Mario Tennis (GAMECUBE) Thread
One of my favorite multi-player games for the N64 was Mario Tennis, and the GAMBECUBE follow-up come out tomorrow. I've only seen one review, which was from planetgamecube.com, so I take it with a grain of salt, but it seems to be a worthy title.
Anyone looking forward to this? It looks like they have some better environments this time around, and more characters that contain "special moves". Sounds good to me? I plan on picking this up at launch. Anyone else? |
Count me in. My wife is actually excited about Mario Tennis so I'll be picking it up tomorrow. I've played the demo and it's a riot. I'll be broke from here till tax returns...

Mario Golf was insanely fun and I have no doubt that Mario Tennis will be any different. I like golf better, but tennis involves more direct competition.. this game is sure to be a multi-player blast.

Thank you for specifying GAMECUBE in the subject header. I was sure this was going to be about the Xbox version.

I'm just teasing ya. The N64 version was top notch, and I continued to play it even after I bought my Gamecube. I won't be picking this one up immediately, but I'm sure I'll get it sooner or later.

definite must-buy for me.
|
I still play the N64 version with my nephews. Since they are coming over this weekend, I will have to have this on hand as a suprise.
|
It seems like i've been waiting for this title for years to come out on the GC. Finally!!
|
Hopefully Fry's will have a good price on it.
|
I'm skeptical about this title after Mario Golf, which was terrible IMO. I do love tennis games though, so I definitely will give it a shot.

Originally posted by Joe Molotov What? Mario Golf was great. I've had fun with both the GBA, GC, and N64 versions. But even so, Mario Tennis 64 was alot better than Mario Golf 64, and I'm expecting Mario Power Tennis to be even better still. But, I didn't like the GBA version, either, so maybe my vote is skewed. I am picking up Mario Tennis, though, so hopefully it will be fun (after I finish Halo 2, GTA:SA, and Paper Mario....). |
I totally forgot about this game.
That makes one game per platform I want this week: GC: Mario Tennis PS2: Jak 3 Xbox: Halo 2 |
I loved the GBA version of Mario Golf, but only thought the Cube version was average until I did the linking up. The linking with the GBA version saved the console version for me. (on that topic)
Anyway I've got Mario Power Tennis on preorder and can't wait to pick it up. I never really got to play the N64 version so this should be a treat. |
Picking it up for sure.
I was not a big fan of Mario Golf either. Dont worry folks. But, I enjoyed N64 Tennis, so I am sure I will enjoy this too. I remember having lots of fun on that with Multiplayer. What a great time to be a Mario Fan after a long slump of mediocre Mario games like Sunshine & Mario Party 5. Between Paper Mario 2 (just an excellent game which is creative and reminds me why I was a Mario fan years ago) and this, I will get the mario fix I have been missing out on for a long time. After playing Sunshine and the last recent titles and not being impressed, I figured maybe I just grew out of the franchise. After playing PM2 and completing it, I was glad to find out I was wrong. That game was one of the best Marios in many years though IMO. Havent been that involved in a Mario since a tyke. A cool world, great gameplay, nice Storymode with lots of info, etc. I loved the flow and was hooked by it. |
Looks Like IGN gave it an 8.5
The Summary-- 9.0 Presentation From the gorgeous FMV intro and slick menus to the unlockable characters and courts, the presentation is excellent. 8.0 Graphics Pretty, but not drop-dead gorgeous. The graphics are clean, colorful and fast. While some of the backgrounds suffer, the models are beautiful, particle effects insane, and it runs at 60 frames. 7.0 Sound Music is lacking. But the character noises and one-liners are as funny as ever. Runs in Dolby Pro Logic II, too. 9.0 Gameplay Still fun. Still addictive. Still one of the best tennis games on the market. But the additional power shots and Gimmick Courts are a mixed bag. 10.0 Lasting Appeal You can spend months with the multiplayer mode alone. The added Special Games are not a necessity, but they don't hurt, either. 8.5 OVERALL: (out of 10 / not an average) |
I'll have to look at this one, if it's half as good as Mario Golf was then I'll be getting it.
|
Gameplay and Lasting Appeal are the most important things to me.. looks like a must-buy.

So it comes out today? Are there any deals on it?

So, unfortunately, $49.99 seems to be the best deal, unless of course there are better deals the day after Thanksgiving. However, if I remember, Mario Kart came out around this same time last year. I don't think it had any special deals after Thanksgiving other than $49.99. If anyone has any other news or deals, feel free to update us. Thanks! |
I think I will try to return a place holder game from Toys R us and give it to my brother for Christmas. I really had fun with the N64 version.
|
Looks like Gamespot gave it an 8.9
I'll be picking this up today. |
I am enjoying this title. The power shots add a different element to the game, which really comes out when you play against someone else.
The tennis physics are really dead on again this time. 2 thumbs up. |
