I think he meant 'illegal aliens' because 'they' are all the 'rage' now.

But this is great news. It will only be down about 1/2 a day and we then hopefully get some great new features on XBox Live.

I took it as a play on Y2K's remark .. Haven't you seen that movie "A Day without a Mexican" ?

A Day Without a Mexican was an awesome flick. I also wondered if his joke was a reference to the planned strike for today (which i need to see if anything happened in regards to that).

On a sidenote does anyone know if you can unlock achievements without access to Live? I would hate to work through the Mage guild and not get the achievements.

Sure, why not. The results are stored on your profile, then next time you connect to live it will update. How else would the people who rarely connect update the gamertags

I read they are doing a major upgrade. For that amount of time I suspect that is what it is.

I heard it was only so they could get ready for E3, no major update.

I've heard rumored background downloading. There's supposed to be a HUGE amount of changes -- including behind the scenes as MS increases bandwidth etc.

But... why focus E3 on people already owning 360s? Kind of like preaching to the choir, eh?

How sweet would it be if they snuck Street Fighter into the arcade while they were setting up all that E3 stuff? After watching that video in the other thread, I just can't wait any longer. I have the patience of a six year old right now.

so you can download something while doing something else (playing a game, watching movie, listening to music, etc.)

I tried to go to Xbox.com and it's also part of the maintenance. I get this message:

Xbox.com and the Xbox Live® service are currently down for maintenance.
We’ll be back soon with amazing new My Xbox® features!

Sounds good.

Yep. It would be a godsend for those of us stuck with 768kbps DSL who want to download 800MB demos.

It is back up. Xbox. com sure has changed a bit when you are in your gamer profile.

There are new links for Recent Players which lets you see info about people you played with recently.

And one feature that has been missing and I had hoped that would be with the update allowing you to add/remove friends from your friends list through xbox.com

You can now send and receive messages to people on your friends list via xbox.com
If they are on the 360, I think they get the message there and can reply back to you and it will show up on the xbox.com website.

Nice

Nice
Couldn't we do that before? I know I trimmed some people from my list recently from the site.
