I did a battlemage type build the first time using armor and it was fine. However, I found I tended to whack the hell out of everything (especially after I had enchanted my own sword) and used spells mainly for healing and distance attacks.
Second time up I did a pure mage and didn't get all the way through. Bored. Don't get me wrong, it was fun to play but not as a repeat.
Honestly, the battlemage was more fun. I like whacking things.

Correct. When you get bitten by a vampire, you get the disease Poryphyric Hemophilia. You can see it listed on the stat page that shows your diseases if you are not sure you have it. Once you have Poryphyric Hemophilia, you have 3 in-game days to cure it before you turn into a vampire. It can be cured by praying at a temple or using a potion or magic that cures disease. I have been bitten by dozens of vampires and never had a problem getting rid of the disease before being turned.
The separate quest to cure vampirism is only required if you wait longer than 3 days and turn into a full-fledged vampire. Praying and magic won't cure you then, so you have to go on a quest to find a cure.

Add shoes, hood, shackles and you can enchant five items IIRC for extra protection, more magic, feather... whatever.

I wear heavy armor and it only knocks my spell casting down to 95%
The journal is a billion times better than in Morrowind. Makes me glad I bought oblivion instead of installing Morrowind on my new computer and trying to pick up where I left off by copying the saved games over

the necrophilia conversation was funny

Just starting this game
Everyone just stood and stared at the pretty water when they first went out into the open?
I'll be reading the manual tonight and learning how to control the game. I'm at the point where you just come out of the sewer.

After this thread I don't want to play the game anymore
I already spend too much time with Fieldrunners, and this one I can't take to work

Make sure you save your game just before you leave the sewer. You will then have a chance to go back and select a different class if you want to later without having to play through the sewer level again.

Well, you can always start over, and if you know what you're doing, you can blast through the sewer in under 10 minutes, and since the game is so non-linear, you can do things however you want after that.

It's a 100+ hour game and the sewers take an hour at most, if you do them slowly and cautiously. It's not that big a deal to replay them.

All Oblivion DLC is half price with one exception...

Pretty funny about the horse armor

Bethesda Softworks is celebrating April Fools' Day and the 3 year anniversary of the first Elder Scrolls: Oblivion downloadable content: the Horse Armor Pack. Instead of the usual 200 Microsoft Points ($2.50), which stirred up some controversy for DLC pricing, the Horse Armor Pack will 400 Microsoft Points ($5).
Here's what Bethesda Softworks had to say on it:
"In celebration of the arrival of April, the wackiness of April Fool’s Day, and the upcoming 3rd anniversary of the release of Horse Armor (Friday, April 3), we are pleased to announce that for the next week all Oblivion DLC for Xbox 360 is half price, except for Horse Armor, which is twice as much as usual. So if you’ve been waiting for just the right moment to get The Vile Lair, or Knights of the Nine, or Shivering Isles, now is the time."

Re: Elder Scrolls Oblivion Thread: Part 2
So I am just starting up Oblivion.
I am wondering if I picked the wrong class/sign/race combo?
I started a redguard, and picked the warrior sign, but then I picked assassin (Because the guard said I was good at it), i had been sneaking around alot and making many sneak kills. So have I messed up? I can go back and change this stuff..should I change it to the thief and keep assasin?

You want to make choices that complement each other. The guard only told you about being an assassin based on your gameplay style.
In Bethesda RPGs, I always go for thief first.

My issue right now is I am trying to get through the guilds. I finished fighters and thieves. When finishing one of the thieves quests I killed a mage and that got me suspended from the Mage's guild. Now they want 20 Daedra Hearts and 20 Vampire dusts to let me back in. I have no clue where to find this stuff. There have to be caves somewhere with these creatures I guess.

Feather.
Enchant some equipment with the Feather effect or make some Feather potions then just run everything back to a town and sell it.

Don't steal cups, etc. Look at the value:weight ratio on your items. Scrolls, potions, spices, etc. will do really well. Heavy armor won't, at least not in the beginning.

Go to Rockmilk Cave. It's right above Leyawiin-ish. You can keep going back every so often and it will reload with better weapons & armor & such. I believe in the lower levels there are Black Bow Bandits, and they fetch a decent price for their armor and bows. plan on making several trips back & forth from there to Imperial to unload the stuff because there's no way in Hell you'll be able to get everything out in 1 or 2 hauls.

Fort Blueblood near Leyawiin (to the SE) is also good. And I think the seller in Leyawiin is decent.

Man, I'm hankering to play this game again. Unfortunately, I got the red ring of death a few weeks back and lost my save files. I had such a strong character and had advanced so far - I don't know if I have it in me to start all over again. The Oblivion Gates especially. God damnit I hated those things.

Re: Elder Scrolls Oblivion Thread: Part 2
I really like that your character can go so many ways in this game. I have a buddy at work who basically made a tank with heavy armor and a big sword. He describes looking badass and lumbering around whacking stuff.
My guy wears a defense robe and ring and carries a dagger. I conjure a storm atronarch to do most of my fighting while I constantly regenerate health (lord). My Magica, Intelligence and Willpower are through the roof, so I can do this all day. My dude doesn't look terribly intimidating, but I'd hate to have to kill him.
I never would have given this a try if not for Fallout 3, but I'm glad I did! (F3 is still better though)

If you can sneak up to them and take them out in one hit, you should be fine. Best bet would probably be to wait till they go to sleep. That'll give you the best chance to kill them before they start screaming for the guards.
