I guess this guys used some FFII Rom code to port over the ntire FF10 experience with the sphere grid system, blitzball mini game, and limit breaks all intact! Check out some of the animated gif's for the limit breaks and graphics. Some people have way too much time on their hands!

I love how any kind of fan-created project is pre-empted by "They have too much time on their hands!" Is that supposed to be a "I'm better than you!" response or a "I could never do anything more than post on an internet forum so I'll insult them to make me feel better about myself!" post? Sigh.
Anyways, I saw this last night. Seems like a hell of a project and I'll give props to the guys that worked on it rather than insult them like I was 10 years old. I recently tried looking into NES coding for a game I was working on and it's fucking hardcore, it put me in my place real quick. If, er, when an English translation comes out I'll probably burn the ROMS so I can play it on my real NES.

With all the work they did it looks like they were still limited to using four character names, Tidus' name is Tida! Of course, this is only because the long "Ti" sound in his name takes three characters to write out in Japanese. It also shows that they managed to incorporate never-fucking-ending cut scenes into an NES game.

Programming a game seems like work to me, all the other stuff you listed is fun.
Well, other than forum posting. That's just time killer while I'm at work and being compensated.

Enjoyment comes to mind. Satisfaction (though maybe not in the case of sex in my wife's mind).
I think it is pretty damn cool even though I haven't played a FF past the original and I have no idea what is going on in any of these gifs.

"Too much time on their hands" = tongue in cheek way of saying this looks like it took a lot of work and time.

That's vastly different from your implication of people sitting around at home in their free time posting on an internet forum instead of doing something else.

I was think the same thing, hopefully they do an English version. There are actually some really cool games made for the NES. I use my PSP almost entirely for NES and SNES.

Not really insulting them, just saying it amazed me. People can do whatever they want with their time.
Money, I will criticize wasteful spending as I've just always been fairly anticonsumerist, at least when it comes to vastly overpaying for stuff like that (i.e. novelty collectors items, especially in that case as you can buy the normal versions of those games for $5-10 total). Everyone has their pet peeves, one of mine is people spending tons of cash on crap like that.

Man you see all those people on the forums playing video games?? They have way too much time on their hands!
I kid!
I read about this a couple of days ago. This is a pretty cool idea (kind of like how Xenosaga I and II are coming out on the DS without all the cutscenes, etc.), they even have 8-bit music as well. I believe they haven't released the ROM for it yet, i highly doubt they will make an english version (most likely someone'll probably do a fan translation).

Back to the topic at hand...
Maybe this port will make people realize just how incredibly poor and archaic the gameplay was in FFX. It's only fitting that it's being ported to the NES - it has all the features of the first Final Fantasy games: a stodgy story, overly linear game design, superbly stereotyped characters, a rigid and boring battle system, and finally, endless battles that only raise your characters by infinitesimal increments. The only reason everyone went ga-ga was the astounding graphics.

By the way, this isn't a completed project. It's not even close. I'm not even sure if it's something that will ever be a completed project or if it's just a "This is how FFX would look like on the NES" project. The website has a few NES files and they're all simple demos of walking around various FFX locations. I think the whole thing was overblown based on just the sample images and animations on the website and US gamers lack of reading (or being able to read) the actual site.
