How To Coonect Xbox To Theater System!?

I'm having trouble connecting the xbox to the system. I connected the system fine and it works great when I play movies.

Do I need a different cable? (Does the optical digital cable do the trick?).I have an AV Pack!

I connected through AUX but I only get Sub and 1 speaker working not all the 5.1.

Is there a website that could show me how to unless someone know here in this forum.

Thanks.

The optical cable is exactly what you need to hook up in order to have 5.1

Can get them cheap on Ebay or perhaps Radio Shack, no need to buy a marked-up one for emaple at Best Buy or Circuit City.

Hey

First off did you go into the XBox system setup menu and set the audio values?

Second if you're trying to get 5.1/DTS yes you have to use the optic output.

Third I'm wondering why you're using the "AUX" input? You need to tell us what receiver you have and what inputs/outputs is on there. Most "Surround Rec'rs" have at least one optic and one coax for 5.1/DTS. Of course you have to use the "optic" option for the XBox. You may also have to do some type of setup in the receiver as well. All this should be in the guide that came with your Xbox.

If you do have to get an optic cable don't go and spend mega $$$ on some fancy brand -"Monster for XBox". Something like the blue Accoustic Research cable at Best Buy will do ok. There's allot of great deals on E-Bay for cable which is where I get mine. I picked up some High End Accoustic Research that was still new but like two years old normally $55 for $12 each. Whatever you get just be sure to be careful and not to kink it.

Best Buy has a 3 foot optical cable for $20, the 6 foot is $26

Target has a 12 or 15 foot optical cable for $15, and Circuit City has a 6 foot optical cable for $14 I believe.

I actually have all 3 (Xbox, PS2, Tivo) and they work great.

1. Yes. I set up the Dolby/DTS in my Xbox.

2. I was using AUX just to try to make it work some other way.

3. It doesn't matter what brand to use?

Should I get any brand? I'm thinking of getting one at target as suggested above.

Yet another question. Is there a way to make dreamcast get the same treatment?

The "Brand" game is just that. It's nothing more than a status sysmbol. Get the Target or the AR blue at Best Buy and you should be set.

You can hook your Dreamcast up to your reciever via the red/white composite cables. Then use Pro Logic II to get a faux 5.1 sound. Thats the best it'll get for the Dreamcast and any other video game system except the PS2 and Xbox.
