MLB:The Show or MLB 2k6, Which one will you get?

New games for a new season. This year it's MLB:The Show '06 and 2k's Major League Baseball. Both will be priced at 39.99 retail. Last year the luxury of picking up 2k for 19.99 was nice. I'm not sure what to go with this year. I'm leaning towards the Show. 2k dropped the ESPN license, but does anyone know if Morgan and Miller will remain commentating on 2k6?

I'm getting 2K6 because I have a 360. I may check out MLB on the PSP also though...we'll see since sports don't seem to port well to the PSP.

I disagree with that last statement. Well the EA offering of Madden and NBA live were weak. I think EA did hit it on the head FN3. I found NBA2K6 to be pretty good. So I just don't think you can stick that statement to the hardware.

If they're anything like previous years, the 2K game is the one to go with. Ever since they changed to the World Series title they've had the best (in my opinion at least) MLB games. I've never been impressed with Sony's offerings. Maybe if EA was still able to make it would be worth picking up since they were getting better the past few years, but that's what they get for being whores and signing the NFL. I will never forgive them for that...

Well, there is no NBA2K6 for PSP. Madden was pisspoor and NBA Live 06 was not that good. I just realized that MLB 2K6 will be on the PSP also...interesting.

I hope 2KGames does a good job with the MLB game. I keep noticing glitches in MOST of the sports games lately (NHL 2K6 for 360 has a bug where you cannot advance your franchise). NBA is the BEST though. I really enjoyed MVP baseball last year....here's hoping the 360 version is GREAT.

DJ_L, I think he was referring to the fact that you said: "we'll see since sports don't seem to port well to the 360." Did you mean PSP?

My mistake...fixed. Yeah, I like my sports on the 360. The PSP is the lacking system...IMO.

I'm getting 2K6 since somehow its getting a GameCube release. I might get it for the PSP instead if they do a good version of it. I'm hoping that College Hoops somehow gets a PSP release as well and they can do a decent version on the PSP.

I'm getting the Show. I hope they fixed the freeze bug from last year. I'd normally get 2k6, but since I don't have an Xbox anymore or a hdd for my PS2, the flashback replays aren't as cool as they could be.

I'll probably get Show '06 for PSP. I read a review and it sounds pretty cool. Online features are impressive: Online play, weekly roster updates, live scores and most impressive, real player stats affect their play during the season so if A-Rod or any other player starts slumping, his ability in the game will reflect that. I played the demo at CES and it was pretty good looking.

Man, I didn't realize it had features like that. I'm really not sure now which one I want. I'll wait till I can try them both on the PSP.

How did Sony end up getting the MLB license? I thought 2k Sports had it exclusively? Did they sell it to Sony?

NM: Answered my own question. Exclusive MLB rights were only for 3rd party licensees.

I guess the Show ended up getting an 8.0 from IGN.

Gamespot gave it a 8.6. I was going to wait and see how 2K6 ended up, but considering MLB has had a year to work out its problems and 2K6 will be a first time PSP title I think MLB will be the one to go with.

Hey Everyone..

I'm new to the Sony brand of baseball games since i was an EA Sports MVP fan, can anyone explain how the eyetoy thing works with this game and the PS2?

also, i've only played 1 game with a friend, but at times my pitcher would just pitch on his own without me pressing any buttons, the hot cold zone would blink in red and then my pitcher would just throw a pitch, why is it doing that?

also at one point a small red square appeared in the hot cold zone that would let the batter know the location of my pitch, again, i'm not sure why this happens at random...

for the most part i like the game, the graphics are great, but these unexplainable instances really could mess up a game..any help from someone who's played this series before would be greatly appreciated..

Can't comment on the PS2 version, but I played a couple of games on the PSP and its really good. This is the kind of sports game I have wanted to see on the PSP for awhile. Finally a quality portable sports game that doesn't have a ton of features cut out from the console or suffer from the PSP controls. The season mode is missing a few features, but you can play multiple seasons so I can do with out some of the missing GM stuff I usually don't do anyway.

Gameplay is rock solid, the play by play is really very convincing and the computer AI is pretty decent. Definitely worth my $40. Now if only someone could do a quality version of basketball on the PSP.

Thanks for the info, darkside. Glad you like it. I'm probably spending too much right now, but if Fry's has it for $29.99 I still might pick it up (but I've got to get both Daxter and KH 2 this month so I can't make many impulse buys).
Those online features I mentioned above about roster updates and real-time player performances : that was taken from an early review of the PSP game, but I haven't seen any mention of in on IGN or Gamespot. In fact, Gamespot complained about the inability to update your roster. It's not mentioned on their website either. Is there anything in the manual about that? Have you tried an online roster update yet?

Just tried it out. It has online play, online roster updates and online MLB news (you can choose specific news for your favorite teams) and online score ticker. It gives a brief listing of the major roster changes. You do have to save the roster after going offline. The news can be downloaded and read later. They also have a drawing for players that play online.

MLB '06 isn't bad so far, I've got it for another week or two from blockbuster. One gripe I have is that the schedule is not correct for the White Sox. They open on the 2nd, not the 3rd.

I may pick up MLB06 for the PSP, seems pretty favorable...I may wait though, don't play it enough to justify it. I still hope 2K6 turns out GOOD on the 360.

How does 2K on the regular XBox look/compare to The Show on PS2? I don't have a 360 yet or a PSP.

In my opinion, the xbox version of 2k6 looks much better that MLB 06: The Show. However, the only thing I have to compare is the screenshots of 2k6 because it doesn't come out until the 20th or so of this month. I'll probably rent 2k6 for Xbox when it comes out and then I'm definately buying the 360 version.
