Best RPG (console) in 2005

I have not picked up KotOR 2 yet, but I am soon. I know Jade Empire is coming out this year, and I will try Champions of Norroth 2 when it comes out, but what are some other good RPGs you guys are looking foward to? Any online? I do not have the machine (or budget to build one) or the time to play any PC titles, so I am looking at console only.

Xenosaga Episode II is coming out, but YMMV on that depending how much you liked Xenosaga Episode I. Personally, I'm looking forward to it.

Why limit the discussion to console?

Anyway, my most anticipated RPG's for 2005 are Jade Empire (Xbox) and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (PC).

Get a GBA Player and enjoy the tremendous amount of RPG goodness on the GBA. Golden Sun I and II, Zelda Minnish Cap, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, etc, etc, etc.

I'm really looking forward to Final Fantasy 12 on PS2. It's being directed by the same guy that did Vagrant Story on PS1, which is one of my favorite games.

Looking forward to Champions Of Norrath : Return To Arms, but I believe that's more of an Action/RPG hybrid.

I'll go with these as well, but put DQVIII above KHII .

My money's on Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts, Jade Empire and Final Fantasy XII. I have a feeling I will buy and love every one of those, but I think Jade Empire is holding the most interest for me right now because it's a "new" series.

PS2 will not be touched. Just with 3-to-punch of KH2, DQ8 and FF12 alone. Then we have Suikoden 4, Ys, Digital Digital Devil, Wild Arms F possibly another WA later in year, Sega Ages Phantasy Star, Romancing Saga,Musha2, Radiata, Nippon's Phantom Brave/Disgaia sequel, and about 5 more I can only picture but not remember names too, etc.

Since it came out the Playstation has been the forerunner in the RPG department. Xbox unfortunately lacks even though KOTOR and Fable were good, GameCube has a few good ones too like Tales of Symphonia and Paper Mario, but neither can compair to Sony. Mostly because of the Square partnership.

If True Fantasy Live was uncancelled and announced for 2005 that would get my vote for the Xbox for sure.

Man, Paper Mario 2 took me by surprise in a big way in 2004. For my money, it was the best RPG in 2004. I thought it was going to be a though game to play coming down from the highly excellent Tales of Symphonia, but it far surpassed everything I was expecting from it (and more).

PS2 is my champ this year for good old-school styled RPG greatness though. Rumors are floating around that Namco may actually localize Tales of Rebirth (based on trademark registrations, please be true), Kingdom Hearts II has been announced for September, Ys VI is coming soon (even though I've already played through this game twice..) and Dragon Quest VIII will hopefully hit before the year ends.

Rumors are that True Fantasy was moved to Xbox 2 development.

My PS2 would be on eBay right now if not for this year's lineup of RPGs. Especially Xenosaga Episode II.

I'm playing Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door right now, and it's fantastic. For 2005 I'm mainly looking forward to Jade Empire.

Pixy, I'm looking forward to Dragon Quest VIII, but while I think it'll be a good game, I don't know about it being one of the best of the year. We'll see; you really liked Tales of Symphonia, whereas I enjoyed it but felt it was pretty derivative as far as Japanese RPGs go. I'm also still not exactly sure how it's supposed to fit with Tales of Phantasia.

Anyway, I'm also really looking forward to Phantasy Star Trilogy, but I don't think that quite counts.

Right now I'm betting the same as Groucho -- Jade Empire and Oblivion. Incidentally, have you guys seen the screenshots to Oblivion?

Suikoden IV hasn't had great reviews (although I'll be getting it anyway). Probably steer clear unless you're a fan.

I think Oblivion was rumoured to be on a next gen console wasn't it, so not on any of the current lot.

I'm thinking FF12, DQ8 and KH2 as some of the leadrunners for console RPG of the year

I'm going with the majority on this. I'm picking up FF12 and Jade Empire when they hit the market. I still want to finish FFX. I'm about 50-60 hours into it, so I think I'm getting close. I haven't played it in about 4 months. I have no interest in playing FFX-2.

For me, FF XII and Jade Empire for now. And I bought Minish Cap yesterday. Didn't know Dark Cloud 3 was coming out; I loved DC 2 a lot -- a very underrated RPG.

I don't think it's getting much coverage in the US yet, but recently, Stella Deus for PS2 looks like a gorgeous and very deep strategy RPG. I seem to remember reading that a lot of the development team behind Final Fantasy Tactics is working on it, but I'm not sure.

Another great RPG out now in Japan is Magna Carta. I have no idea if it's coming to the US, but I wish my Japanese was a lot better so I could play both of these games.

I have heard of Magna Carta and have seen the artwork for it, great stuff. I've never heard of Oblivion though, who develops that one?

Oblivion was and is rumored I guess to possibly reach stores at the end of 2005, PC most likely has a better chance of getting a sooner release because I think they want to release it on next gen Xbox and PS, so who knows when those will be released.

Ditto. Though I would probably get Oblivion for the next X-Box instead of PC.
