The One & Only: Prince Of Persia: The Two Thrones Thread

I know most here loved Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time whereas most also had mixed feeling about Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. It seems that that latest game in the series, Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones, is an attempt to combine the best of those two games and add some new things to the mix. I figured since the release date is so close, we could discuss our expectations here and eventually post reviews.

For now, all I have to offer ar the following links:

Too bad I can't figure out a way to download it to my computer. :(

BTW, has anyone watched the gameplay videos floating around? I find it interesting that, although this game is still M rated and dismemberments are still featured, there seems to be no blood. I guess that's to tone the game down (but not too much) to appease those who prefer TSOT over WW.

RocShemp 11-18-05 03:20 PM

C'mon. I know I'm not the only one interested in this game.

kgrogers1979 11-18-05 04:35 PM

I am interested in the game; I just don't have anything to post about it right now. I am looking forward to the return of Farah too. Hopefully, they won't turn her into a hardcore badass like they did with the Prince.

RocShemp 11-18-05 05:35 PM

I'm looking forward to her return as well. As far as I've seen of her, she's matured (it has been seven years since the events of TSOT, after all) but they didn't do an extreme change on her like they did the Prince. The only other thing I know about her is that the developers have promised she'll help out even more than she did in TSOT.

kgrogers1979 11-18-05 05:37 PM

Speaking of the devil, I just found a video clip with Farah in it. It is the first clip of Farah in The Two Thrones that I have seen.

I don't know how she could help out any less. :D In SoT, she always got in my way more often than not. I don't know how many times she "accidently" shot me with her bow. Also, that long elevator fight would have been much easier if she didn't die so quickly.

It will be interesting to see the interactions between her and the Prince. Since the Prince rewound time in SoT, Farah doesn't remember him at all.

True, but he did drop the bombshell that all he had said was true, because of the last word he told her...

Not quite.
Spoiler:
He stopped the Sands of Time from ever being made after the good ending of WW (from which TTT begins) so she never met him at all and he didn't kill the Vizier.

Farah only died on me a few times and it was cos of that spike glitch after you saved in the Hall of Learning. Hopefully she'll be tougher, though. And a better shot cos she did nail me with those arrows quite a few times.

Cool clip. Interesting how the Dark Prince seems to consider Farah a threat. Too bad they didn't show any in-game footage of her, though. :(

Another thing I noticed from that clip is how the production design of a lot of the levels in this game are very reminicent of those found in TSOT.

In my efforts to find some way to save the song to the hard disk, this is as far as I've got: http://musicplayer.myspace.com/bandp...and=1132332997

Anyone more knowledeable willing to offer some help, I'd be most grateful.

RocShemp, I thought that in another thread, you said you never played WW? Did you just download and watch the ending or something? That would really spoil the game.

Spoiler:
That is interesting about the Vizier technically being still alive. I hadn't thought about that. I wonder if he will show up again in The Two Thrones? I would love to fight him again, especially if they suped him up and made him harder to defeat. Technically, after the end of WW, SoT never happened. The Prince's father should still be alive too.

I just bought it yesterday and am currently loving it. As for the ending, sadly, that was already spoiled for me when this new game was first announced. :( But the game itself is still lots of fun (I even found my first life upgrade already) and I can look passed the fact that good ending was spoiled for me.

Spoiler:
I've been wondering about that myself. It would be cool to fight him again in a proper boss battle. As for King Sharaman, he might still be dead since the Prince has now veered into an alternate timeline. Even though the Sands of Time were not created and the attack on the Maharajah's kingdom never happened, other events surely took place in their stead and they seem to have led to the Prince's home being invaded.

Looking forward to this game and I'll probably purchase given that the reviews are positive.
I liked Sands of Time quite a bit, but I'm skipping Warrior Within. Do you guys think I'd be missing very much plot-wise?

RocShemp 11-20-05 10:50 PM

I at first was going to skip WW but was able to snag it for $8.59 thanks to a trade-in. To be honest, it's worth the $22.99 it currently costs and I believe would have been worth the $52.99 when it was first released. The negative buzz it got was quite exagerated. Despite a few darker changes, it's the same fun adventuring you loved from TSOT just with added challenge.

As for being lost plot-wise, as far as I've read (though I don't know if this has been confirmed), TTT begins with a brief recap of the events of WW in order to set up the plot so far. So I don't think you'll miss anything plot-wise by skipping WW.

It seems to me that Gamestop is just offering the soundtrack, but their description of what is on the soundtrack is just more detailed.

Also, good point about the plot of Warrior Within changing the ending of Sands of Time. I didn't even think about that for some weird reason. Too bad Farah probably won't recognize the Prince now...

Wow. You're right. My bad. Well then, I'll just reserve this at my local EB rather than driving out to the nearest Gamestop. Thanks for the correction.

Yeah, I was initially upset about this but feel it might actually great some great dramatic tension between them. Afterall, their relationship will develop much differently this time: The Prince still seeing Farah as the young princess he grew to love and Farah not understanding how this man is so instantly enamoured with her and looks at her as someone he loves.

I was under the impression that despite the negativity over the tonal change to cater to a younger audience and a few plot and gameplay blemishes there was still enough of what made Sands of Time great to warrant the purchase. I can't remember TOO many people saying it flat out sucked.. It's on my to-buy list now that's it's $20. Personally I feel the tonal change warrants the negativity but as long as the gameplay is still rock-solid a few eye-rolling moments is a small price to pay to enjoy the overall experience.

wmansir 11-22-05 07:56 PM

My problem with WW wasn't the tonal change, though I wasn't really thrilled that, but the complete shift from a platformer/puzzle game with some action elements to an action/fighting platformer with virtually no puzzles.

RocShemp 11-22-05 10:27 PM

Actually there are plenty of puzzles and lots more platforming in WW than there was in TSOT. The only annoying thing is that the combat increased a lot too. But after you get the hang of it, you're quickly dispatching (and forgetting all about) all the enemies once you figure out the right moves for each. This is essentially the same thing that happened during my first playthrough of TSOT except that now I'm not just limited to a handful of moves when dispatching hordes of enemies.

I also like the Dahaka since he forces me to think on the fly when I'm trying to navigate my way through a certain area. I also like how some enemies (like those exploding dogs) are integrated into exploration of certain levels.

You mean Warrior Within, right? The Sands of Time was darn near perfect. Yeah, WW had some tonal/plot/gameplay changes but I found that these were emphasized more often than not in most reviews. Or perhaps such comments stuck out to me. Either way, I'm glad I finally got this game because it's great, in spite of it's flaws.

RocShemp 11-22-05 10:32 PM

Oh yeah, for any gamers here in Puerto Rico, the clerk at my local EB told me not to get my hopes up for the soundtrack because sometimes pre-order items don't actually make it here. That's news to me and I hope it isn't BS to pocket a few copies of the soundtrack or something. I e-mailed EB again just in case.

Yes, what I was saying is that Warrior Within had enough of what made Sands of Time so great to still be a good game.
