My main question is, if I have 4 people in my living room wanting to play this, can we all get on XBox Live and play against other players, just like Halo 2? The guide doesn't seem very clear on this and I have tried different ways of getting 4 people onto XBox Live for this game. NO Also, when playing against the computer A.I. is it only a single player game or can 2 to 4 people play against the A.I. as a team? NO Or is multiplayer the only way for more than 1 person to play? YES What if we all pick the American side, does that mean we don't have a viable game? Thanx for your answers, Chris |
What's the deal with no rockets in multi-player? I'd love a good rocket fest every now and then.

Ok.. I'm playing COD on Veteran and WOWZA it is flipping HARD!!! Last night I started "Rommel's Last Stand" and I'm at the very first part "Armoured Car Escape".. You start out up in a room with a MG42 you are supposed to man.
I played this about 20 times last night lasting about 15 seconds each time. I first take out the guy on the roof directly in front of you then I man the gun.. I start blazing saddles shooting everything I see (gas barrels in all).. I then get shot with about 50 bullets and die instantly.. I hate askin / looking for help but I don't really see any other option here.. What's the trick!!? |
I tried the first level on Veteran and couldn't even make it past the first room. Needless to say i won't be completing it on Veteran.
|
xmiyux, Martin said you were looking for a new TV.. I just got the Sony 42" HDTV (KDF-E42A10) and it is AWESOME. Just an FYI.
Ok back on topic.. How to I get out of this room! |
I'm having a hard time on standard mode. Though the game type is not my first type of choice. I'm having fun with it, but will probably only ever complete it on easy/normal mode. Hard and Veteran will be achivements I most likely won't get. CoD2 tonight. That was the consensus I got from those I spoke with on Live last night. Buy some points, get the 4 maps that were released. |

I'd have to say finishing this on Veteran is one of my proudest moments in my gaming history, because it is a bitch. :D |
COD1 was nearly impossible on the hardest difficulty as I recalled.
I've also determined that I blow at the mutliplayer PC version of this. I was pretty good right when it came out, but it seems I don't have the time to keep up with the rest of the gameplaying public. |

I start off the room by mowing those guys down first. When you finish that you should almost be at the point where a truck with jerries on it will come down the alley to the right of that building mow them down and then continue to the guys running around on the ground in front of you and to your left. After that just keep an eye out for the rooftop guys and continue the cycle (the alley truck comes only once). Another key point is to immediately drop the gun and duck or pull back from the window once you get hit once to recuperate. You'll be doing this a lot when you're killing the ground guys, but don't worry as no one will rush you from behind like some other missions. After you kill enough of the jerries someone will shout something about a tank coming. pull back from the window toward the middle of the room and crouch and the tank will start blowing holes through the wall and killing your others guys (you'll actually comandeer this tank in the next section). After a while it will stop shooting. Turn around and get ready to kill two jerries that will smash open the door to the room. After that head down the stairs, and if I remember correctly beware of the overturned table at the room leading out of the building as there are two jerries hiding behind it that you can't see till you walk up to it. After that you'll be outside and ready to move on.

Just shooting the kats on the roof, etc but I always got killed.. So your saying to concentrate on the roof guys and then when the truck rolls in (I have got to that point) mow them all down and then go right back to the roof? Man, I will have to agree that when I beat this game on Veteran I will be one proud gamer! |
After the truck gets taken out I usually went right to the ground guys in front of me and capped a few of them (or hit the explosive barrels), until the roof guys popped up and then kept alternating (almost like a circle pattern). The key I found was to keep dropping the MG42 when hit, duck, recuperate, then immediately pop back on it.
|
Yeah, you gotta keep your finger on that X button to get ready to drop. I also hold down the trigger and try not to stop and aim directly at the target, almost like drawing a line of bullets to the target.
I actually thought one of the hardest Vet levels was the last Comrade Sniper Russian mission where you have to blow up the half track. It was almost like this mission except they had snipers and Gerries kept coming into your building from both sides. |
The key to that mission was that you DIDN'T have to blow up the half-track to complete the mission, just kill all the foot soldiers. Kill the snipers and then run to the bottom of the right stairway and just keep killing the guys coming in through the window until the level completes. It's virtully impossible to stay alive in the upstars section for long.

