Do they offer email support? Might be worth a shot if they do.

Wow, that's sweet...I was about to spend $60 on it since I got mine at GameRush also. I'll save myself $20 when I get home.....does anyone have a direct link for the lazy :)

ChrisHicks 11-23-05 07:46 AM

stupid question here - I use AT&T Callvantage which uses a version of a D-Link router. I have it installed in my living room. I also have my laptop in the same room. I want to setup my 360 for online access but really don't want to mess with adding an additional router to the setup. could I use something like a desktop switch instead?

something like this:

http://www.dlink.com/products/?model=DSS-5%2B

I could just unplug my laptop from the AT&T router when I want to go online with the 360 but I think it would eventually become a pain.

Which email address are you using? The one when you entetered in your live account on the original xbox?

I found out that I had to use the MSN Passport email address and password that I linked to my gamertag. When I did that, it found my account and converted it to a Gold Account.

Sorry, but I am looking at the included extended warranty information, and it says it is $59.90 for 2 years. It also makes no mention about being able to do it online, and you only have 10 days from the date of purchase to mail in your request.

I dug around the website some, and couldn't find any information about signing up for the warranty, so it sounds like you can do it by mail only.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

edit: This is the only thing I found for the Xbox360 regarding the warranty...

Microsoft losing an estimated $126 per 360 sold:

Warranty, Best Buy Online, etc.

One thing I noticed in the warranty info (which may or may not apply to you):

They don't cover "Acts of God" events, such as power surges. That may not be an issue to most, but a lightning strike took out my online capability on my first X-Box. I wasn't under warranty, but they wouldn't have covered it anyway.

Beyond the system simply breaking down, these types of events are probably the most common way for your 360 to go down. I'm thinking I will get the coverage anyway, but if an "Act of God" does take down my X360, I certainly won't tell them on the phone when I call in to schedule a replacement/repair ;)

In a completely unrelated note, I was wondering how all you BB preorder people did in terms of getting your system? I got mine on the 22nd, End of Day. Initially, I was rescheduled to get it on the 23rd, but UPS came through. Still waiting on the controller (which was rescheduled a few minutes ago to for a 25th delivery), but I hope it still gets here today.

Finally, don't move the system from an horizontal to vertical position while playing a game just to show how cool it is. Discs don't like that....:)

Actually it is more then that by quite a bit, the $126 is befure assembly, packaging, and shipping.

Also worth noting is that this is an estimate, so could be higher or lower. I wonder if the 360 will be another 4 billion dollar loss like the orginal xbox for MS.

Haven't read the article yet, but if they left that out, I wonder if they calculated the advertising costs?

Advertising costs would be considered seperately as it is not a direct cost to the unit.

When I read news stories about Microsoft losing money on every 360 sale, I always say to myself: "That poor multi-billion dollar company." I'll be picking up a 360 sometime next year, but I always find it funny reading stuff like that because it makes them out to be some small company that can't seem to catch a break.

I don't think anyone is concerned about their financial health, rather we are concerned with where the money came from in the first place...

Blade 11-23-05 05:02 PM

3 million systems comes out to a $378 million loss. If it doesn't take off, that's going to hurt...and that's just what they say they're going to manufacture and put out by the end of the year which is just over a month away.

I'm not saying I feel sorry for them, but it is a risk. Mostly I just find it interesting simply in terms of whether they'll be able to make a profit.

belboz 11-23-05 05:27 PM

I've never seen an actual report from iSuppli, but I don't think MS is sharing with them any details about any of the licensing or royalty costs they may be paying.

Commodity parts prices are probably very accurate, but the CPU and GPU price estimates are probably based simply on estimated cost of producing a chip of that size and complexity and not on the particular deal that MS has with IBM and ATI.

when will see a restock of xbox 360's? I hear by Feb

Michael Corvin 11-23-05 08:49 PM

I say the shelves will be stocked on Friday. No way is MS completely ignorant of the busiest shopping day of the year. I bet Tuesday was just enough to create buzz, get in the news about "selling out in minutes," "toy of the holiday season" type pieces. Just enough to make every parent look for one this weekend.

We will see soon enough.

DthRdrX 11-23-05 10:20 PM

There sure is a lot of talk around the net from Best Buy employee's saying they are getting more on Friday. Good luck braving the Black Friday crazies though .... -wink-

Gizmo 11-23-05 10:35 PM

For a 360 I will. I might get hookedup at a Game Crazy since some pre-orders didn't pick theres up...nice.

Dragon Fly 11-24-05 12:30 AM

Yay, figured out my Live issues. Man that chat room feature is awsome!

That's more or less my guess as well. I think MS is finessing this launch and so far it seems to be paying off. I'm guessing that in a week or two, they won't be too hard to get.

ELKTON, Maryland (AP) -- A melee erupted among a crowd of shoppers in the rush for the new Xbox 360 video game console at a Wal-Mart Supercenter in northeast Maryland.

It took 10 police officers to restore order.

A crowd of about 300 people waited as much as 12 hours for the game, considered a must-have item this holiday season, to go on sale at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday. But an announcement from a store manager that the Xboxes would be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, instead of using a number system devised by customers, triggered the mayhem.

"That's when all hell broke loose," said Ben DiSabatino IV, a 23-year-old Bear, Delaware, resident, who had been waiting in line since 4 p.m.

Some customers were knocked down and trampled, though there were no serious injuries, said Elkton Police Lt. Lawrence Waldridge.

Wal-Mart canceled the sale and police ordered everyone to leave.

Haha, reminds me of a scolding parent calling for time out. That whole situation is just sad, in a pathetic sort of way.

No doubt the customers who were the first in line. ;)

I will never understand why people assume anything that happens outside a store with no supervision of employees will mean a thing when the doors open. The store will sell them regardless, a line of people outside is proof of that.

I'm always glad when I hear that. Serves them right. We are talking about grown people acting like third graders at recess.

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/ho...ty-xbox360.htm

I called Microsoft today regarding the extended warranty. I mentioned to the CSR that I had read the Xbox 360 came with the warranty card, and that it said you had to mail it out 10 days from the date of purchase. I explained my situation: the system is already purchased, but wrapped and hidden away until Christmas. So I asked if it would still be possible to get the extended warranty after the 10 days from purchase. The CSR said that the system comes with a 90 day limited warranty, and that I'd still be able to purchase the extended warranty at the end of that 90 day period, and that I could just ignore the whole 10 day thing. I'm somewhat comforted by the fact that I'll still be able to get the extended warranty, but now I wonder why they even said the 10-day-thing if they didn't really mean it.
