So have any of you failed any missions and quit trying to pass them?

I am currently at the mission where Big Smoke and I
Spoiler:
take on the russians
. Damn that mission is long & tough. Big Smoke sucks as far as defending himself and staying behind cover. I also tried the mission for O.G. where you
Spoiler:
infiltrate the music guy's house. Using stealth is tough. Splinter Cell this is not. Did any of you give up and just kill everyone without stealth?

I am not very far into the game but it seems like the mission are either too easy or pretty difficult. But I am loving every minute of it.

I don't know which drive I have, how do you find out? I think I have had my xbox since 02. If your drive does die what does it cost to get it repaired? I really don't want to lose all my gamesaves.

Just Business (Big Smoke mission) can be tough. It took me 4 or 5 tries. The stealth mission was easy just go in blazin hommie. THATS HOW I ROLL.

I'm heavily into the turf wars. I've got a majority of the first town but I'm wondering if I take all of the "Purple" gang's turf will they all be gone forever?

Well, there's a simple and a not so simple answer to that...

Simple answer:
Spoiler:
Yes, if you take all of the territory of a specific gang, they won't be able to capture any of your turf, and if you capture all the territory you can, you'll stop being attacked

Not so simple answer (contains vague plot spoilers!)
Spoiler:
Even if you capture all of the LS turfs in the beginning of the game, something happens eventually that causes you to lose everything, so don't worry too much about capturing everything

Do you get anything for controlling 100% of the hood then? I think I'm getting some extra benjamins at my crib for each turf I jack but is there any other advantage?

Spoiler:
Outside of just getting a ton of money at your house, nope. You do earn respect for every turf you capture/enemy gang member you kill, but that's most likely going to max out WAY before you take over all the turf

Something to consider before you try going for 100% turf control, though (minor spoilers)...
Spoiler:
There's one turf that you can't access in the beginning of the game, and you won't be able to reach it until you open up the entire map.

I am about halfway through the San Fiero missions. So far the Turf wars were my favorite thing to do. If I would have realized I wouldn't be able to do it through the whole game, I would have done it more. Can you gain turf again later in the game?

i know the turf wars, "Just Business" and "reuniting the Families" were my favorite missions in any GTA game....ever. But now in San Fierro and Badlands most of the missions ive done so far are drving around, taking pics, pimping and shooting down RC helicopters. Does SF get any better, and also is LV a big pick-up from the game?

Spoiler:
So far, the only decent mission in Badlands/Fierro was burning Truth's "crops"......

Yes. It's a lot later, though.

It's hard to say, really... I found that there were some interesting missions later on (and there's one event that happens later on that's really neat, but it's not related to any specific mission per se). Personally, I think I enjoyed the beginning LS missions the most, as well.

How do you assemble a gang? I get a message saying that I can now run a 3 man gang but I have no idea how to do it.

Target one of your gang members (the random guys wearing green), and press down or up on the control pad. Once they're with you, you can press down on the control pad to have them stay put, or up to call them to you. If you hold down on the control pad, it will disband the gang. Also, going too far away from fellow gang members will also knock them out of your gang.

Unfortunately, they'll only get into the same car as you, and won't follow you around in seperate cars.

i wish those guys could drive their own asses around while i shoot or something, thats probably why i liked "JB" and "RtF" so much becuase you got to finally get choferred around and shoot. Plus, the pure chaos of those two missions, esp. "RtF", was seriously bad ass.

Spoiler:
I actually cringed when the cop lands on top of Sweet's car and in moments is chopped to peices by the low-flying police copter. Man, that was insane.....

Man the Zero missions are hard. I hated the stupid RC vehicles in the other games and i hate them in this one. The stupid RC plane is so hard to fly.

Yeah, that's easily the hardest mission in the game. None of the other ones even come close to it. The trick is to figure out the best order to take out the couriers... well, that and getting used to flying the plane .

I thought the exact same thing after I got the Rc Plane mission, what a waste of money! Well the chaingun mision was kinda cool.

I really didn't do too many burglaries, it seemed like a slow and boring way to get money. I would rather cap me some balla fools and take their paper. I did go into a house to rob it once and about six ballas started shooting me for comin in their house.

The mission after Supply Lines is a fun one, though, and the reward for beating all of Zero's missions can be handy.

I don't know which mission Supply Lines was, but for beating all of Zero's missions you get

Spoiler:
$$$

More specifically,

Spoiler:
one of the $ pickups that steadily increases to a max of $5000 until you collect it.

sdcrym covered the reward for Zero's missions already (fyi, Supply Lines is the infamous "remote controlled plane" mission that gives everybody a tough time). If you wanted to know what the mission after that entails:

Spoiler:
It's a "final showdown" between Zero and Berkley, and instead of going and killing him like you'd expect to do, instead they end up settling their differences with (surprise) remote-controlled vehicles. That mission, which is the last one you have to do for Zero, takes place on this little landscape with all these remote controlled tanks and such on it. You control a little chopper and you have to escort Zero's RC car to the other side of the playing field.

Ah yes, that did suck. Not near as bad as the 2nd level of the blood ring, though. Whoever designed that is somewhere between an idiot and a sadist. The highest I could get my time was barely over a minute, and it took me about 20 minutes to get that . Eventually somebody's car exploded next to mine and took me out.
