That's pretty big news. Probably deserves its own thread.

It's on the first page of that thread also....but I like its own thread too.
|
I didn't think they were making any "wired" controllers.
|
Ouch! $400 is a heck of a lot of money for a console, but I can't see myself buying the cheap version without a hard drive. What is everyone planning on doing?
|
I plan on waiting for the first major price drop. I am hoping that the prices go down to $250 and $300 respectively. I may get the 360 at those prices. $400 is way too much for a console.
|
I agree that $400 is too much for a console, especially considering it doesn't come in with built in wireless networking. That should have been a no-brainer.
|
The thing that annoys me, is the wireless adapter will be $99. So if I was going to go xbox, I'd get the $399 version + $99 + $59 (1 game) = $560 + tax to play 1 friggin game. Oh Yeah, plus whatever the xbox live fee is. I think this just made my "Xbox or PS3" decision for me. If I'm going to spend that much, I'll just wait for the PS3.
Here are the accessory prices, from evilavatar.com: • Faceplate ($19.99, 19.99 Euros, 14.99 GBP) • Hard Drive (20 GB) ($99.99, 99.99 Euros, 69.99 GBP) • Memory Unit (64 MB) ($39.99, 34.99 Euros, 22.99 GBP) • Wireless Networking Adapter ($99.99, 79.99 Euros, 59.99 GBP) • Wireless Controller ($49.99, 44.99 Euros, 32.99 GBP) • Play and Charge Kit ($19.99, 19.99 Euros, 14.99 GBP) • Rechargeable Battery Pack ($11.99, 14.99 Euros, 9.99 GBP) • Controller ($39.99, 34.99 Euros, 24.99 GBP) • Headset ($19.99, 19.99 Euros, 14.99 GBP) • Universal Media Remote ($29.99, 29.99 Euros, 19.99 GBP) • Component HD AV Cable ($39.99, 29.99 Euros, 19.99 GBP) • S-Video AV Cable (US) ($29.99) • SCART AV Cable (Europe) (24.99 Euros, 17.99 GBP) • VGA HD AV Cable ($39.99, 29.99 Euros, 19.99 GBP) |
I've never paid more than $200 for a console, so there's no way I'm getting a 360 anywhere near launch.
And I agree with Groucho that $400 is too much for a console, especially when you're going to have to pay more for wireless unless you're one of those techies with a nicely wired house or a slob that doesn't mind ethernet cables strung throughout the house. :D I guess college students in dorms will be a ok though. |
$99 for wireless Networking!
|
I'd go with a PS3 but the ps2 controller is too uncomfortable and small for my hands. I prefer the controller-s a lot more and sadly, the controller may end up being the deciding factor on which one to go with. maybe I could get used to the ps3 bananaphone thing.
|
I like the Xbox 360, but man that is out of my price range right now. I would also have to buy the wireless adaptor to go with it so I will have to go on the waiting for a price drop list. The HDD is a must so I wouldn't buy the $299 set.
Speaking of overpriced. $99 for the Game Boy Micro? Good luck with that Nintendo. Oh well, I guess the Micro is priced along the same line as the 360 Wireless adaptor so maybe it is a good value. These companies have lost their minds. |
Well, I sure you can use ANY Wireless adaptor, so you don't have to get the overpriced MS one. I bet you could just plug a wireless router and save cash
|
Fucking W! -eek-

Hell, you may need you're own wireless router, the adapter may just be like a notebook card. i.e. just an antenna to pick up the signal from your router. I believe that's how the X-box wireless works, but I haven't looked into it recently as I didn't have much interest in Live this gen. |
I'm almost positive it plugs into USB....there is a picture of it in the XBOX360 thread...check first page. OF course you will need a wireless router to connect to on your PC though.
It's just a small adaptor. |
Still, as another poster said in the 360 thread, it's not likely MS would put drivers on their for other companies usb adapters.
And as I said, they're as greedy as all big companies and need to make up the money they lose on each console. Forcing people to pay $100 for a wireless adapter is a good way to do so. |
When Microsoft said they were not going to lose money this generation they weren't kidding.
If the wireless adaptor is USB you can probably use one of the ones they sell in stores with it. However, those were $60-$70 the last time I looked at one for my PS2. |
forget the hard drive for a moment. The cheapo doesn't even come with component cables! $40 for those. I thought this was the generation of hi-def gaming, MS? I guess not. Add in the wireless controller + hard drive(for $60 more) and it makes the cheapo worthless in my book.
MS is insane. |
I've seen wireless-g USB adapters for $20. However, whether these will work on the 360 is doubtful.
|
Poor GameBoy Micro :( Maybe it should have gotten it's own thread

Come to think of it, I might just buy one of these now, just in case I need it in the future! |
Doubt the Micro would have gotten any more play in its own thread. No one is interested in it as it's absolute pointless if you already have an SP or a DS. Hell, totally pointless even for those without as the SP is already too small to play comfortably IMO.

As I said on the other thread the $299 360 is garbage and not worth anyones time. Even having it on the shelves is an insult to all consumers. Hell in the interview they even say they don't expect them to sell well compared to the $400 unit, well duh..
If i was buying the 360 it would by the 399 without question but looking at the overall cost to buy some additional accessories there is no chance of that. Once u take into account some of the almost essential accessories you have to buy then the PS3 might even end up being cheaper. The GBA micro would be worth 99 btw if u could also use it as a mobile ;). |

I'll buy a $400 Xbox on launch day. I dont have anything better to spend it on.

Even saving money there though $399 is still just more than I can see paying. Maybe MS will have a few killer titles though. Not to mention the price may drop when the PS3 is released. Getting back to the Micro. Not only is it overpriced, but it is also not compatible with anything but GBA titles. Granted using the older GB titles would kind of kill the whole point of it being that small. Honestly the Micro seems a complete waste of time and money on Nintendo's part. I smell sales disaster with that one. |
I thought the Micro DID play GB abd GBC games. It was the DS that doesn't.

I don't understand all the fuss about? This price point has never been a secret. Hell, over the years a lot of members of this forum didn't want the xbox to have a Hard drive now that chose is given, they now complain that it comes with a wired controller, no HD AV cables and no wireless card. Sheesh!!!!
I will buy the $399 version it just makes more sense to get the Hard drive, wireless controller. I already have 2 Linksys ethernet bridges, a boat load of HD av cables. The days of getting a game and a spare controller are pretty much dead. Inflation and technological advance killed those benefits. |
Yeah, I have $200+ credit at GameRush....hopefully they will get both version of the console, if not, that's a few 360 games
|
Basically that amounts to $100 for a 20 GB hard drive and a wireless controller, since I don't care the other stuff. Complete ripoff for me...
|
Based on the other thread, it turns out those price points are for the European release. And it sounds like the WiFi adapter will be included on the "value" console.

Then, allow my outrage to return!

If they had at least announced the Play Yan with it I might have interest in that aspect, but once again it seems Nintendo has missed the boat in the US. |
i already have $385 in pre-payment at gamestop for a 360.. can't wait for this thing to come out. And i'm on their first shipment list, so i should get it first day
