Gran Turismo 4 and old PS2's.. Problem loading the game..

Does anyone else have the same problem as me? Apparently, they put GT4 on new, untested media, and the old PS2's (I bought mine right after they came out.... early 2001 maybe?) have a VERY hard time reading them. You really have to fiddle with it and sometimes it will finally load. I'm pretty fed up with it. I went to EB today and they give $75 for used PS2's, but new one's are $150. I'm not about to spend $75 to just replace something I already have (My current ps2 plays all my other games with no problems). Any suggestions on what to do? Call Sony? Would they care? Any ideas on how I could go about dealing with this problem would be appreciated. I'm a broke college student, so please take that into consideration. :)

I have a V1 PS2 and have no problems loading GT4.

I would try giving Sony a call, it is worth a shot.

the only problem I have had is that the screen will get all shaky and will lose resolution when a race first starts or ends. I have a first gen PS2.

I gave Sony a call. They are sending me an e-mail with info on how to send it in to be repaired. I've got a feeling they will send it back unrepaired though. My warranty seal is broken on it. I guess I'll just cross my fingers.

Thanks guys.

Mine was too, and they still fixed it. So you have a chance.

Sweet.

I have the PS2 that came with GT3, so I don't know what rev. it is, but it loads fine.

I do have the shakey problem, but only when playing in low res. so it reminds me I have to switch the settings everytime I play. My bro-in-law has the new thin PS2, and he still gets the shakiness too.

I have a V1 PS2 as well with no problems what so ever.

Try turning on the self-diagnostic tool under the PS2 boot up menu. I think that is supposed to help "re-calibrate" the machine. Seems to have helped me in the past....
