some odd 80's system that only played one game
 

I remember this Sky Wolf game or something that was advertised in comics and it was some sort of "video game" where you could play the game like only once a week during a show at a certain time. What the hell was that?

There was a Captain Power show that may have been similar. There were toys that had "light guns" in them, that could respond to certain static-filled red areas in the show or videotape. Obviously, it wasn't truly interactive, as nothing you could do would actually affect the show, but the toys probably had counters on them or something that showed how many enemy ships you shot down.

Of course, you may be talking about something else entirely...

That describes the "Action Max" to a T, but you could "play" that any time you wanted, since the "games" were videotapes.

The only game I remember being only able to play at a certain time (at least, in a certain way) was the Wheel of Fortune game that would let you play along with the show. The show would send the puzzle data to the device so you could try to solve the puzzles at home. When the show wasn't on, the only way to play was to create your own puzzles and have someone else try to solve them. Or maybe you could get cartridges for it with puzzles already on them. I don't remember-it was back in the 80's.

Slightly OT, but this thread reminded me of an old TV promotion that played locally in NY when I was a kid. It was on WPIX, channel 11 in my neck of the woods. I think they called kids who sent in post-cards during Saturday morning cartoons, and you would have to yell "PIX!" to have a little ship fire upwards at Galaga type things.

This would have to be in the very early 80's, I think.

Yes, Captain Power had some weird flashing lights during the show that would interact with the toy ships/guns. It not only kept a score, but also if you were "hit" too many times, your little pilot would eject.

How long ago was the comic, do you remember? When in the 80s? What type of comic? That would help narrow it down...

I immediately thought of captain power as well. I'd watch that crappy show, but never had the toys to play along. :/

Wow, I haven't heard anything about Captain Power in a long time. I used to have the PowerJet and some of the figures. Unfortunately I have no clue what happened to any of the toys I had.

After it lost popularity, but before I outgrew it, I found some on clearance that had the tape with it. It didn't work very well, and just didn't seem like that good of an idea. I played with the ship, but didn't bother with the tapes much.

oh yeah the comics were from the early to mid 80's and can't remember the titles off hand but they were in Marvel because that is all i read when I was 4 to 8 or so. I am 22 now.

it probably was Captain Power because I was thinking it was called Sky Captain but that wasn't it. Just had an odd memory of it and really wanting it and my dad telling me that. He probably just lied to me so I wouldn't ask for it again.
