I highly recommend staying away from RedOctane.

They were slow to ship games / never got them in and then ONE YEAR after cancelling my membership they e-mailed me and accused me of not returning a game.

Lots of bull -- I think it's run out of somebody's basement, and not particularly well. Oh, they left me on their spam list, too.

RedOctane is terrible. I had no problems with them until I tried to cancel my membership, at which point they bent me over and buggered me like a $2 whore. It took nearly half a year for me to get things sorted out with those scumbags.

I had similar trouble with Boomeranggames.com. Everything was a-ok until I cancelled the service. A week after I cancelled, they tell me they never received two games, and charged $99.98 to my credit card, ON TOP OF another $25 charge for an extra month of membership that I didnt want, and they never actually provided. Terrible. Fraudulent, even. I had to dispute the charges with my credit card company, and I'm being told now that my account has been forwarded to a collection agency. Lovely.

I'll never deal with another online video game rental place again. Ever. Pity Blockbuster is so expensive. They're not offering the Freedom Pass anymore, either, which was an excellent deal.

Blockbuster had a freedom pass for $20! Any two games for up to a month, or switch out those two games once a day!

I did it for one month and it was great! Hope they run it again.

I am trying it out. With the free trial, I figured why not. I signed up Monday afternoon and they allegedly shipped the same day. Haven't gotten the games yet. It appears to be out of the west coast. 2 games at a time. I'll keep you posted.

Wal-Mart and Blockbuster are supposed to introduce plans very similar to Netflix soon. If Netflix can withstand that, they intend to offer video games too.

I noticed yesterday that my local EB is renting games for $1 a day and the clerk mentioned that they may be implementing a 'freedom' pass rental plan in the next 6 months.

Gamestop and Funcoland have "Free" 7-Day rentals. Just buy a game and return it no questions asked 7 days later.

Well I ended up canceling my Gamefly account only because I am not that big of a gamer to warrant the monthly cost. I must say I was extremely impressed with them and especially their customer service who responded within a couple of hours everytime. On average it took maybe three days for my game to arrive and maybe four for them to receive it.

Funny as hell. Seriously does eB have a rental program? Not in NJ I suppose, I don't see that here in JC.

Just remember that all the free trials for these programs include shipping time. So a 14-day free trial means they have to have the games in their hands by the fourteenth day if you don't want to get charged.

I am curious about Gamefly as well. The guys are on The Screen Savers right now. 22 buck a month for unlimited 2 games at a time.

I am using Gamefly right now and I recommend it. I tried 3 of them out, Redoctane, Gamefly, and GoVoJo. Gamefly is easily the best. They have the best inventory and fastest shipping (overnight to S. California).

I was wrong, it is EGM that had the article. The sent away for 3 different games. Never got them from Redoctane or GoVoJo. Gamefly was recommended and so was one other. Gamefly has the option of buying the game if you really want, which may be a plus for some.

Giving this a bump. I was wondering if anyone knew of any online game rental services on the East coast? I am using gamefly right now, but games usually take 3-4 days to get to me, and recently their stock and speed isn't as good as usual.
I might just be spoiled with Netflix having a warehouse only a few hours away.
