I've only played VII and X, so I have to say VII.

I'd go with Tactics but since it's not a choice I'll have to go with VII.

Maybe someday I'll get around the earlier ones seeing as how I already own them.

VI is my favorite without a doubt then IV, I think those two are leaps beyond the rest in terms of story and gameplay. All the rest just improve more on the presentation. X would be my next because I have a certain connection with it, then VII, then XI, Tactics, IX, X-2 (even though I never finished it), then VIII.

WOW, I'm the only one that enjoyed VIII the most. Actually my favorite was tactics. After VIII I think I liked VII and then X. Never really got into IX and befoe the newer ones I only played II.To me it felt kind of boring after being subjected to the newer ones.

I thought VIII had the best music of any FF game in the series and the story and ending were pretty good as well. My problem with the game was the Draw system and the Guardian Forces. The game was longer than it should have been with those two things. I actually remember falling asleep in the middle of a battle because I got bored of fighting battle after battle, drawing magic from the enemies. I finally bought a controller with turbo settings, set cursor to memory, went into battle and put a rubber band over the circle button and left the game on while I went and did something else. FFVIII is probably the only FF game I would never play over again.

FFVIII is actually not far behind VII for me, but thats not due to the gameplay mechanics.

i have the carts for I IV VI and then own VII IX and Tactics. tactics is my favorite and then VII comes next though i do love the ones for snes. But from that era they never felt quite as good as Chrono trigger and secret of mana to me.

Which one was on the original NES and had a point where you went back in time to a temple to kill a major boss? I believe there was also a long skinny bridge with a slim chance of random encountering a big mech that could give you a really cool item but it was super powerful. Either way, that is the one i liked.

I believe that was the first one, if I remember correctly. Unless you imported the only FF game we saw on the NES was the first one.

I loved 7. I don't think I've gotten involved in any game as much as I did that one. Consumed my life really.

Change mine to IV as well.

FFIV is good, but the game balance is way out of whack, characters coming in and out erratically, difficulty spikes, etc. It's funny to see Cecil taking 1HP damage and the same attack practically insta-killing some of the other characters (like the old sage guy). And the japanese hardtype is actually pretty difficult (I've been playing it on the Chronicles disc). USA Easytype though was the opposite.

FFX would be my #2, great story. But it had LAME difficulty. LAME. I died once, to one of those monsters that inflicts you with all status problems at once - all 3 characters were stoned/insta-killed. So instead it ranks in somewhere like #5.

GreenMonkey, i know what you mean. I've played and beaten FF4 as the original intended unedited version (which is opposite of American) and the random encounters went beyond fun to annoying but the characters and story were fantastic. With that i rank the SNES ones as FF6,4,5.

My 2nd favorite FF is quite different from the massively liked 1st choice of FF6. It's FF3, considered the best of the NES ones and the last on that system. What a shame it isn't released in the US yet!

I've only played VII and VIII and of those two VII was a better experience for me. It was the first PSX game I got along with Tekken 3, so it got a bit of sentiment tied to it as well.

VIII I just couldn't get into. I can't put my finger on why, but I just felt the whole thing was tedious. The gunblades were cool though.

Dragon Warrior IV is my favorite of the DW series, it should have been released on the GBC after DWIII. Innovations as enemy learning, owning shops, and parts of the story focusing on certain characters shows gameplay is more important than graphics-- more than one can say of todays RPGs with shiny CG and shallow game mechanics.

They remade Dragon Quest IV for the original Playstation. It ALMOST came out here but got cancelled due to numerous complications. It's sad really. I imported it, it totally rules. Spoilers below:


Considering that III was the last Dragon Quest ported to a portable, it's entirely possible that Square-Enix may port the remake of Dragon Quest IV to DS or PSP (either would be more than suited to handle it). They're just finishing up Slime Morimori 2 for the DS so maybe they'll reveal their next Dragon Quest project shortly after that.

Cheap CompactFlash to GBA device :D Comes with pocketnes built in. I bought it for basically Dragon Warrior IV emulation. You can use it for more unsavory things too but some things (like portable DWIV) you have to do yourself, because Square is too dumb to release it.

PS the extra chapter on the DWIV remake sounds awfully fun. Damn Heartbeat & Enix for us never getting it!

Haha, this poll clearly shows those that grew up later in gaming industry, during playstation era. Kinda of scary in way that FF7 is actually the highest at this website but I did enjoy FF7 and love Aerith, so its all good in end I suppose.
