Will $54.99 be the price point for pre-owned Xbox 360 games?

I don't know why it sounds so much steeper to me, but for the new $59.99 games do you think that the pre-owned titles will go for $54.99? I can't imagine myself paying 55 bucks for something used, and I rarely did it when it was $44.99 for new pre-owned Xbox/GC/PS2 titles.

Most of the what I've heard on these boards is that the $20 price point for new games was what people were waiting for on most titles that weren't "must have" games. I would guess we'll be waiting even longer for those kind of price drops until the market supports enough consoles to sell them in bulk. But even on B2G1F sales it would be $110 for three games, and it just seems to add up a lot quicker than the last generation prices. Even if pre-owned games dropped to $49.99 I'd probably have a lot more interest, but as it stands I'm wondering how long we'll be paying $50+ dollars for 360 games.

I'm also wondering if anybody has heard if 1st party MS titles will continue to retail at $49.99 as they did at launch. I couldn't find anything official, and they seem to be earning reviews on par (or sometimes better) than the 3rd party games.

Most likely stores like EB and GameStop will retail their used copies for $5 less than the MSRP. I don't see this policy changing anytime soon.

I also don't see the price drops happening very soon. And even the $20 may become extinct to favor $30 as the new "budget" price.

Everyone raise your hand if you have ever paid $45 for a used game? No? Not me either. That is only at the game shops anyway. Blockbuster, gamefly, ebay & half.com have much more reasonable prices for used stuff.

Hell, $55 nets me a new game at Sam's Club. $55 also nets me a new game at Best Buy with a gamer gift card. So no. Not even once would I consider a used game for $55. Just avoid the game shops and you should be fine saving a little money. Those places are a joke for used stuff.

Fact is, we are two weeks into the systems life span. Most people can't even get a system. Cheap used games won't be had for quite a few months.

Much like when the original XBOX came out, and there weren't very many games, it will take a long time to see any significant 360 game price breaks.

There isn't much pressure to reduce inventory when only 18 games are available.

I already have seen pre-owned 360 titles for $55 at GameRush (however, they have 25% off USED games, so that is nice). I passed on NBA Live and Kameo though.

We still have a ton of Best Buy game coupons, $10 off $29.99 = no 360 game above $49.99 til the end of Jan.

I'll raise my hand on that one. There aren't any Sam's Clubs or Costcos around here, and my Best Buys/Walmarts are usually a week or two behind on new releases. I haven't done it often, but sometimes I can find a new game I'm dying to play a couple days after release date used, and spend about the same as I would at BB with the gamer coupon to have it in hand earlier. I think the EB games of the world are hit and miss, but if you find one with decent associates (understandably huge hit and miss) they've tended to help me out.

And I'm not expecting any drastic sales or price cuts this early in the 360 life span, but I've wanted a lot more games at this launch than I have in the past. I just know if I wait too long picking them up the next batch will come along and I'll be too busy with what's new and shiny then to go back and pick some of the launch titles I'm really interested in now.

Well, it seems like USED 360 are already popping up no EBAY and HALF.com for $40-$45....so you can go that route also.

A $5 difference between old and new isn't worth it to me.

Do you know what the trade-in values are for any 360 games?

Trade in values at GAMERUSH are $35 I believe for all 360 games. Some gave $40, but I think the website says $35. (Not sure if Kameo/PDZ/PGR3 are traing in lower)

God, I miss GameRush. We moved to Idaho and all of the Blockbuster's are independent so not only do they not have a GameRush within 200 miles but they don't participate in any Blockbuster Pre-Owned sales. I'm really needing their old "Trade In 2 Games and Get any Pre-Owned game for $5." I bet that Gamestop and EB are trading them in for around 25/30 or so. I've got a Software Etc. in the nearby mall that's got a trade in any 2 360 games and get any 360 game free. Not much of a deal.

Same here.

I'm also baffled by those that trade in a game for $25* when they could easily get $35* on half.com.

*random values

Well, i always used to trade games in at GameRush, even if I got a few dollars less....since they had GREAT trade-in deals, trade 2 get a game for $30.

However, a few more of my games are going to HALF.com (I know they take a big percentage, but it's easy)

How is trading 2 games for 1 for $30 a deal, if you could sell the game for $25 or $35 on half.com?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but I'm guessing it's "trade 2 at slightly lower than half.com value each, and get the opportuntiy to buy a game at $30" (or in this case perhaps $40 due to the $10 higher MSRP?

360 game prices make a compelling case to sign up for gamefly...

Sorry, the deal was trade 2 games get a pre-order for $30 (PLUS get your trade in value). So, I would get games for free....it was a good deal. It paid for my 360 and 12 360 games along with about 15-20 XBOX/PSP games.

When I traded at Gamerush, the two games could be anything this generation, not necessarily games that would get $20-35 on half.com. I know when I used that deal I traded in games like The Getaway or Metal Gear Solid 2 for PS2. Usually they were the games that were oversaturated already and only traded in for a couple of bucks. Plus you got whatever credit the games were worth toward the $30 preorder.

Edit: Beat to the punch from previous post. But I think I am going to use Gamefly for 360 games as soon as I get through the initial couple I bought.

That makes more sense. I could not see giving 2 games then having to give $30 more for a preorder, but the credit for the 2 and only $30 for a preorder is pretty sweet.

Are they still doing this or anything close?

No, check my GameRush thread for current deals.

(which are $39.99 for any new game...excludes 360 & 25% off USED games)
