On a relatively unrelated note, I just increased my GC collection to 4 games, wooo!

Wouldn't the XBOX need a HD of some sort for LIVE software & downloads? If we could not D/L stuff, that would suck. I know they have flash memory...but a HD seems to be easier...even with a 8gig or whatever it is.

There I go speculating again

Josh H 04-20-05 09:36 AM

To speculate more:

The live software could probably be pre-loaded (and updated) in the flash memory.

Game updates will probably require the HD.

I don't care about either. It's only the backwards compatibility issue pissing me off.

Check out the MTV teaser ad here (no console but see the new XBOX font and the circles logo):

Xbox 360 Revealed?
By: César A. Berardini - "Cesar"
Apr. 21st, 2005 1:59 pm

Following our previous story of the first pictures of the Xenon Development Kit, now comes another shocking image to keep us awake until May 12th. Oh you damn Gamem8ker!

The latest challenge has revealed a new photo and this time it could be the real deal. The big question is, what exactly are we looking at?

The picture, which is taken from an odd angle, still brings up many questions. This could be a removable hard drive and the button on the top could be the cover for the dock in which a removable HDD would plug into. Perhaps the silver part is a handle that can be lifted out for easy carrying. There have been rumors that the Xbox 360 can stand up vertically, so this could be a picture of the console when placed vertically.

http://media.teamxbox.com/dailyposts...or/xbox360.jpg

Last year, when we ran our first big editorial on the Xbox successor, we predicted the next Xbox could end up sporting a grey, metallic look, like the Satin Silver PlayStation 2. We went even further, hoping that the next Xbox could mimic this design of Apple’s 1U rack-mount Xserve which also has an anodized aluminum case.

If the picture above is a photo of the exterior of the Xbox 360, then the following picture, seen a few days ago, might showcase the innards of the new console:

That is a real pic. What you see is the hard drive mounted on the end of the Xbox 360. Remember it stands up right, this is the top, when standing up right. The picture is shot from the same angle as if you were reading the side of a cereal box but looking at the top.

Josh H 04-22-05 01:19 PM

Weird. So the thing stands upright and the HD add on goes on the top?

Does this mean that you have to stand it upright to put the HD on it?

I hope not as I have no room or desire for a verticle standing compenent in my HD.

I imagine they're smart enough to make the HD work either vertically or horizontally, but who knows with them.

how did I get dragged into this?

fuck microsoft. <----- there, okay? I've had just as many complaints about that company as I've had praise. same with sony and nintendo. I think I got myself pegged as a microsoft cheerleader because they were such a target for ridicule on this forum and I tend to fight for the underdog - yeah, how can one of the largest corporations in the world be an underdog? Well, you gotta admit, it was an uphill climb for them entering this arena and people weren't initially willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Much like how some people would declare with total conviction MS wouldn't be getting their hard earned money due to some inexcusable reasons (totally rendering any further and future irritants with the system moot) and then continue to endlessly complain about how its design is so poor that it won't fit on their shelf or how none of the games interest them or how the system is far too expensive... and then the same people would be the ones who were quickest to point out how other forum members were constantly console bashing and warring. I'm not really talking about anyone here - I've just seen this happen before on other forums. This place is different which is why I like coming here so much. :D

Flay 04-22-05 03:06 PM

Vertical is cool. I can move the Cube or the PS2 over a whole 4 inches to make room.

If I'm even still playing them at the end of the year.

Josh H 04-22-05 04:31 PM

I can't fit it in height wise in my home theater vertical, plus it looks dumb IMO. I never got the appeal of the vertical stand for the PS2 either.

Guess some people like things too look different. But I'm a neat freak and like my HT to be nice and tidy with everything as uniform as possible.

Thank you. Just wanted to say that this post made my day.

It appears a certain someone is finally getting called out in many of the current threads after years of spouting their constant whining. :consume:

Hey, I'm not naming any names... ;)

Josh H 04-23-05 05:01 PM

I was hoping things would be better this generation compared to last launch on this board.....but I guess not.

It just amazes me how easily people get annoyed by others posting negative opinions about the console they love. The fact that they love a console is pathetic enough, but to get upset over other random people's opinions on the internet? -rolleyes-

I'm going to post my opinions on all consoles, both pro and con for all of them. I don't bash any consoles or defend any consoles. It's just people posting opinions. It tends to get repetitive as the same topics come up again and again, but that's the nature of message boards.

Some people need to show some more maturity.

Ah, the good ole days. Yah know, I wasn't planning on covering the Xbox 360 as extensively as the Xbox barrage 3.5 years ago, much less at all. But Josh, I think you have juiced me up for the launch. :frankie:

There's just too much maturity around here these days. It's time to lighten the mood.

whatever, looks to me like you're still spending way too much time complaining about video games and consoles that you have professed to have no interest in and no intentions to purchase, same as always. Do what you want, Josh. I'm not a moderator and I have zero say in what you can and cannot post. I haven't once said anyone shouldn't say negative things about xbox or MS... I haven't even really argued with anyone's negative comments. Sorry if you took something I said personally - I was just trying to be funny... tell you what - let's just allow this thread to get back on track and we can go back to trying to ignore each other.

Josh H 04-24-05 06:38 PM

I was talking about no longer getting upset over other peoples opinions about consoles. Even if they're bashing troll posts I no longer jump on them like I used to.

I'm not going to stop posting opinions on all consoles. I've always been interested in reading and discussing about all aspects of gaming, from marketing strategies, to design choices, to game lineup etc.

And I never said I have no intention of buying an X-box 360. All I said is I won't buy one if the cheaper version doesn't have backwards compatibility.

My main knocks on the X-box this gen were the lack of japanese games (and that may be remedied from what you've posted, and it's ridiculous size which isn't an issue as the 360 is smaller than the original PS2.

Right now the next gen purchase list looks like PS3>Revolution>X-box360. But I'm waiting until a good while after all three are out next gen to buy one. I have a ton of games to catch up on this gen as is, and I'd like to only buy one console next gen and this will give me time assess the game libraries for each and buy the one with the most games that appeal to me. The PS2 saw the most action from me this gen, so the PS3 is the frontrunner at the moment. But things could change in the year or two.

Trigger 04-24-05 07:30 PM

I... don't... care...

I've had like 4 or 5 posts in this thread - one was a bit of a joke with a big smiley face. Hardly evidence of me 'getting upset'. You've had like 40 or 50 posts in this thread... nearly all of them negative and culminating in a comment like "fuck MS, they're never getting my money if that's the case". If I really cared, I would've stepped in sooner and said something or reported your posts or cried about it. You can say whatever you want - I'm not even gonna complain that your next gen purchase list puts the 360 at the bottom yet you spend the most time talking about it. I really don't care. Look - I'm done with this thread - you can have the last word if you want... say my ass looks fat in my jeans or... whatever. Sorry to anyone who feels my contributions to this thread have dragged it off course. My bad.

Michael Corvin 04-24-05 08:27 PM

by the looks of this thread, it could have been lifted right out of 2001. :)

sdcrym 04-24-05 08:49 PM

Yeah, where are the mods anyway? By now, I would've expected at the very least a stern warning.

It's coming out this fall, pictures and info are leaking out, so of course it's the one I (and everyone) are talking the most about. :D

We know nothing about the PS3 or Revolution other than sketchy rumors at this point, so there's nothing to talk about with those.

And just because it's last on my list, doesn't mean it has no chance. That's just a very tentative list based soley on the number of games I've enjoyed on each console this gen.

I'm going to follow each of the new consoles closely and look forward to learning what they are all capable of and discussing the pros and cons of each console as the info is revealed.