I should try playing this again. When I got to the dessert missions the bunkers were giving making me sick. Maybe I should try hooking it up to a smaller TV. :) |
Finally! I beat that part!!
|
Wait til you get to D-Day. It took me forever to beat the part in the trenches. That was easily the hardest/longest level on veteran (for me).
|
I had the hardest time getting down one street in the Russian Mission "repairing the wire" I don't know what my deal was, but it was harder than hill 400.

I'm not sure I should keep playing this.. I mean, I don't think it's fun to me anymore but I'm just so close now. It's SOOOO frustrating to die OVER AND OVER AND OVER again when you get to those tough spots.. |
tbird2340 it's been a few months since I beat it, but I'll try to remember. Once you climb up the rope immediately move the to northeast with the stick and you will get to a trench get into quickly because there will get hit with a mortar if you're not fast enough. Follow the trench and stay to the left and it will lead you back up to the battlefield, there will be 2-3 jerries here so be careful (I usually crouch and wait for the first couple to come to me at the end of the trench). Kill them and then look down to the right where there will be an entrance to underground bunker. Once you start walking down a couple more will come out of the entrance and two more will be at the end of the tunnel and the one at the far end will evetually get killed by a cave-in. After that happens move in to the cave-in and your support guys will follow you in. You have to clear the bunker and you will see an MG42 pointing outside. You need to get outside that doorway and climb that little hill. You'd better have smoke grenades (treat them like gold), because you're gonna have to ground crawl pretty much all the way up the hill and straight to the clearing for the next checkpoint where you will enter the village. Not too many jerries here IIRC (I believe there is a trench with 2-3 of them between the checkpoint), but the MG42's will kick your ass if you stand up or out.
Hate to say it but it's just gonna get harder from here. THe worse part of this level is that at the end you have to come back and defend the bunkers from being overrun. I have a fairly safe hiding spot where you can camp at that part, if you still continue on. I agree that it almost becomes not fun when you're stuck playing one section for hours (I had many of those), but it just feels so realistic on Veteran and you'll be proud to get those 1000 points. Originally posted by Blade That's for freakin' sure! I hated that level. I think I ended up holing up somewhere downstairs and killing them as they came for me. That was a really irritating level. I think I was playing the difficulty level right above normal and I would manage to take out a few snipers and then get the guys coming in the doors, and then another sniper but then you had to start taking out snipers on the ground and I'd ususally end up dying soon after that. |
I read on IGN that Inifinity Ward is releasing a Call of Duty 2: Game of the Year edition that'll include a token redeemable for the newly released map packs, and a making of DVD. IGN says available now, but ebgames.com has it on preorder for $59.99 with a release date of 5/26/06 I think. Just a heads up for anyone that plans on picking this up soon.

Like many of you, I've been slowly working to finish this game on veteran difficulty. I've stumbled on to a strategy that seems to work for most of the maps. I believe the developers intended for you to just plow straight through the middle of the levels but, I had much better luck and fewer restarts by flanking the enemies. I'll try to move to the extreme left or right side of the maps to work my way forward. Sometimes this is not possible but, whenever I can I work my way around to the outside. Many times I won't have to shoot at all and I can get to the next checkpoint. Many of the checkpoints show up on based on time. In these cases I just sit back and wait while my allies get shreaded. The veteran difficulty in this game is one if not the hardest I've played in any game and any advantage (short of cheat codes) I can use I will.

Check out what happened to me last night!!
I'm working on the buildings in D-Day. It took me like 2 hours to clear house C.. I then have D - E - F left.. It takes me a while to clear D and then suprisingly I clear E & F back to back rather quickly.. I meet my team at the rally point and get my orders to climb the silo.. WOW. This is flippin hard! I play about 10 times lasting about a minute each time.. You really have to make EVERY bullet count because reload times will kill you.. On about the 11th try I acutally make it to the 2 minute checkpoint so I'm like "AWWW YEA!!" Well.. That's not the case. Right as it says checkpoint I happen to be out of bullets in my guy starts reloading. Also at this same time there are still 3 artilleries launching shells at me.. So what happens is I die like 4 seconds after the "checkpoint" and when it starts back at the same place I'm reloading and I die before I even get done reloading. I ended up having to turn off my 360 (not saving it because this would just keep happening). In turn that cost me losing houses E & F because I beat those in the same session. So..... I beat E rather quickly but have been on F for about 45 minutes!! |
I'm just getting ready to start that level. Pray for me. :)
