That being said I am curious to see how this game turns out. Was From Russia with Love EA?? I thought it stunk. |

That being said I am curious to see how this game turns out. the difference between nintendo is that they milk a few series but make a ton of other games the bulk of EA's business is remaking games they've made multiple times before, oh so I can set the cost of a hotdog in my stadium now..........who fucking cares. If they want to add things to thier games like this that's cool with me but when it comes down to it, they're adding shit at the cost of the core gameplay which you would think they'd have perfected by now. I'll beat up on any company that does this....989 studios anyone?? lets just buy the rights to all the cool games and then turn them into shit. :D |

Concluding... I was in the camp of skeptics at the announcing of this title. I had never seen the film and was not the biggest EA fan. However, after playing this game I must say I’ve come away impressed. It has its flaws: inconsistent AI, lack of fast transit, and lack of in-game character customization, but at the core this is a very good game. The license is used beautifully. I’ll go as far as to say that this is the best implementation of a movie license to date. The gameplay is solid and the content and replay is huge. Overall, the pros outweigh the cons here, and this is a game that any Godfather, GTA, or hardcore gamer should check out. 8.3 |

Unfortunately, they might make another one. I heard there was gonna be a book out (unless its already out). Im sure they will try to revive the story. |

In the back of the strategy guide for the game, there's an ad for a book by some random dude, using the Godfather characters. To me, that seems way worse than a video game based on the movies, especially since everything I've heard points to the game being well done.
|
I hear The Godfather Returns (the aformentioned book) actually turned out pretty well.
|
I couldn't finish the new book (The Godfather Returns). Since continuity wise it takes place in between the movies, you know how it ends. Besides. the story itself was boring. But I definitely am going to buy the new game. I thoroughly enjoyed the other Xbox game "Mafia" and while playing it, I thought it would be really cool if they would of used th e"Godfather" characters. Three years later, lo and behold.

IGN - 7.9
http://xbox.ign.com/articles/696/696740p1.html 8.0 Presentation You'll find an enormous amount of info in the well-designed menus. The opening scenes are some of the game's best, but it careens downhill from there. 7.0 Graphics Like the Bond games, EA's artists did an excellent job on a few of the key actors' faces. The cities are bland, repetitive and often hard to navigate. 7.0 Sound The Godfather theme song works beautifully. It's just good. The added music is very canned and sounds a little like Bond music. The major stars' voice-acting is top-notch, from Brando on down. 8.0 Gameplay The engaging "Respect" system and RPG-light elements are great. The working mechanics have trouble spots and the take-over business is addicting as hell. 9.0 Lasting Appeal This offline, single-player game took me 30 hours to beat, and I hadn't taken over the whole city. Easily a 40-50 hour game. 7.9 Good OVERALL (out of 10 / not an average) http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/action/...l?page=1&q=&q= The game looks slightly better on the Xbox than the PlayStation 2, but the PC version looks the best thanks to some higher resolution textures. The controls are best suited to the dual analog control scheme, and using the mouse and keyboard on the PC is awkward at best. The PC version does support USB gamepads, which is a big improvement over the standard control scheme. Aside from the controls, the PC version has a slightly less steady frame rate than the console versions, but all the versions do suffer from occasional choppiness. With the sheer number of businesses to extort and missions to complete, you can easily spend 20 hours working your way up through the ranks and eliminating other families before finally becoming the Don of New York City. You can unlock bonus clips from the movie by collecting 100 film reels that are scattered throughout the city, so there's definitely plenty to do in The Godfather. If you're a fan of the film, you'll appreciate the way the game pays tribute to the movie. Even if you've never seen the film, the satisfying combat and challenging missions make this game worth playing. |
I'll be picking up the PC version and guide tomorrow at Best Buy for about $3 after $50 worth of RZ certificates
Also picking up Elder Scrolls IV for $39.99 after a coupon at EB :D So about $45 for 2 games and a guide. Might even spend an extra $10 on the ES IV guide as well. Good thing I work two jobs  |

Yeah, it's an imitator.

From their website : The Godfather film from Paramount Pictures featured some of Hollywood's finest actors, and several are contributing to the game's development. All character likenesses from the movie will be included, and lending their voices to add a dramatic and cinematic touch to the game are the late Marlon Brando as Don Vito Corleone, James Caan as Sonny Corleone and Robert Duvall as consigliere Tom Hagen. |
They may have used when Brando's voice when possible, but switched to an imitator when necessary. I looked through the game's manual and found no voice acting credits.

This game is amazingly violent. I love it. The executions are brutal. I'm only about 6% through right now, but I'm really liking it. The driving needs a little work, but you don't do much of it anyway.
My rap sheet is constantly growing. I'm suspected in about 30 murders already ;) = J |
Too bad there are so many comments about the "integrity" of the game and hardly any on the actual game itself--because the game ROCKS.
The non-linear gameplay is very cool, and I love finding new businesses to "protect." The fighting controls are a little hard to get used to at first, but the graphics are pretty darn good (PS2) and the whole concept is incredibly well executed (pun intended). It's cool creating your own guy and I'm starting to work my way up the ranks of The Family. I highly recommend it... |
I have read that the Godfather game is very faithful to the movies, but I read something in a review that has me puzzled.
Spoiler:
|
@kgrogers1979, Endgame spoiler, but it's not really a big deal.
Spoiler:
I would give the game a 6/10. +Godfather content +The fighting, shooting and execution elements +Extortion/Rackets setup, in concept -Graphics are horrible, with the exception of character models -Cars, driving and world design are very unrealistic. -Extortion/Rackets, in practice -Too few story missions Technical issues aside, my main gameplay issue is that it seems like they did a rush job to put this game in a GTA-like world. For example, the individual businesses are fun to extort the first time, but they cut and pasted identical businesses around the city in order to fill up the map. So you extort the same baker 6-8 times, the same hotel 6-8 times, etc. It gets very repetitive. |
