Best Buy & used games

My local best buy (sterling, va) started buying back used games via the reward zone program. I couldn't find a thread on this so I'm wondering if this is just here.
I had 4 games for trade:
Mech Assault - 6.25
KOTR - 6.00
Wario Ware - 5.00
GC Viewtiful Joe -1.00

I decided to keep Viewitiful Joe. The process took a lot longer than I think it should. It took her 10 mins to look up the 4 titles. Apparently they can't scan or she just didn't know how. She had to scroll through this alphabetical list and find the titles. Then apply the credit to a gift card. Then you have to sign 3 pieces of paper, she has to get all your info off your drivers lincense, make a copy of your reward zone card and then ring out the gift card.

I also noticed that all the used games seemed to be price at 9.99. Didn't see any good titles though.

None of the BB's around here are doing that, hopefully they will soon.

Wow, terrible credit prices.

I hope the one here starts selling used games though. $9.99 is pretty good if you can occasionally find a decent game.

Some of the newer, bigger ones, the ones meant to attract "angel' customers with their sit-down couches to play videogames and personal shop assistants, have them here in SoCal. Surprisingly, I've seen dreamcast games (and a dreamcast system) there. Nothing worth buying or even looking at, really. I wonder why they want to get into this area of business... won't it take away from some of their new game sales?

I bet they want to start selling warranties with them. Seriously.

Furthermore, it seems like they and EB are in serious contention for "least money for your games" category.

$1 for Viewtiful Joe? That's ridiculous.

Pretty crappy values.

Regardless of what tanman says, I think GameStop gives the worst, followed closely by EB. In both cases, it depends on the current promotions. GameCrazy and GameRush are sort of hit and miss.

EB is the best right now, they are adding $5 to their normal values when you bring in two or more games. Can't beat that with a stick, for most older games anyway.

Game stores make more profit on used games. They pay crap for them and mark them way up and get a wider profit margin than with new games.

If you have the manuals and it is in good shape, I'll give you much more than that for it! Jeez!

Josh H 02-24-05 09:52 AM

Yeah seriously, I'll paypal you $10 for it, e-mail me if that's agreeable. :D

Well, the crap games I saw them get in will never sell... and meanwhile, they're taking up valuable inventory space.

I now see what they can gain out of it, though... this particular BB is right next to a Gamestop... and if they can get enough people to trade in games to them, they could put the GS out of business.

You can beat that pretty easily. Gamerush is giving $15 off each pre-order w/ any two trade-ins. That's $7.50 extra per game. Plus, if you don't want a new game, you can pre-order something and refuse it when it comes in and get the full value credited on your account.
