Gran Turismo 4

Some new pics posted on IGN.

Granted this RX-8 is from the photo mode, but WOW! The game is still rendering that. Imagine playing something that looked like that in real time.

New in-game snow rally shots with polygon crowds.

Can't wait for this bad boy to be released.

Gran Turismo 4 gets a release date, goes offline

http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/09...s_6108402.html

Upcoming racing sim to be offline only; online driving planned for next year.

At a press conference held during the first day of the Tokyo Game Show, Sony and Polyphony Digital have announced that Gran Turismo will hit Japanese shelves on December 3, 2004. A North American and European release is currently targeted for December 14. Additionally, it has been announced that the upcoming version of Gran Turismo will not have an online racing mode. That functionality is planned for a new Gran Turismo game, tentatively planned for release in 2005

LAMEO!

This is exactly why I finally bought an xbox for games, to play online racing games.

Sony's acting a fool.

What kind of crap is this?!?!?!

What's the point in buying this version if there's an online version coming out next year?

Looks likes it is coming in December but with no online play. They will release on online version later. Kind of sucks to have to buy an online version later if you want online play.

I seriously can't believe that. This was supposed to be the centerpiece of their online gaming expierence. It's beyond stunning that they would drop it at such a late date.

Bye-bye Gran Tourismo, Hello Forza Motorsport.

This sucks.I guess we can expect to see the online one sometime in 2006 then, judging by how long it has taken to get this one out.

I am glad Forza is slated to come out at about the same time.

To think, this was the game that was going to get me to finally buy a broadband adapter.

Wow. I bought a new PS2 w/the bundled network adapter in anticipation of GT4. No other current or future PS2 online game interests me.

I was going to buy GT4 on release date, but now, I'll just wait for the online version. Looks like I'll have $50 more to spend this holiday season. Thanks Sony!

I was also about to buy the new Driving Force Pro steering wheel in advance of the GT4 release... good thing I didn't.

I have this game pre-ordered through the gamerush deals, now I think I may have to change it, I am not even sure I will use it online right away, but I don't want to have to buy another version later in order to be able to play online.

Wow, that is seriously suprising. Maybe the figure that the game is so great that people will just buy both. Halo2 could have probably done that and it probably would have worked. It would have sucked ass just like this, though.

Can someone explain to me why this game is taking so long?

I swear every time I see something about GT4 I think "didn't that come out years ago?"

When GTA San Andreas can go from no name, no screenshots to on the shelf in about 8 months...this blows my mind.

And the "no online at launch" is laughable.

Me thinks they are having a hard time translating the great looking screenshots into an actual playable, smooth running game.

There's no way the game will look THAT good.. the images above are twice the resolution a standard TV can output. Are there any vidoes of the actual gameplay yet? I'd like to see those.

Man, I might actually have to buy a PS2 now. Ironic that I only bought a PS1 to play EA Sports' NHL and the first Gran Turismo.

Why the heck did it take so long if they aren't gonna put in online play? Seems kinda stupid, as that was the main feature I kept hearing about.

....and just like that this game jumped into my must have list again. I know it won't look that good on the TV, but man that's incredible. Picture one is now my wallpaper. I live here, I was on that exact spot at the new year and it looks exactly like that. Damn.

Pre-rendered images are weak.
