I bought Mr. Driller because of this forum

Hello all,
I graduated college and I'm taking a year off and living in China, but I still find time to lurk around dvdtalk (lurking since 1999). Anyway, I completed all of the GBA games I bought with me, and I found a copy of Mr. Driller in a local second-hand store, and because of the constant raves this game gets, I picked it up. I've played around with it, and like it, but the only problem is that it is in Japanese. I want to erase the data on it so I can play it from the start, but I just can't figure out how to. Any ideas? Any help? Thanks a lot...

There was no option in the game for this so I had to consult the manual, which isn't fun cause my Japanese stinks. BUT I did find what I needed.. turn the game on and then hold A+B+L+R, you'll get a blue screen with two options.. choose the top one.

Now, I don't know what happens after that as there's no way I'm risking losing my stuff.. but if you come to another option I'd assume it's the typical "Are you really sure you want to do this?" thing.. choose the option that has two Japanese characters. Two characters = Hai = Yes. Three characters = Iie = No.

Hope this works for you.

Thanks Pixy, I really appreciated it. I knew it had to be different than just a menu option, because I tried everything. Anyway, its gotta be a good feeling to know that your game-buying influence travels all the way to the China, right?

DS version looks sweet. Glad to know that it'll be region-free. Hopefully the DS will show up somewhere in Xi'an sooner or later......

Thanks again

Yeah.. the menus are pretty easy to read.. but the book has kanji in it (my worst nightmare). The DS version is coming out in English, and DS will be region free.

I wrote this little site up a LONG time ago for some quick help charts for the Pacteria mode, it's a bit messy but maybe you can get some use out of it as well. At least you can use it to tell what crystals do what, etc

It's a damn shame Namco decided to skip bringing the Gamecube version, Drill Land, over here. I've got the import and it's amazing. There are five wildly different Mr. Driller games on it. The down-side is that is doesn't work properly on Free Loader discs, so you need a mod switch (which in all honestly, was REALLY simple to install).
