So I show up at my local Eb today to pick up my pre-order. The dude that sold me the pre-order on Sunday is there. I ask him why he guaranteed the game would be there Tuesday when it wasn't. He thought for a second, and said "oh it was here Tuesday, it got here late, around 7pm"
If that was the case, why didn't they call me and let me know? I would have picked it up that night. I asked him if I didn't pre-order, would I be able to pick up the game today, and he said yes. I told him that's why I don't pre-order, what a big hassle. |

Hmm... I was going to PM at BB with the Fry's price, but they did the tricky "arrow-pointing-to-another-price" thing in their ad, which BB usually hassles me about. Surprisingly, I did see both limited and regular editions out there. I almost bought the regular one, so they are out there on the first shipment (the limited has a foil cover), unlike Mechassault. For 36 bucks, I can't complain.
Glad they sweetened that Gamerush deal. I traded in a couple of games when they had the deal to preorder for 35, and to my dismay Fry's then had a sale on the game (Timesplitters) for 37. So I saved about a buck a game. Ah well. |
I picked my copy of the LE at Walmart for 46.48 on the way home. I will probably wait since Gamefly's copy shipped to me today.

Yeah, I know. I thought he was buying it from them. They do sell games too, right?

Yeah they sell used I think but no I rented it.

just finished the game in around 12 and 1/2 hours. I skipped over about 2-3 optional side quests in the imperial city, so that probably would've added at least 2 more hours of playing time. though it was short, it didn't feel short at all. I had fun every second I was playing it and enjoying the story as it moved along.
upgrading spirit thief, jade golem transformation, a main overall weapon style, and a style that can hurt spirits/ghosts, definitely makes the game a whole lot easier and the boss fights seem very quick. |

This game was just released a couple of days ago! Good job, though! |
12 hours? That's awful. But then again, I think someone on Gamefaqs said they are 8 hours in and barely into chapter 2. I myself am about halfway through chapter 2 and have logged about 4 hours.
|
12 hours??? sonuva... wish i had waited now for it to hit the $20 mark.
|
Wow. That sucks.
I'm really getting sick of this trend with big releases gettting shorter and shorter. :( Guess I'll defiintely wait for this to hit $20 now. |
12 hours isn't the standard. You can take your time and go much longer, as I said above. I am 8 hours in and in chapter 2. There's no way I finish 5 more chapters in 4 hours.
Besides, there are other characters to play the game with after you finish it. I am actually looking forward to doing that. In games like KOTOR, I never ended up playing again as light side, but this game makes me want to explore the different characters. I also heard they react specifically to your character. Not just the standard male/female differences either. |
Ah, I used to lament "short" game times, but then I realized that with my schedule, 12 hours will last me a good long while... much longer than that, and I get bored and move onto the next thing anyway. Not to mention that most of the old-school games that we think about as long are either:
a) shorter than we thought, once we go back to play them b) long because they're endlessly repeating levels or c) Artificially lengthened by forcing the person to "level up" or play through levels twice, or whatever. If it's fun, and I finish it in 12 hours and it can hold my attention for that long, that's cool. Maybe not worth 50 bucks (but what game really is?), but for 36, i can live with it. |
Yeah, it's the price thing that gets me rather than just the length. A 12 hour games is fine for the right price. I like to keep it around a $1 an hour for games as gaming's a few rungs down on my hobby list these days.

Jade Empire is great, though. Some of the conversations are hilarious. I found myself laughing out loud at alot of them. Very colorful characters.
|
I read that there are multiple outcomes depending upon the path you choose, and that they are major branches of the story. So it seems like you can get more than 2 stories when you play through the game. Can anyone confirm this?
I'm going to wait for the game to drop to $20 or come out for the PC before picking it up. The review at Gamespot has really turned me off of the game. It seems like the combat is just button mashing, and the experience gains and monetary gains aren't worthwhile. So the only reason to pick it up is the story at least judging from the Gamespot review. :( |
i definitely do not want to deter people from buying this game just because I finished it in 12 hours or so. the reason why it was so quick was I skipped over about 2-3 side quests in the imperial city (black leopard school, helping the girl), as well as 1-2 at Tien Landing (a lady wanted me to re-open the dam, when I closed it). that would've probably put the game near the 20 hour mark where most reviewers were putting it at. also like other posters have mentioned you could go through the game again with another character style, and try out different styles than your first time around.

just finished the game in around 12 and 1/2 hours. I'm not sure how much is left, but I'm estimating I'm on pace to beat the game in around 25 hours or so. How long a game like Jade Empire takes to beat depends on you. My roomate beat Fable in under 11 hours, but anyone who has played it knows you can take your time and make it last longer. For Jade Empire I turned off the subtitles, listen to every conversation, and talk to everyone (usually until I hear everything they have to say). Assuming it takes me 25 hours to complete, and since this game kicks @$$ and I will play it through 2 more times (once closed fist and once in the middle) for the multiple endings, That's 70+ hours. |
Sounds like the length of the game is determined on how you play video games. I'm the type that likes to search everywhere, gathering as much objects and experience as possible, even perhaps finding the almighty "easter egg" if one exists.
I haven't played this game so I don't know what you all are talking about, but take Half Life 2 for example...I'll take the normal path, clear out the way of enemy AI, then turn around and head back looking for different places that you couldn't see when moving ahead the first time. In KOTOR, I would exploit all possible choices when speaking with anyone until there was either no choices left or they would repeat themselves. Fable: 15 hours (good guy) + 14 (bad guy which was more fun!) = 29 hours KOTOR: 35 hours (darkside) + 29 hours (lightside) = 64 hours Half Life 2: 14 hours (middle difficulty) + 16 hours (highest difficulty) = 30 hours If I were to get my hands on Jade Empire, I could easily clock-in over 30 hours because of the way I play games. |
