Video S/Component System Selector!?
 

Has anyone bought any?

There are different brands out there. I seen them at Gamestop, Target, Best Buy, ect.. They range from prices $100-$20. I want to buy one but I'm not sure which one is the best out there for the right price.

any thoughts/opinions?

That's the one i have,and it works just fine for me.

I use one of these http://www.audioauthority.com/aaccon...1154c5577.html. A bit pricey, but works great.

I bought a cheapie one from Radio Shack a few years ago, it was maybe 20 bucks. S-Video only, but that's fine for me at this point. :)

While this model seems to be the standard for component switching amongst gamers (the cheap ones really aren't that great), I would hold out another little while for the newer version that comes with the remote (supposed to be out in March).

If you are holding out for the cheaper one, save yourself $10 and get the other Pelican s-video switcher mentioned above and run your component connections through the RCA composite selectors. There will be no, or at least negligible, quality difference.

Pelican Universal System Selector Pro

I seen them before. I always wonder about their quality. I don't really care what the price is below $100. I just want to make sure that I don't get riped off by buying something expensive that has the same quality as a $20 product.

I like my Pelican Universal System Selector Pro, mainly for the optical audio switching. I used to have a bunch of "normal" composite system selectors, one of which was used to switch between component video, and that worked fine. As I don't yet have HDTV, I can't attest to whether or not the Universal Pro handles that fine... there seem to be dissenting opinions about it.

Whatever you do, do NOT get one of those cheapie ones that have all three plugs (Xbox, GCN, PS2) connected to the three composite and S-video wires. I bought one of those for the bedroom, and it's terrible.

I bought the Pelican System Selector from Circuit City about a year ago. It's probably one of the better accessories I've purchased for my PS2. I had it hooked up through my VCR for a while and it was just a pain in the butt. I also couldn't tape anything and play games at the same time.

Definitley pick one up if you need extra inputs. It's worth the money.

I'll also cast my vote for the Pelican Pro, I've got it, and it's served me better than any of the others (I've tried Pelican's smaller model, a few cheapies and the MadCatz one). I like being able to share the digital audio AND network connection through the selector.

Nice and cheap. I use it to switch between game systems and my (rarely used) TiVo.

Apparently this company and RCA use the same parts...that's exactly the same as my RCA switcher :)

I think i've also seen the exact same thing (slightly greyer color) made by RECOTON as well..

I've had the Pelican Pro for a little over a year now, and for the consoles (I have all three), it works very well - but when I run my DVD player or cable through it, I tend to get either video or audio issues. I really bought it for the consoles, but having it run everything would've been perfect. I've got enough inputs on my TV to cover, however.
