Activision and id preparing more Doom

Less than two months after Doom 3's release, its first expansion pack is being summoned from the depths of hell; no release date yet.
On August 3, id Software and Activision capped years of development and finally released Doom 3, the most anticipated PC game this side of Half-Life 2. Less than two months later, the two companies have announced an expansion to the graphically groundbreaking first-person shooter.

Called Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil, the expansion is (unsurprisingly) set after the events of Doom 3. when the space marine uncovers an ancient and evil artifact in the depths of hell. Unluckily for him, the denizens of Hades want their malevolent knick-knack back, leading to another round of fiery marine-on-demon action. Activision promises the game will hold "new locations, characters and weapons," most notably the double-barreled shotgun, which made its first appearance in Doom 2. The title will require the full retail version of Doom 3 to play and has not yet been rated by the ESRB--though it's a safe bet that it will be rated "M" for Mature.

"Now that fans have survived the horrors and edge-of-your-seat action of the original, Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil delivers players deeper into the heart of the UAC to uncover new secrets and technology used to destroy the demon force that's hell-bent on destroying you," said id CEO Software Todd Hollenshead in a statement. However, said statement made no mention of a release date for Resurrection of Evil, although it did say the game would be co-developed by Nerve Software, developers of Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Tides of War.

Hmmm...I wonder if they'll be including this with the X-Box version?

Nifty. I enjoyed the main game quite a bit, and will probably pick this up.

That's exciting.

it'll be interesting to see what the different areas consist of. I liked Doom3, but it'd be nice to have some more variety with the lighting.

I also hope the AI is improved.

I'll be getting it when it comes out.

Cool I'll be picking it up, though I still haven't finished Doom 3.

If it's more of the same Doom 3, you can count me out. Finishing the game became almost like a task.

I agree. Hopefully iD will throw in some more unique environments.

Completely agreed. I can't imagine anyone wants more of that. The first game had a few highlights sparsely set in a long, tedious exercise in 1994-style gameplay.
