Arcade Game Challenge #53: Love in an Elevator

In these threads we play arcade games that are emulated on PCs, and compete for the highest score.
You have to take care of finding the games yourself.
Click here for the list of all the past winners and high scores.

The Rules:
  1. To enter, you just play one of the games and post a screenshot with your score.
  2. Once all the games have a score, the deadline to post any new scores will be 72 hours after the last screenshot is posted.
  3. The winner doesn't get anything. I will pick all the games.
  4. Any games should be played with one credit and no continues or any features not on the actual machine.
  5. If you play and beat any of the high scores from the previous games we've played, you can submit them for the All Time Top Scores.

Nice when you don't have to update the trophy huh?

Can't believe that Strider score held up.

I tried beating the giant steel gorilla enough times. I didn't really like Strider, and I like the batch of games we have for this one. I don't know Zed Blade, but it looks like a pretty basic two button shoot em up.

Well, you lucked out that I was out on a business type trip with the wife since last Wednesday...

But it's funny that you have been picking games that I used to been able to play for long stretches in the arcade days. Thanks man!

Figured it was something like that. I wanted to ask though, did you have a method for passing the "ski jump w/ bombs" area on Strider? The only way I could do it was to walk off the ledge (so he would grab to the side), then climb up so I was barely standing on the top and jump from there. Seemed like a really lame way to do it.

I also wussed out and played for score. I used a full minute and a half killing wolves at 50 pts a pop so I could get close to your score. I knew I wouldn't be able to get any points in the air part.

You mean you didn't just run down the hill at full speed and jump when you got to the bottom? that always worked for me

Were you jumping down the hill or running? When I tried it running I was getting hit by the bombs I think. I was jumping but it was impossible that way too, because when you jumped off the lip you'd get hit by one of the explosions. I had to create a saved state and tried it a ton of times before I found something that worked. I would jump off the lip and land on the bottom ledge and then immediately jump to the left and hang under the lip before pulling myself up. I'm gonna feel really stupid if all you had to do was run and never jump.

I'm going to have to go try it again. I"ve done it a ton of times, and I'm pretty sure you just run and then jump at the end. I didn't even know you could die here.

*edit
Yup, just did it again on the first try. You just run and jump.

Not much time to snap a screenshot... and it doesn't show the high score on even the demo. So this is the best you get.

Yeah, for some reason even when the end screen is up the score disappears...

Hmm... I thought I posted this earlier...

Wow, to get that score on Elevator Action by that level you must have milked every screen for as long as you could.

Yes, I'm not ashamed to admit it, I milked each screen as much as I could. This game still have a time limit. But, no points are awarded for time bonus, so you might as well kill everything within the allotted time.

By your comment, am I to assume that you actually got further than me, but did not score as high?

We don't have a rule against "point leeching", but it can make it kind of boring.

Here's what MARP says about it in their rules:
"Point or life leeching is strongly discouraged, and banned on some games, as described in the banned techniques list, or in the specific game's special rules. You cannot continuously gain points without some degree of risk and you must keep moving to complete a level."

That being said, if you look at the scores for Elevator Action 2 and Elevator Action Returns, one of the players gets complaints for leeching, but it was obviously allowed for that game.

I'm not sure how far I made it, and my screenshot doesn't help much, but I do remember making it a ways past that part. The problem with this game is that it is pretty easy, and I'm sure with minimal effort we could all beat the whole thing. So at that point it'll come down to leeching anyway...

Actually, I am somewhat offended by the accusation/comment about "leeching". I admitted to milking each screen for its worth. By this, I am talking about actually taking the time to destroy everything, picking up anything that are worth points, and aiming my shots to score double points for each kill [For those that doesn't know yet, if you manage to kill a bad guy by ANY MEANS other than shooting them with bullets, you score double points.] In other words, I made the efforts to maximize my score in each and every area. What I didn't bother doing was idly waiting by a door and kill critters as they come out. Now, something like that would clearly be "leeching".

Well, since it's minimal effort, then please do some "leeching" and beat this score. I finished at 570,800.
