson and Big Dave...that room you're in is all about time. I played it again and sitting in the corner doesn't do anything. You need to beat it fast. The way I used was Zeus' Fury. Get in there and smash the shields...then unleash the fury. Don't waste time with hack and slash cause it won't work. Hope this helps.

Basically, I pulled out what i call the Ginsinator... The sword that you get at the beginning of this place. I call it the ginsinator because it chops through creatures like a ginsu knife through a tin can. Use that. Using that, I was able to Massacre everything with time to spare to run over to the safe spot. The sword takes out the regular guys in like 2 hits and the sirens in like 3. So use that and you should have no problem :) |
To beat those guys in shield, you need to use Square,Square,Triangle attack. Works like a charm!!

I'm not going to get this game because I don't do Sony anymore. But I saw the demo being played at two stores yesterday and I must admit it looked great.
|
Thanks for the tips. I'll try that when I play it tonight. I was so frustrated with it the other day that I had to lay off of it for awhile. It's still an amazing game though.

Just beat it last night. Took me about 11 1/2 hours on normal (Hero). Absolutely a great game, I had a ball every second of the way. As far as Game of the year talk goes though, I would have to still give my vote to Resident Evil 4.

Just talked with my friends over at EB, and this game is selling systems. Can you imagine someone this late in the game picking up a system and memory card just to play this game? That truely shows how great this game is.

This shows the power of System Exclusives. |
I bought a PS2 this weekend with the game. I sold my old PS2 this fall but there were some PS1 games and some PS2 games that I wanted to play again. God of War was another good excuse to get another one.

It also helps to attract the last enemies close to the 'safe zone' (far end) so you'll be able to get there fast after killing the last enemy. I for a while here, too and a couple of times I was already running to safe zone when the floor opened up. :-( And try to level up your weapons and magic that you'll need in this area before stepping in. |
I really love this game and the fact that my wife sits with me just watching the game is priceless. She used to complain when I spend more than enough time playing but with this game she encourage me to keep playing. ;-) She said it is like watching a movie with sex, blood, gore, vengeance, great action, and a great storyline.
I love the part when Kratos Spoiler:
I played last night and was kinda stuck in Spoiler:
I never played a game that I really like for a long time. The last one was Prince of Persia. |
Will this friggin' game go on sale already? I want to get it but don't pay full price under any circumstances. Is it on sale anywhere this week?

It's only been out for two weeks. If it was ever on sale it would have been the first week. I got it at Wal-Mart for $48.88. I guess that is on sale. The savings of a dollar. |
I got a $10 GC for CC when I bought it at CC the week it came out. I doubt it will drop in price for another few months.
|
I'm not talking about a price drop. Fry's has Doom 3 for $36.99 this week. I picked up SC : CT last week for that price also. I'm sure someone will have this igame on sale somewhere in the next few weeks, so I'm going to be patient. It's bloody hard, though.
