Halo 2 reviews are up

Halo 2 reviews are now up! Looks like this is going to be what everyone who loved the first one was hoping for the sequel. Kind of disapointed to hear gamespot say the campaign is short and storyline is disapointing.

IGN review 9.8

Gamespot review 9.4

Gamespy also has a review.

Gamespy 5/5 stars

Love this quote from EGM...

I've played roughly 15 hours of multiplayer battles in the past two days, after having played through a 24 hour single and multiplayer session a few weeks ago. We have Metroid Prime 2 in the office, with Metal Gear Solid 3, Prince of Persia 2 and Half-Life 2 on the way. All those great games, and there's nothing I'd rather do than play more Halo 2.

I'm gonna wait for more reviews to come in

Kicker_of_Elves 11-07-04 11:39 PM

Same here. I thought I was the only one not getting a boner over the game coming out Tuesday

I got my copy about a week ago.

If you are good at Halo, don't play on the normal difficulty. You should play it on heroic, and then move on to legendary.

The story was great, but some people won't like the ending.

It's one of the best games I've ever played....

THE MUSIC!!!!! Oh my god.

Halo 2 could give Xbox a profitable quarter

Rob Fahey 10:19 08/11/2004

Microsoft's Christmas hopes pinned on Bungie's eagerly awaited sequel

This week's launch of Halo 2 is not only Microsoft's most important game launch of the year - it could also drive sufficient software sales to give the firm's Home and Entertainment division its first profitable quarter since the arrival of the Xbox.

The arrival of Bungie's sequel to the best-selling title on the platform marks a key point in Microsoft's efforts to wrest market share from rival Sony, and will be vital to building up the company's credibility as a console manufacturer ahead of the arrival of its next-generation platform next year.

In the more immediate term, though, Halo 2 could potentially sell sufficient units to put Microsoft's Home and Entertainment Division, which houses the Xbox project, in the black for the December quarter according to comments attributed to Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter in a Mercury News feature.

The division has lost several billion dollars on the Xbox project to date, making Microsoft's struggle to gain a foothold in the games industry into an extremely expensive venture, and in the most recent quarter showed losses of $273 million.

However, Halo 2 could easily sell around five million units according to Pachter's estimates, generating around $200 million in sales for the division, while if half of the Xbox installed base buys the title, sales could reach $400 million. Almost 1.5 million units have already been pre-ordered in North America alone, according to some estimates.

Combined with the falling cost of manufacturing the Xbox hardware, this could be enough to drive the division into profit for the quarter - although perversely, stronger Xbox hardware sales make profitability harder to reach, since the company is still believed to be making a significant loss on each hardware unit sold.

If Microsoft can manage to give the Home and Entertainment division at least one quarter in the black, it will be a major coup for the company - which has been criticised by some commentators for gaining only a 15 per cent market share of the games industry while continuing to make significant losses on the Xbox every quarter.

I took me 36 hours to finish Halo on Heroic.
I'd imagine Halo 2 will come in about the same on Heroic. The orginal Halo was also short if you played on Normal; somewhere around 12-15 hours.

If i liked but didnt *love* the first one, is the second one worth getting?

It took me 30 hrs to finish on Normal, 35 on heroic. I'm just not the stone cold gammer I used be.

Surely! You have the single person fun and now the Live action will give this game some leg! People will still be playing this game by next year on Live!

With 8 or 9 Halo2 topics on the first page alone, should we add a Halo2 sub-forum for a few weeks?

goLUCKY 11-08-04 02:05 PM

I agree!

WOWZY 11-08-04 05:46 PM

I'm about to vomit with anticipation!!

I'm gonna get owned by even an 8 year old on LIVE. Today at work I smashed my right index finger under a 400lb steel plate. Luckily the finger wasn't broken but it was gonna have about 5 stitches where it burst open. I convinced the doc to use DuraBond instead of regular stitches so that I can play tonight.

With only a few hours till gametime I wasn't thinking straight and wished that the steel plate had smashed my willy and not my trigger finger. (See what you've done to me BUNGIE!!!)

Now that I'm thinking straight, I'm more than glad that willy is alright :D

I'm gonna try to use my right middle finger on Campaign and see how it goes before I embarass myself on LIVE.

Good luck to all, especially me :D
