Retro Game Challenge #10 (10/4-10/10)

Week 10 is over!
The Rules:
To enter, you just play one of the games and post a screenshot (F12 key in MAME) with your score.
The deadline to post your high scores will be Sunday 11:59 PM Eastern US time.
When you post a high score, make sure to pick a new game to play by Monday. The sooner the better.
The game should be at least 10 years old and hopefully easy enough for everyone to get running.
Please don't use continues, savestates or 5 year old Polaroids for any scores you submit.
So far we have only been using MAME to play the games, but that can change, if the winner so chooses.
I am going to host the current ROMs and list of all the past winners and high scores here.

The Games:
(click the titles for info and how to play)

Asteroids (rev 2) - Winning Score: D300 68260

Q*bert (US set 1) - Winning Score: D300 745125

Rolling Thunder (new version)- Winning Score: Lampei 149580

The Prize:
Whoever gets the high score for one of the games picks the next game that replaces it, so we should always have 3 to choose from. You also get your name engraved permanently etched onto this eye catching trophy with a genuine Sharpie!

This Week's Winners:

How do you get the artwork to work Roto? It's still just showing up the same bland gray even with the artwork downloaded.

The word "unblowupable" is thrown around a lot these days...

There is no way I can come close to that close. It's like "unblowupable"

You download the artwork from here
Save the zip file directly to the artwork folder in your mame installation
make sure your "Use additional game artwork" settings look like this

I think that's all.

By the way you need a pretty fast system to use the artwork for Asteroids. I'm using an AMD 2400+ with an old video card and I only get 50% framerate. I'll try it on my other computer later that has the good video card, but from my experience the video card doesn't really matter with mame.

I can use the artwork and run at full speed if I lower the resolution to 640x480x16bit color depth and turn off the sound

What key combination are you using devilshalo? I played a little bit last night and turned the keyboard 45 degrees, but the arrows aren't exactly layed out in a nice "X" pattern like I need. I assume I could get used to it after playing for a while, but I'd rather not. I'm considering reassigning the keys to 4,8,2,6 on they numeric keypad but not sure if there's a better method you're currently using.

His Mac probably has a special Q*bert friendly layout. A gamepad works pretty well for me.

The screen changes extremely quick after you die. I hate having to wait 10 seconds to start a new game too.

That's no excuse for his Asteroids screenshot.
On the positive side, seems that we have popular games this week. <But I still hate Q*bert>

I just use the arrow cursors. Took me a lil bit but I got use to them.

And I'm at work on an evil PC.

I don't know if it means a whole lot coming from someone who liked Q*bert on the Atari 2600

Even on the Atari I'd turn the joystick to an angle.
