I don't think the HD could be connected to the new slim PS2, although there is supposed to be an adapter available in Japan.

I think I remember reading somewhere that you are SOL if you bought the slim PS2 as far as the HD. Sorry.

YEP! SOL

Sony's rationalization was something along the lines of........

All gamers who are interested in FFXI have already purchased a PS2.

So basically they killed any future sales for Final Fantasy XI on PS2? Is it just me or is the real reason for this because people were copying rented games on the HD?

You may want to give USB Extreme a try (http://www.modchipstore.com/USB_eXtr...o-p-16241.html)
Not sure how legit the store is, but it has a little bit about the software there.

It allows you to use a USB hard drive with the PS2. I'm not sure exactly how FFXI works on the PS2, but that may be a work around for playing it.

Just a note.. assuming that the ps2's usb ports are 1.1 (not 2.0) then there's no way this will work with FFXI, performance-wise.

That, and there were very few games that actually used it, besides FFXI, which was packed in. Not to mention, they couldn't debut a sleeker PS2 if they had to still make room for it.

I still don't see why Square wasn't upset about this. Or is most of their MMORPG userbase in Japan, where they debuted the adapter?
