Which will sell more: GTA San Andreas or Halo 2?
#51
It seems as though Halo 2 has the greater "buzz", but the vastly greater number of PS2's sold will be the factor that puts it over the top. For those that are saying that GTA is a stale concept, I have to remind you that, while Halo (and Halo 2, I am guessing) are much better executed than most - especially in terms of console gaming, they are still first person shooters (a genre of gaming that has been on the verge of overkill for a while now) and have really done nothing to revolutionize the industry. In terms of creativity, Metroid Prime outdistances Halo. That being said, as a gamer, I love Halo, the GTA series (and the Metroid series, for that matter) and I will be there to pick up a copy of each on their respective release dates.

My point on Metroid was just that it didn't feel like a Halo-ish, typical FPS...the game was different and felt new. I know you were only joking about the fanboy thing, but in my defense, the only two Gamecube games that I actually own are Mario Kart and Metroid Prime (which, I guess, if you look at it are both Nintendo products )...and I've gotten many more hours of enjoyment from Halo, typical FPS or not, than both of those put together.

Developed by Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. imprint Rockstar Games, "San Andreas" should sell more than 4.5 million units globally in its first week, which could make it one of the top sellers of all time, analysts say.
"This will be one of the few video games to sell more copies than the preceding version," said American Technology Research analyst P.J. McNealy, noting that the game's predecessor "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" sold 12 million copies. "The expectations are 13-15 million for this one," he added.

With the reviews scoring it so high SA will probably outsell Halo 2. Halo 2 is going to have some huge sales though. It will be the second highest selling game of the year easily and that is a big story for the much smaller user base of the Xbox.
I just hope the big sales of those two don't kill every other title coming out this holiday season. I'm betting Metroid Prime 2 sales suffer between the competition of Halo 2 and GTA:SA and the Nintendo fans saving their money for the DS.

I went to 3 different stores today (BB, Toys-R-Us, and Gamestop) and GTA was flying off the shelves at every store. I was in Gamestop for about 15 minutes, and the probably sold a dozen copies. I ended up getting mine at Toys R Us with the buy 2 get 1 free deal.
Oh yeah, I think GTA will sell more copies.
Also, I don't know if this is true across the installed base of the Xbox, but in my experience, most of the xbox owners I know also have a PS2 or GC or both. So many of those people will probably be buying both. Not many xbox owners only have the xbox (in my experience anyway).

I do kind of suspect that San Andreas will end up selling more copies than there are xboxes ie. in the realm of 20 million copies. Especially if you factor in pc sales and eventual xbox sales!
So it's up to us xbox owners to all purchase multiple copies of Halo 2 to win this bout!! Surely you all want a collectors edition to go with your standard edition. And how about picking up the french version so you can enjoying that glorious french dub legally!

I think GTA will sell more. Piracy has really become a huge issue with the xbox. Also, with Microsoft figuring out new ways to detect people who have modded there xbox, less modders will buy it now since they can't get on live. I think Microsoft was better off not looking for modders since they would buy the games they wanted for live.

GTA will sell millions and millions more, but this isn't why. Not even close.
