How much does it cost to have MS fix my xbox?

My xbox refused to eject my disc last night. So I did according to the instructions and stuck a paperclip in the small hole under the dvd drive. It ejected my disc but now the system does not want to work. About 1 in 10 times it will start up. All the other times the light flashes and the system makes noise but nothing appears on the screen. So I am assuming that I need a new dvd drive. Now much does MS charge to fix this nowadays? I just bought the system a few months ago(its the limited Halo system)

When I did it, there was a flat fee: $99, no matter what is wrong. That may be lower now that the console costs less.

But be careful, several people have sent in their Xbox to repair the DVD drive, and gotten it back with the HD wiped.

If you conplain, you can get them to fix it for $50, but they might stick you for the shipping.

Yeah, I tried and they wanted to charge $90-something...plus I had to pay for shipping. So, I just bought another one and sold my DDE XBOX on EBAY. Don't worry...I let the buyer know it had DDErrors

Last I talked to them about fixing my dead NIC was $100. From what I understand, they don't repair your unit, they just send you a differnt refurbed one. So I sold it for $100, add $50 and got a new one.

I don't own an X-Box, but I'd say the best route is the selling and buying a new one route.

They fixed mine and sent it back to me. They didn't just send me some refurbished one. Where did you hear that?

At this point, might as well just buy a new one.

Get a cheap memory card....and transfer the saves (if your XBOX still boots up that is)

Ya I though that too until I tried. Most of my games saves wouldn't fit on a memory card. My 3/4th of the way done save or KOTOR was 4 times bigger than the memory card.

Thank you all for your responses. I went to Best Buy and bought a new one today. I decided to get the 2 year extended warranty just in case anything goes wrong. My dead Halo system will be on ebay tonight.

I just sold my Halo System on Ebay. Hated to part with it, but liked the profit I made on it. I had played all of the games I liked though and was ready to give the PS2 another shot.

Anyway, I personally think since you plan on sticking with the Xbox you should really fix the Halo one. Guess its too late, but that is one of the coolest looking consoles every made and you may regret selling it in the long run.

Paying $100 to fix it does suck though.

I was going to try and get the Halo system fixed but I decided it would be easier to buy a new one. The Halo system looks cool and all but I don't feel like paying $100 to get it fixed. I looked on ebay and broken systems sell for a lot more than I thought they would. So after I sell my broken Halo system and the controller, it will have only cost me about $30 for a new system.

I love how all were played once and are listed as new but are not. Also shit he writes worse then me for god sakes. Also what is with his crazy shipping cost is this a some type of ebay scam or something?

The shipping is not exactly a scam (listing them as new is), but he might catch someone not paying attention and instead of a penny game you have a $20 game. Looking at the negative feedback a few people have fallen for it. People that do business this way suck.

I don't see anything wrong with his game auctions, and the only problem I have with the xbox item is the price is a bit too high. Otherwise, it's pretty cool looking (not that I'd want one, but still... those xbox skins are neat.)

Isn't there some device or trick that will let you use a USB Flash drive as your memory card? Do you know the actual file size in kb of your KOTOR save?

there was a post back about how certain usb jump drives could be hooked up to your xbox and basically used as a memory card. you needed a special xbox to usb cable which you get online for about 10 bucks. there was a website listing which drives would work or not...i forgot the site.

anyways, that would allow you to save your game saves. however, certain games dont allow you to copy the saves even if you have room...i think knights of the old republic is one of those.
