Tales of Phantasia GBA US Bound!

HOLY CRAP!!

I've got the import and have beaten it TWICE (it's awesome) but I will be buying this.

I love my GBA.

Reggie Fils-Aimes, Nintendo's Vice President of Sales and Marketing, has announced that Tales of Phantasia will be hitting US shores for the Game Boy Advance. Originally released in December of 1995 for the Super Famicom, Tales of Phantasia was then ported to the GBA in August of 2003 in Japan. The US release of Tales of Phantasia will hit March 6, 2006. Nintendo of Europe has also announced that Phantasia will hit that region on March 31, 2006.

This announcement comes hot on the heels of UbiSoft's announcement of the European release of Tales of Eternia for the PSP. No US release has yet been announced.

All these ports (this, the final fantasy games etc.) are great.

But I really wish they were coming to the DS instead of GBA so they could use the full DS screen, use the top screen for maps/stats etc.

to Pixy, or anyone who has played this: What are the play machanics like for this game? I have only played Symphonia for gamecube, but I can't imagine this will be anything like that.

It's similar.. just imagine the same action based battles but on a 2D plane.

My only complaint is that it's a bit slower paced than Symphonia.. if you've ever played Tales of Destiny it's REALLY similar to that (seeing that the Phantasia remake was BASED off of Destiny's engine). But that's minor, after a few battle you'll get used to it (and it's only really apparent after playing any of the newer Tales games).

I played this on an SNES emulator, but it'll be nice to have it for the GBA/DS. I wonder how the English translation will compare to De-Jap's. I'm guessing lines like "I bet she fucks like a tiger" won't be included.

Yay!

I've sampled the emulated version and always wanted to play a real version (kinda like DQ5&6).

Sold.

Yup, keep in mind that the GBA version is based off the Playstation version which was vastly improved upon from the original Super Famicom one. So if that's all you've seen of the game you'll be in for a bit of a treat.

Heh, not yet. Googling "Tales of Phantasia" doesn't require a job anywhere.

Wow that is great news for you portable lovers! I imported this game a decade ago when it launched and also played the translation numerous times. I cant see it having snes quality in graphics or sound but it make great addition for gba library! I really thought this was a lost cause after all this time.

The GBA has slightly better graphical capabilities than the SNES. At worst it will look the same.

The sound is great as well as long as you use headphones.

Did you see the screenshots above?

The graphics are VASTLY superior to the SNES version and the music is identical.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but I can't really tell from those screenshots which one looks better. The bottom one looks brighter and more colorful, but I can't say that it looks better.

Hmm.. well, it was the best two I could find on Google at work. I can make a direct same-screen comparison if you want. But the big thing to note is that both screens feature the same three characters if you want to make a direct comparison.

Yeah! I've got to support this one so Nintendo will push Tales of the Tempest (DS) for a US release!

That's not bad considering this is a four year old version of an eight year old game.
