Xbox 360: Where Should I Get It?
First off, I realize we already have an official xbox 360 thread, but I did not want to sift through a gizillion pages to find what I am looking for, so I hope my question is good enough for a new thread :D
I did not pre buy a 360 (don't throw your stones) and my friend and I are going to go out on the hunt midnight nov.22 to see where we can snag a couple of premium systems. Since we did not pre order, we're afraid to wait until normal store hours that day. We may be way off on this, but we think there will be major shortages. My question is, who is going to be open at midnight Nov.22nd to sell me one? I know wally world will be, if you go to walmart.com and go to the 360 section you will see a statement refering to walmart stores being open at midnight to sell them, unfortunetly that just refers to super walmarts (my local walmart will not be open) and in my little city thats about the only option....So we will be going up to Rochester, NY.... Does anyone know if Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, Toys R Us, ect ect will be doing the midnight thing? Thanks! |
I know my Best Buy is doing a midnight event. Maybe they all are...
|
Rumor is that Best Buy is getting a much large allotment of 360's than any other store. I'd try there if I were you.
|
Even if you didn't want to sift through the big thread there are a couple others asking the same exact thing.
If I can't snag one at Best Buy, I'm hitting up Sam's club in the AM. I have a business membership and can get in a couple hours earlier than normal members. :) They will only have a bundle though. comes with two wireless controllers, a dvd remote and something else I'm forgetting. |
I believe it's optional for the Best Buys to open at 12 A.M.
I know that my store is.... |
I'm going to hit up Best Buy at Midnight too. I hope I can get one! Also, how early do you guys plan on getting there? Like will getting there at 11:00 pm put me at the end of the line, or right in front? I have no experience of waiting in line for something at midnight. This will be my first.
Oh and thanks for starting a new thread. I too had a difficult time going through all of those pages, and people still didn't answer my question there. |
If I can muster up the cash, I will try to snag one on a midnight opening somewhere. I would probably plan on getting there around dinner time.
|
I was hoping to score one on the release date as well. It all depends on the cash situation. If I do get it, it'll be my Christmas present
BTW, my local TRU has a sign that said it was delayed til the 29th, is this true or just when TRU is getting theirs? |
I feel stupid asking, but what does TRU stand for?
|

I almost want to buy one or two only to flip them on eBay to feed into the scalping frenzy (and make a quick buck). Almost.

There is even a story on Reuters about MS expecting a slow start to the system.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20051028/...rosoft_xbox_dc New Xbox set for slow start By Reed Stevenson Fri Oct 28, 4:15 PM ET SEATTLE (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp.'s (Nasdaq:MSFT - news) new Xbox 360 video game console may get off to a slower start than initially expected, but the software giant's plan to keep production steady and expectations low may help it win against rival Sony Corp. (6758.T), analysts said on Friday. Current-generation Xbox sales have slowed ahead of the launch and Microsoft cautioned that early Xbox 360 sales would not be as high as expected, sparking an initial sell-off in the company's shares. The world's largest software maker, in its quarterly earnings announcement on Thursday, said that it expects revenue in the last three months of 2005 to be $11.9 billion to $12.0 billion, slightly lower than the average analyst revenue forecast of $12.26 billion in the December quarter. The shares have recovered after analysts noted that Microsoft would benefit from avoiding a big sales spike after the November 22 launch. Disgruntled customers were a problem for Sony when it launched its best-selling PlayStation 2 console in 2000. "They want to have more of a constant supply," said Matt Rosoff, analyst at Directions on Microsoft, an independent research firm. "They don't want a huge spike in December and then a slump in January and February," Rosoff said, "They're trying to avoid that." Microsoft's Chief Financial Officer Chris Liddell said there wouldn't be a big initial spike and promised that the software giant would be able to ship between 4.5 and 5.5 million Xbox 360 consoles by the end of the business year to June 2006. For the launch in a month, analysts expect Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft to ship between 1.5 million and 2 million consoles. Microsoft is expected to have another factory producing Xbox 360 consoles in January, which will also increase supply ahead of Sony's spring launch of its next-generation PlayStation 3 console. "It's much more important longer term to get production up and running," said Shawn Milne analyst at Friedman Billings Ramsey. |

If I were you, I'd be heading up to Henrietta's Best Buy. You can't loose. You also have a Circuit City, SAM's Club and Target right there for back up. Not to mention the mall. I think you'll be fine.

General Rule is that for system launches, Best Buy is the best place to go if you don't have a reservation. They always get the most. They'll probably have some left over the next day even if you don't go at midnight and want to sleep in.

Well my fellow western NYer, that was EXACTLY what my friend and I are planning on doing (Midnight Nov.22nd) Probally Best Buy will be our first choice, followed by Circuit City (like you said it's right across the street), Target (practically next to best buy) Tint Red Umbrella, just up the street, Evil superwally world semi near by, Unfortunetly marketplace mall will be closed by then, and I am no longer a member of Sams Club. We are still very skeptical about there being "tons" of them after launch. (which is why we are going to be going through the trouble of doing the whole "midnight thing") I realize there was alot of talk about shortages of psp's so I pre bought that and there were never shortages, but you gotta keep in mind this is a CONSOLE (its an expensive console, coming out in a failing economy), but its a console none the less, and I would'nt be surprised if you had a hard time finding one a week or so after launch, right up until Christmas. (at least thats the negative nelly in me talking) |
Are any places like EB offering a trade-in special?
|
Id try Target.
|
Anyone know if at launch you can buy the system alone? Without having to buy the WHOLE bundle????????
