I also suck at this game. Feel free to add me to your friends list....tag is below.

Add me too, since I'll have the game in an hour or two:

I'll be online tonight playing PGR3 look me up I'm game

Brent L 01-07-06 02:57 PM

I just got back with the game, so I'll try it out for a little while here pretty soon. :)

My advice... find me online and race me. You'll win everytime, because I suck.

Brent L 01-07-06 10:15 PM

Whoa man, playing this game with my Lost In Translation soundtrack playing over it is like drugs to me this evening. I also put the song from that Wonderful Days music video on there, and it fit it perfectly to me.

There is something that I just haven't picked up on yet, because I suck beyond words. I haven't even went online yet because I know I'd just get destroyed. I will pretty soon though, since that's one of the main reasons I bought this game.

Gromit 01-07-06 11:20 PM

I suck at PGR3 and I'm pretty much ready to give up on the single player mode. Not so much becuase I suck (it's easy on novice or whatever the 2nd level is) but becuase I just don't see a point to having access to all of the best cars when you really only need one or two to win, at least at this level.

Anyway, I'm hoping online is the saving grace for this game but I have no interest in playing online with people who don't understand the meaning of 'recreational zone'. So I'd be game for casual racing against other newbies. Gamertag is 'Gromit'.

I must really suck at this game. I'm going through it, and I tried on novice and easy and did fine, but as soon as I went up to medium, I can't do anything at all. I'm trying to to the thing where you need to pass five different cars in a race (HorseGuards Championship), and I can't even get up to three hardly, and have only passed four once. I don't get this at all, I really don't.

What am I not getting?

EDIT:

Well, after trying for at least fifty times, I finally did it. I still think that there is something that I'm not getting, but whatever. At least I feel a sense of accomplishment, however small it may be.

Sounds similar to my experience with the game. Novice was easy for me, Easy was a challenge but I could make steady progress (though the last 4 championships were significantly tougher). I'm working my way through Medium for Silver medals. A bit more challenging, progress is slower, and have hit the first of those last 4 championships... AI drivers race dirty!

I've noticed that in races with AI drivers (street races, one-on-one, passing challenges) they use vehicles in the same class as the car you chose. You want to make sure that you've got the car in that class that best fits the track. For a track with few long straight-aways and lots of turns, I've found that a car that I can ebrake slide and brake feint with control on offers a real advantage. Tracks with long straight-aways, I've found that cars with a high top speed
really help.

Also, the AI drivers definitely change their driving styles depending upon where YOU are. It is important to get an early jump and quickly pass the first few cars ASAP. Once you do, the AI cars leading the pack seem easier to pass.

I think that you'll find that the AI drivers' aggressiveness and control are significantly more challenging at the Medium level. The good news is, as you work your way through Medium, your skills definitely improve. I've notice an improvement on my online driving as a result.

I used to finish dead last...every time. And ended up timing out on more than half those races. Now, as long as some dipwad doesn't go slam city spinball on me (deliberately sideswiping to spin me out) I am finishing 4th and 5th (out of 8) consistently... and with a lot more control.

I've found that the Ultima GTR is a great all-round vehicle in the class. Sure it doesn't have the shear horsepower of the Enzo Ferrari, but then again, I don't go slamming fullspeed into a wall either.

Last night my lone GTR raced against 7 Enzos. I avoided the first turn carnage and danced around those slammers and finished 3rd. Very exciting!

I did some racing online in the class D level, and I was using the TVR (best performance in class D) and I was racing the New York bridge course. Now the TVR I believe has pretty much full bars minus 3 in everything. On the bridge a Saleen would consistently catch me from behind (sometime slamming into me at the turn). Now the TVR has all fuller bars than the Mustang, why does he go faster. The TVR has 400 HP and the Saleen has 500. Does this mean the bars aren't an even comparison between cars?

I know some will say it is my driving, but I came off the turn clean, he hit the wall. I was steadily accellerating across the bridge and he would catch me.

Also I got my first 2 (3) wins online last night. I had 2 in a row (my first 2) but after the second race I went to my dashboard to see who was on and my system froze, so I had to reboot and lost the race. The moral is make sure you are completly out before going to dashboard. It also happened before a race, I went to look at a gamer card and was backing out, and the game froze. Has anybody else had this happen?

Green Smurf 01-08-06 01:00 PM

That happens to me alot during the game when I do that. I always wait until I'm done with whatever I am doing then I check out a gamer card, since you can always look at who you just raced.

The Bus 01-08-06 02:57 PM

Yeah, do NOT use the "X" button on PGR3. The game will completely freeze up. You can use the right shoulder button to activate names over cars, and then just remember the name for feedback later. I hand out negative feedback often to anyone who sings during a race (???) or is ramming people senselessly (these are usually people in last place).

For anyone not "getting" the first-player mode of the game, keep this in mind: On the average course, you should only be using the accelerator about half to two-thirds of the time. If you're pinballing off all the walls, you need to change your style of driving. Being a huge arcade racer fan this always bothered me but I am slowly getting the hang of it.

I think a lof of the very good players used to play the other PGR games as well as Metropolis Street Racer (for the DC, horrible music!).

rocketsauce 01-08-06 03:42 PM

ya i think im slowly but surely getting the hang of it, Ill be on tonight sometime (depends on football) hope to see people on.

Well, I guess it is good to know it is not only me crashing, but is this something that can be fixed via some online patch? I did not know about the 'RB' showing names, that would help telling apart the 5 GT50's I am racing against.

I am getting used to the analog throttle. I started and either has the gas "floored" or completly off, not I am getting the hang of feathering the throttle.

I just noticed that concept earlier today, and it's really helping.

If you want to know how to do it properly, use the "Ghost" feature to watch replays of better players. Then at least you'll know what you're supposed to look like.

Also, make sure you use the best car in a given class. The computer seems to just use random cars from the same class, so if you have the best one you have a leg up.

DJ_Longfellow 01-09-06 06:33 AM

Well, I'm getting a bit better. I'm going through my solo career getting EASY medals. I did get a few silver for some things though. The game is getting better. I really like streaming my music with this game also....excellent. I'm still not great, but hopefully getting better. Time to go online again

Green Smurf 01-09-06 09:14 AM

I'm going through the game right now trying to easy and medium. I started doing the feathering a while ago, I don't bounce off nearly as much, just this one turn in NY that I just can't do.

The last race was the easiest for me believe it or not. I was able to get like 4,500 kudos on it. I'm so close to rank 5.
