I agree, it adds to the realism you can say.

However, I also believe that the savings should be passed on to the consumer. We pay money to certain sites to NOT see ads, but in games we're paying the same $50 bucks for a game PLUS now we're going to see ads.

Keep the ads, lower the price.

I also don't mind ad's in certain games where they are appropriate. If it adds to the realism, then I have no problem, fake or real.

Don't mind them, they've been in games for a while (I remember being surprised about a red bull billboard they had in a wipeout game in the PS1 games... mainly because I had no idea what red bull was). I do have an issue if they put ads up during loading screens or something like that.

A great idea! Too bad it will never happen.

I don't mind it as long as it's not overdone, as in "This game is being brought to you today by Mountain Dew...Do The Dew!".

I remember loving 7Up's game back in the day. Spot or something for SNES. I thought it was pretty well made for a mascot game.

don't some games eventually becomes ads for themselves... sonic and mario represent games obviously, but they also represent a giant marketing machine

I don't care about ads... nor do i care about them affecting the price of video games. If advertising in games helps fund developers and prevents them from shutting down, more power to them. With rising game budgets these days, it'll give smaller developers a better chance of surviving.

I've got no problem with in game ads. As long as they make sense (I don't want to see Link saving Zelda in front of a Pepsi billboard) and as long as they don't do the DVD way and put forced commercials at the beginning at the disc, then i'm fine with it.

gorgo99 10-21-04 08:36 AM

Wasn't there a Kool-Aid Man game, too? I have no problem with them when used appropriately.

I work in marketing communications and have a few friends in the industry. From what I hear, the wrong people are busy playing games right now, trying to find out where to place ads. They say that ads will be pretty pervasive soon. If you really care, you have to start complaining as soon as they start getting bad.

BizRodian 10-23-04 01:47 PM

Everytime I've seen ads in games, they've been totally totally obvious, and pull you out of the game. I could say the same thing about most movies too, actually.
