Anyone have Namco 50th Anniversary?

I might pick it up for PSP. I was readign the XBOX had 80's song/songs on it...that is interesting,.

50th??

Namco the company been around for 50 years. They didn't start making games until 1977 or 1978 though.

No way I'd pay $40 for the PSP version when the more complete console versions are $20.

Actually, the PSP version is more complete. There are more games, new games and wireless multi-player.

Rolling thunder was a sweet game and I'd like to pick this up if the reviews are decent and the emulation is good. I'm more excited about Midway Treasures 3 which will have Hydro Thunder on it.

Pixy is correct. They started back in 1955 manufacturing rocking-horse rides and then later signed a deal with Disney to manufacture rides based on the likeness of Disney characters. You can read more about it here.

There used to be two, North and South. I'm pretty sure neither was manufactured by Namco, though..... But, maybe that explains the wave of Communism that spread through Southeast Asia in the Sixties and Seventies -- It was Pac-Man!

well, I may rent it for the PSP for this weekend...long road trip, I'm sure there will be some down time. Relaxation weekend.

I know it has a 1.52 update required for it....but there is a program to fake it out :)

I rented the PSP version. The update switcher worked great. The game is just ok though, nothing TOO exciting. I always seems to get excited about these retro collection, but then I remember the games are just not as fun as they used to be. It's ok though....glad I rented it.

Borrowed the Xbox version from a friend for the weekend. The disc includes two extra games that you have to unlock (which is actually very easy). It includes Pac-Mania (which was also an unlockable on the original Namco Museum) and the excellent Galaga '88.

Pac-Mania is a decent game but why won't they ever release Super Pac-Man? That is the one I would like to see. Matter of fact, release a complete Pac-Man compilation with Pac-Man Jr. as well with a digital interface for the pin-ball section. It will never happen but it is fun to dream. I played the hell out of those two back in the day.

Galaga '88 is an awesome addition. It was another one that I played a lot in the arcades and it is just as addictive as the first one. It is much better than the Galaga "Arrangement" included on the first Namco Museum.

Two games that I had completely forgotten about until I played this collection: Rolling Thunder and Sky Kid. Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't Rolling Thunder an arcade game while Sky Kid was a NES game? I just remember a lot of my quarters going to Rolling Thunder. It seems simple at first...but the enemies keep piling on. I also remember my friends & I being astounded at the graphics of Rolling Thunder at the time.

Rolling Thunder still holds up well and they even give you an invincibility option if you want to "roll" thru it. Unfortunately it does not help you on the awful jumping sections. Now I remember why I never could finish it. Jeez, they knew how to take our quarters back then.

Mappy is a new addition as well & it is always fun to play.

Other additions since the original Namco Museum: Rally-X (never liked it), Xevious (great game), Dragon Spirit (Xevious in a dragon's body), and Bosconian (never liked it).

You lose the new "arrangements" of Pac-Man, Galaga, Dig Dug (which is pretty good), and Pac-Attack (a Tetris Pac-Man game).

I would have thought that they could have included more but who knows. The menu screen is pretty cool & they play some 80's hits that you would have heard while blasting away in the arcade (though they only play in the menu screen). The load times to get out of the games are unnecessarily long and there is no "start the game over" option. You have to finish your game or go thru the long load time to exit.

The load times on the original release are nil. Another thing on the original that they took off the new version are the side drawings that help fill up your screen. Now they are just black bars.

Galaga '88 and Mappy are a lot of fun but not enough to get me to swap it for my original release. Rolling Thunder is awesome but there is not a lot of replayability. Rent it if you have the original release or buy it if you don't.

Sky Kid was an arcade game first.
