X-Box 360 - Vertical or Horizontal?
So which is it?
Horizontal on top of the first X-box for me. With a media shelf full of horizontal components, vertical just does not look right. |
Same here. I couldn't put it vertical without taking out a shelf.

Where's the option for diagonal?
|
horizontal
|
I keep mine horizontal since that is the only way it will fit in with the other components (DVD player, cable box), but I'd love to have it vertically oriented.
|
I had it vertical, but every time I ended a game, the disk would spin down (but not all the way) and I would hear a low vibration. In horizontal it doesn't do this.
So, I'd say Vertical if I didn't mind the unit vibrating (I'm afraid of the hard drive getting affected down the road). |
Horizontal....only way it fits on component stand.

Is there still a danger if you have it vertical like there was for the PS2?

DO NOT PUT IT VERTICAL.
I had it vertical and it ruined my COD2. Look at joystiq for dozens of stories of scratched discs. It's dangerous! |
I use d-skins on all my games so I don't have to worry about scratches. It only adds about $1 to the cost of a game. Well worth it in my book.

Anytime you put a free spinning disc vertical, you are going to have problems. That is one of the reasons Sony made the PSTwo with a drive that had a center snap.
Also, heat rises. Will the top of the unit have vents if you stand it vertically? |
I'd put it horizontal.
1. Vertical consoles aren't easy to place in a neat HT setup and look like crap if you can IMO. 2. Vertical just seems more risky to me. |
tried both, vertical was a lot noisier, have it horizontal at the moment
|
I don't have one yet but I have read nothing but complaints about damaged discs with regards to vertical placement.
|
I have both of mine horizontal.

I have mine vertical. Luckily my bottom shelf has room for the 360 without having to move any shelves. Also it's not closed off, so it's pretty well ventilated.

Horizontal, and with nothing on top of it.

Mine is vertical, since that is the only way it will fit into my system right now, but it is noisy as hell. I want to figure out a way to lay it down...
