Darwinia

This game is awesome.

Darwinia is a very atmospheric action game - it plays a lot like Syndicate. It inherits its visual style from old 80's games, but it embeds it in a 3D fractal-landscape engine that just rocks. It's designed by the group that did Uplink: Hacker Elite, which you might recognize as another very deep and fun game.

Your hit squad. You can research and improve their weapons.

Yes, you get to fight Centipedes, among others.

Some pests harassing your squadron of good guys (the green ones.)

This is an excellent game - lots of fun, and much replayability. Multiplayer will be available soon.

I thought the demo was pretty neat once I figured out what I was supposed to be doing. It could have used an extra level or two, though. It'd be nice to get a bit more of a sampling of the game..

True, the demo was confusing - Introversion admitted as much and released a new demo with an improved tutorial. But even then, it was still kind of unclear.
