I just got this and have barely played it (I just got into the castle). It'll take me all semester playing it 5 minutes at a time... this is great Zelda goodness... I love the whole atmosphere. I can already tell it's going to be a good game.

Now when GC Paper Mario comes down to $10, it shall be mine. Yes it shall :D

joeblow69 01-25-05 10:47 AM

I'm playing this on my gameboy player on my TV, and I think the graphics just don't look right. They don't seem as crisp as what I remember from the SNES version of Zelda. I guess that's the style they chose (to be more like the Wind Waker?) but I don't like it.

GatorDeb 01-25-05 10:24 PM

I am so loving this game. I just got to
Spoiler:
The Minnish Village, after myself small. I love the whole small thing.

I made my peace with my suckiness at games a long time ago so I'm using a Gameshark with infinite health, rupees, shells, etc :) I love just going through the game.

This game reminds me so much of Golden Sun (I beat #1 but was so Golden Sun'd out that I never got into #2). Lots of mini things to figure out. Especially where you have to
Spoiler:
put the wooden trunk on top of one of the switches while you stand on the other one to make the fire turn on.
That in particular was something you had to do in Golden Sun.

It is one of the best games I've played in a long time.

Warning to those trying to get 100%:

Don't take the final element to the santuary until
Spoiler:
you get the light arrows.

If you do, you can't get that item.

namrfumot 01-27-05 10:52 AM

how do you get out of the town after i've beaten the first boss? i've caught all the damn chickens, etc

Spoiler:
Show the guard that you know the spin attack and he'll move.

namrfumot 01-27-05 11:27 AM

I tried that Jeremy...to all three guards but they keep walking right in front of me! I've tried it right in their face, and a few steps back!

Talk to the guard on the west side of town. Then he'll see you can do it.

namrfumot 01-27-05 11:46 AM

DUH! I never talked to him after i learned the move..just before..doh! thanks guys

Ugh..I'm stuck again. I'm in the Lon Lon ranch and I've done everything except ride a tornado over to a Goron on the other side of a fence..the guide I use says:
"Push the rock in the hole, and go up the ladder. You can use the tornado to go to the platform on the west. Jump down here, and push the other rock in the hole. Give the Goron a stone he wants (if you haveit). This will get a Goron in town."
Everytime I ride the tornado my toes hit the side of the platform and I can't get up on it...no matter what angle I take, no matter how quick I do it..my toes hit.

Any ideas?

I just read about that part in Gamefaqs.com. Even though I had no trouble at that point, it seems to be pretty tricky to do. Just keep trying, you can get to other platform. I gotta say, this has been a great game so far. And I looked at gamefaqs only to get the bottles, as I had so much trouble finding 2 of them.

What exactly are you trying to do? If all you want is to get the stuff that will let you go to the third temple, you don't need to bother with the goron yet, I don't think.

namrfumot 01-28-05 01:40 PM

No but if I don't get the Goron now I'll forget about it and never get sround to doing it.

I never got the fourth bottle from the Gorons... I found four of his buddies, but never found the fifth kinstone hook-up to get that last one.

Whats the best weapon to use on Wizards?

<strike>Mirror Shield... as always.</strike> Nevermind.

For me, the hack and slash technique works best. Just stay out of their way and then hope they appear in front of you with their back to you. ;)

I always have trouble with the Dark Knights.

What I used on wizards was the Boomerang, it works well on all enemies in that it stuns them for quite a bit of time.

I finished this recently and thought I'd post my thoughts.

Overall, fun addition to the Zelda world. It looked great and played great.

I really enjoyed some of the new items and thought the Minish world added a cool angle. The way things were broken apart across the world was a nice touch to learning and earning things -- such as the sword techniques or magic boomerang as side items instead of being standard. The Kinstones overall added a unique experience to the game, although I wish there had been more of the "quest" style ones. I finished with less than 20 left and really enjoyed what some did but got tired of the standard treasure/monster ones.

I was addicted to the figure collecting just as in Wind Waker, but ran out of shells too quickly and never completed my collection.

In the end, I did have some disappointments however. I really longed for a couple more full-blown dungeons. Dungeons have always been the best part of Zelda games for me, so the few didn't quite satisfy. If you dump the side material, this also makes the game rather short in my opinion. First time through should take longer to piece it all together and future excursions will be briefer still.

I also felt the difficultly level was a bit on the easy side from the get go. Some parts or areas were harder than others, but overall it seemed too simple as a first-time through. I had heard that the final boss was supposed to be very hard and had all four bottles filled with red potion. Ended with three full. So, while I wasn't looking for an extreme challenge, I was kind of let down by the ease of the game. As a note though, I am sure without some of my upgrades, this would have been more difficult. Some of the puzzles were very cool and I liked the various areas requiring clever use of multiple Links.

Again, overall though, very good and I really enjoyed it and will definately keep this in my Zelda rotation, but I wonder if future play throughs will be too easy or quick. Only time will tell.

Will I like Minish Cap if I don't like RPG's and never played a Zelda game?

I am thinking of this game after playing a few seconds in a store. I want something engrossing, a little challenging with the puzzle elements, but not too hard where I need a manual or FAQ. I am not great at games and do need help a lot to tell the truth.

So I never really played a Zelda game, maybe a bit here and there so kinda indifferent. And don't like RPG games, but I don't think this one is.

So if I can have some unbiased opinions I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

The Minish Cap is pretty easy if you've played the other zelda games. I imagine if it's the first one you've ever done, you might end up checking the faq quite often, though. A lot of the "puzzles" in the game aren't really puzzles, they're just the way things are always done in a zelda game. So if you've never played one before, I think you're in for a tougher time than the rest of us. Not that that's a bad thing, though. I wish I could go into each Zelda game with a clean slate. A big part of the fun is figuring all the little quirks out.

You might want to start with A Link to the Past. A great game and a little better introduction to Zelda than Minish Cap, in my opinion.

And Zelda games are not RPGs, so don't worry. They are action/adventure. Lots of exploring and combat, gaining new items to access new areas, but no leveling up, deciding between stats, etc.

GatorDeb 01-30-05 12:35 PM

Hey you all need some help with the first dungeon.

Spoiler:
I'm at a room with two big stones and a square in the middle where there was a key. The door where I came from is now locked and the door to the left leads back to the place with two mushrooms and two bridges... what do I do from here?

Thanks! :)

GatorDeb 01-30-05 04:24 PM

Ok, figured it out, now I'm trying to figure out how to kill the first boss :)

glassdragon 01-30-05 04:32 PM

you have that air sucker thingy right? use that on him till his feet are all sucked up. Then watch out, he will try to collapse on top of you. Stay away from him. When he falls give him some Grandpa's sword whip ass

PixyJunket 01-30-05 05:09 PM

I have a cold and power played this weekend. Without guides I managed to find all but 1 heart piece and only have 3 more kinstones to fuse. I am about to give up though.. I've scoured the map 100 times and talked to everyone multiple times and nobody wants to fuse.
