good mame frontend? MAME3D not working
I can't seem to get Mame3D working. I'm running MAME32 with a 27" tv and it's tough to read the game and stuff, need something easy to view the games.
Anyone have experience with MAME3D? Not sure why it's not working, I'm getting an Italian error message. |
I use MameWah because it has alot of great skins and you can scroll through the games with a mouse or trackball. It also supports mame videos so that an avi of the game's attract mode will play in the menu.

D300, what skin are you using for MAME? i love the Mr.Bond skin, but unfortunately it's 1024,768.. |
Can you scroll thru games with a HotRodSE? What are the best skins that are easy to see?

I've been trying to use MameWah, but I haven't been able to configure it just the way I want it. I find the main drawback to it is that it can't be totally navigated by a joystick and a few buttons. At least I can't figure out a way to do it. If I'm wrong, please let me know.
I like lemonlauncher, but it's not very feature-laden. It has a very simple look and it's easy to navigate. |
I'll try to answer some of these questions, but I'm not an expert at MameWah, but the author Minwah is very helpful and answers everything at this forum.
<img src="http://img79.exs.cx/img79/3555/cave_multiskin_small.jpg"> I'm using these skins because it covers the emulators that I'm using. There are more skins of the same style for other emulators here. I learned how to use the Layout Designer, which is easy to use, to change a few things around. MameWah should support the joystick and buttons. There's a default.ini file in the mamewah ctrlr file. There you can enable the joystick and/or mouse by changing the value from 0 to 1. If that doesn't work change the keyboard to 0 and see if it works. You can also change the keys in this default.ini file to whatever you want. If you want to setup multiple emulators, this page is very helpful in understanding how the ini files work for each emulator. |
In my experience a TV is almost totally unusable. I picked up a 27" Toshiba a while back (recommended on another site) and I found the text and icons to be virtually unreadable. Has anyone had luck using a TV? If so, what input do you use from your video card? Im contemplating just picking up an old 20" monitor and calling it a day.
|
My 27" is usuable, just not the best. I set the fonts to large and can flip thru games fine and the games themselves look fantastic. If I got that MAME3D working I'd be in MAME heaven.
I use the S Video input. |
OK I'm retarded. I installed MAH with the system pack and everything. In order to do that I put MAME for DOS on my machine also (I dropped it into the same directory as MAME32).
When I load up MAH I get a "no games error", I spent a while searching in FAQs or whatever, couldn't find anything. The problem is I NEVER use MAME for DOS so not sure if it's that or what. WTF am I doing wrong?? |
look for a mame.ini file maybe? I haven't used DOS MAME since MAME32 came out.
Have you tried 3D Arcade? Or is that what you call 3D MAME? I've never heard of 3D MAME. 3D Arcade is really cool, though I don't know if it would be as easy to read as MameWah on a TV. What the heck is MAH anyway? |
Mame 3D: http://www.gbcweb.com/mameeng.html
I'll checkout 3D Arcade. Basically I'd like the frontend to hook up to MAME32 since I have no experience with MAME for DOS and it's tough to do command line stuff on the Television anyway. |
3D Arcade works with MAME32. Most frontends do because MAME32 responds to all the same commandline options.
MameWah and 3D Arcade are easily the best frontends I've seen even though they can take some time to set up initially. 3DMAME looks interesting, but that site is tough to understand, while the other two both have forums for people to get help in English. :) |
MAMEWah only hooks up to MAME DOS tho, does 3D Arcade hook up to MAME32?

I'm working on my Mame machines at home again, and found this great tutorial for MameWah. Hope it can help someone.
