We'll have to see if MS has choosen wisely.

I don't agree. I think the only group Sony is marketing to are tech junkies and graphics whores. Just my opinion though. I consider myself a "hardcore" gamer and games are what matter to me. Neither Sony nor Microsoft have delivered in that area yet. I know the PS3 and 360 aren't cool yet by what I don't see.

However, I also see the potential in both systems in certain aspects and know where developer support will most likely come from, which has me more than sold on getting both. I don't need celebs stroking their controllers or press conferences telling me how many teraflops my console can do compared to yours.

I'm a big boy and I can decide without the glam, glitz, specs and chest puffing.

You should probably add revolution to the poll. Or make a new one.

There aren't any revolution games shown yet right? So for me it's Perfect Dark, ghost recon, call of duty vs warhawk, gundam, killzone, devil may cry, rockstars western. I'm leaning towards the ps3 though. More games and backwards compatabilty.

And wtf is up with the silver vs gold xbox live? First you buy the xbox, then the game, then the xbox live subscription and in addition you pay extra for gold service.

Do these guys realize they're making video games and not cars?

Of course Spidey likes it. They used his font on the system itself!

Why on earth is backwards compatibility an issue ?

When these new consoles are out, the currents ones will be able to be bought second hand for a few bucks! Often with mod chips etc

Already been discussed in multiple threads but.

1. A lot of us don't have room for any more systems in our home theaters, and it's a pain to drag consoles out of the closet when you want to play something.

2. It's nice to be able to sell the old one as a "down payment" on the next gen system.

3. It's simply a nice convenient feature, and a strike against the 360 for those that care, since both the competing consoles have it and then some (with PSone support on the PS3, and NES, SNES and N64 downloads for the Revolution).

See this thread for other's takes on the issue.

I guess it's safe to declare the real winner of the next-gen console wars: IBM. :)

They did design the PowerPC, didn't they?

BTW, I got a new iMac tonight and I'm loving it!

Yeah Intel should be fairly worried right now. They should have been desperate to get their chips into at least 1 nextgen console you would think but it didn't happen. Also how about Cell in your desktop? Game over intel.

joshd2012 05-17-05 10:15 PM

I don't think Intel is worried about IBM so much as they are AMD. IBM put themselves in the right position and they are going to make their money this generation.

It was my understanding that silver level was free with purchase of the system and allowed only basic functions, gold would be like the current level where you paid to actually play. Not exactly sure of the difference.

I caught part of the X360 bit on G4 this afternoon, was I the only one who thought the MS people were talking like they were addressing a stockholders meeting? I was amazed a speech on videogames could actually be boring.

As new info comes to hand, it's PS3 by a mile

With PS 2 v Xbox it was arguably about Better/bigger games library (PS2) v more powerful system (Xbox).

Now if the PS3 has BOTH the power and the games library, i think it's game over.

Xbox360 will obviously start ahead with an earlier release and there will for sure be many buyers who need to shoot their wad then and there, but when the PS 3 hits the marketplace i think things will be looking grim for the 360

Count me in as well. I was thinking of purchasing a psp2 year and a half ago and good thing now i didnt. Psp3 is what i was waiting for..finally i can immerse myself in a real world. Awesome cant freakin wait! I havent bought a video game system in years...my last system was nintendo 64..system for a young audience lol

Decker 05-18-05 09:04 AM

Having a hard time seeing many advantages of the Xbox 360 over the more powerful PS3. It looks nicer, I suppose. My inkling is with the PS3 for now.

Save Ferris 05-18-05 09:44 AM

Im buying both but Im looking forward to the Xbox more. The Live features are going to be a lot of fun. Im not sure what to expect with Playstation 3 online features.

joshd2012 05-18-05 09:46 AM

Sony did announce a Sony Network thing, but didn't say exactly what it would. I think its a good first step by centralizing the processes, but if they can't emulate everything Live is doing, its going to suck.

Save Ferris 05-18-05 10:03 AM

The thing I hate about online gaming is dealing with losers and super skilled geeks that waste my ass every second. If the new Live can control that AND add features on top of that, its going to be miles ahead of PS3 in my eyes.

Silver will be comlpetely free, and allow you to play games on-line during the weekend. Gold will be the same as a current Live membership and allow you to play all day, every day.

You guys do realize that the 360 is going to be $300 while the PS3 will be at least $500, don't you? Come on! $500 for a system?! That's crazy talk!

I remember an EB Games employee telling me in 1999 almost exactly the same thing about the PS2 as he tried to talk me into a Dreamcast instead. Didn't believe him then, don't believe you now.

maingon 05-18-05 10:47 AM

after seeing killzone 2, i gotta say ps3

Sonic 05-18-05 11:16 AM

Psp3 will not be $500 lol

PS3 price rumours begin to emerge
Ellie Gibson 15:02 18/05/2005

Japanese newspaper claims Sony has confirmed a price point of "less than 50,000 yen"

Just days after the PlayStation 3 was unveiled for the first time at Sony's pre-E3 press conference, Japanese newspaper Mainichi Shimbum claims the company has offered the first hint as to a price point.

According to the May 17 article, Sony officials told the paper that the PS3 will go on sale in Japan with a launch price of "less than 50,000 yen" - approximately $465 or UKP 255 at current exchange rates.

But European consumers have traditionally paid more for their consoles than their Japanese and North American counterparts, meaning that if history repeats itself the PS3 could go on sale here at upwards of UKP 400 - making it into one of the most expensive consoles to be launched in the UK in recent years.

Last year industry analysts Wedbush Morgan Securities suggested a PS3 price point of $500, arguing that added media functions - such as TiVO-style capabilities and a DVD burner - could push up the cost. However, Sony did not announce any such functions when it revealed the PS3 specs list on Monday.

Microsoft is also keeping tight-lipped regarding a price for the Xbox 360, but analysts have speculated that it will come in somewhere around the $400 mark. Nintendo's Revolution console, which is likely to be a much lower-spec machine than the PS3 and 360, is expected to carry a much lower price tag accordingly.
