Universal System Selector Pro HD $24.99

This seems like a good deal for a nice system selector. A couple months ago this was priced at $80 so this is a big price drop.

hmmm, seems like a good deal but from the description its not really clear exactly what connections and how many of each this thing has.

NeonGlow 11-22-04 08:13 PM

Here's a link to an older post about this. I think it's the same thing.

Wow this is cheap if it is the same setup. My brother just bought one from Best Buy a couple of weeks ago for $100.00. This is stated as a pre-order. Maybe they are making a cheaper version with less connections?

rgarcia 11-22-04 08:21 PM

I did some searching and came up with these threads. It looks like the same item.

Pelican System Selector Pro $89.99 @ Best Buy

pelican's system selector pro?

Hot deal on Pelican System Selector Pro at BB.....

>>> New component switch at BestBuy for $99. Seven inputs! <<< ----AVS Forum

I am very interested in this selector at this price. Could we get some current owners to post their opinions.

Trigger 11-23-04 12:27 AM

Maybe I'll pick one up for no reason.

nickdawgy 11-23-04 04:10 AM

I got a regular Pelican selector for $15 after the GGC a few months ago. Works great. Might be even cheaper now.

Michael Corvin 11-23-04 08:09 AM

Wow! That is a killer price. I bought mine almost a year ago. Works like a charm.

Just needs a remote. :(

Jeraden 11-23-04 08:20 AM

I have one and think its great.

My thoughts exactly.

Including the remote.

I saw the Pelican Universal System Selector Pro HD today at Wal*Mart for $24.95, and assuming this is this same thing, then it's not exactly what they show or describe. It's alot smaller than the one they show, and it only has 3 inputs on the back and 1 on the front. It has Component, Composite, and S-Video, and Ethernet, but no Digital Coaxial or Digital Optic for the sound only the standard Stereo hookups. Also, the 4th input on the front doesn't have Component or Ethernet, only the back three do.

Still, it's alot cheaper than most system switchers. I think I'm going to buy one, because I need an extra component input.

If you do purchase it, be sure to take some pictures.

msdmoney 11-24-04 12:31 AM

Thinking about it, but I am wondering if this is the unit with 8 inputs since there are conflicting reports.

dgmayor 11-24-04 07:20 AM

I just got one of these from buy.com for about 80 bucks (the one with 8 inputs etc etc) and love it. Agree though on the remote!

Jeraden 11-24-04 11:37 AM

Initially I didn't think the lack of a remote was a big deal, as I figured I'd be getting up to turn on/off systems anyways. But what frequently happens is that I decide to go play some games at night, turn the xbox on, turn the tv on, turn the system selector on, go sit down. Then realize I still had the selector on PS2 from the previous night, so I have to get up again and switch the mode. Yeah, not a huge deal, but I can see why a remote would have been nice now.

Exactly. I had the same exact thinking... and problem. That and I find myself switching to Tivo or a DVD after playing and have to get up to change it.

I bought one at $99 and it's one of the best buys I've made. It's a steal at this price. As far as the remote goes I never need one. My TV has multiple inputs so I use this switch for just my DVD player and Consoels. I use the alt inputs on my TV (which has a remote) to switch between the TiVo and the console inputs.

description says it has 7 rears and 1 front

jiffy97 11-25-04 09:06 PM

Has anyone pulled the trigger on this deal? I was actually looking at this product last week for $100. $25 would be great. Just wondering if it is valid or if you get some "out of stock" or "typo" excuse...

khai 11-25-04 10:03 PM

I found the scoop.

Vernon, Calif., November 2, 2004 - Going on the premise that bigger is not always better, Pelican has introduced its new High Definition System Selector that connects multiple video game, audio and other entertainment systems to your television. The new HD System Selector has been downsized from Pelican's enormously successful and critically acclaimed System Selector Pro , first introduced in 2003, in order to offer consumers a more compact, sleek design for their entertainment system or desktop. Perhaps of equal importance to consumers and retailers, the HD System Selector , which is available now, arrives with a suggested retail price of only $24.99.

The HD System Selector allows you to connect up to 4 video gaming systems or other video systems using component, AV or S-Video connections. It also allows you to use multiple systems online via a Broadband Ethernet connection. The HD System Selector offers superior picture quality when hooked up to any high definition television.

"The new design is intended to offer consumers a choice," stated Pelican Product Manager, Shilo Prychak. "Our previous system selector, the System Selector Pro, is a more high-end unit with a subsequently higher retail price of $99.99. The HD System Selector offers a lower priced selector that fits into a more compact space for people who simply don't have the room or the money to spend on the original design."

So yes, the description and pic are wrong. This unit will be smaller and have 4 inputs rather than 7.

NeonGlow 11-25-04 11:41 PM

I guess it's time to cancel my order.

JoCo 11-26-04 10:46 PM

I have a question about both of these. What if I have a Xbox and PS2 with digital output and a game cube with standard output. I want to connect to one of these before going to my receiver. My question is will it separate the different types of audio going to my receiver. So on my receiver I just have to turn it to my game setting and just pick which console to use from there.

_tony_ 11-27-04 12:56 AM

i still don't get it. how many component connections does it have?

Shuki 11-27-04 11:30 AM

and if teh no digital audio is tru I'm cancelling my order too :(
