Doom got me into PC gaming. HL1 was the most enjoyable game overall. Right now playing a lot of HL2DM.

1. Battlefield 1942 (and hopefully BF2 next week)

2. Mean 18 (apple IIgs)-hours of drunken after hours gambling at work. This made me look it up and I can't believe how crappy the graphics were given what they are doing now.

3. Imagic Touchdown Football for the IBM PC Jr-the only reason to own the piece of crap. We used to set it to self play mode on the sales floor and bet on the games. I could play it for hours.

Special mention:

Decathlon on the Apple IIe-the first real drinking and gambling game. A true testament to the build quality of those damn keyboards because most of the events were just pounding th crap out of a couple keys.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I'm an old bastard!

Ahh this thread reminds me of some good old memories.

1. Any of Sid Meier's old game - Pirates!, Civilization series, the original Railroad Tycoon, F-19... shit. I can't decide.
2. Wing Commander series, with Privateer sitting on the top.
3. Red Baron 1 & 2.

Also, 1942: Pacific Air War.

Warcraft II
Quake (series)
Diablo

There were many a night in my college dorm where those three games were king on the network. I remember buying quake 1, and then someone found qcrack, and everyone had it. We had floor vs. floor matches that were just EPIC...

ah, good games listed. Ive got one that hasnt been listed, these are in no particular order

Deus ex (awesome shooter, took the beloved system shock 2 and made it better)
Civ (and all the sequels. IVe seen the sun come up more than once because of civ)
doom 2 (ah, simplier times, this shooter started all the multiplayer for me. First by modem, then by lans, played this game alone for years, even into the quake days, still retro it at lans occaisionally.)

Tough to leave games like pirates, or worms (scorch was first, but worms multi seals it) or even carmageddon2 off the list.

AHH! I forgot about Worms, because there were only like 4 of us that played...that sucker was the worst of all, becuase the games would last like 2 hours, as the one guy played "dark" by burrowing his little bastards into the ground and letting everyone else blow the crap out of themselves first. That game...it's just, quite simply, addictive.

Phantasmogoria (never got the sequel for some odd reason)
Gaberial Knight II: Beast Within (never got the sequel or the original, either)

honor mentions:
odeal lake, where in the time is Carmen Sandiego, Out of this World (3D0 version remains as my favorite version), Burn:Cycle, & Warcraft II.

All three games were great, but my favorite is Gabriel Knight 3. If you played the second one first though, you may be a bit suprised when you find Tim Curry in the starring role.

I used to love playing Delta Force online. I didn't care much for the sequels, but the original was a blast. There's a PS2 version coming soon I may check out.
