Marvel Vs. Capcom 2: Why is it so expensive?

Is it rare or something. I saw it the other day used at EB Games for 54.99.

It's hard to find apparently. I saw the PSX2 version for $58 at gameland in Torrance CA. The saleshole(manager I think) was telling me how popular it was and how they didn't have it for XBOX. I ended up buying Capcom v SNK for $18. When it(Marvel v Capcom) came out it was all over the place. I didn't buy it right away because I had it on Dreamcast and it was one of my favorites on DC and I had basically finshed it. So I was in no hurry.

But now, everyone is trying to find it and everyone selling it has raised the price.

The value of the dreamcast version was really getting up there before it was released for the ps2 and xbox. But I think what really made the value start to go up was when Marvel signed an exclusive deal with EA so that meant no marvel vs capcom 3.

Dammit, shouldn't have sold mine when I sold my Dreamcast :)

An exclusive deal with EA? My God, EA is worse than the Yankees!!

If your local TRU has it instock, its $25 there (part of the green tag 50% off sale).

Superboy 09-19-04 09:27 AM

I have it for Dreamcast but saw it for $20 at a local store for Xbox. It's not really rare, nor is it really that good of a game. I dont' see what the big deal is.

It's actually only $20... a pretty good deal! :)

I pickup my copy last December under $15 plus taxes. It's still SEAL cuz I love my DC version so much and hardly touch the PS2 version ;)

DeanoBKN 09-19-04 06:58 PM

It's out of print, but worth every penny IMO.

I assume that the EA deal did not cover all Marvel characters, since Activision has the rights for the X-men now (X-men Legends), as well as the Spiderman movie games...

Lastblade 09-19-04 08:15 PM

So which version is expensive?? Xbox? PS2? DC?

Oh i'm well aware of this, I have no idea just what they got out of this deal anymore and nothing has popped up about it since then.

So is it as rare as Raz that I got for $5 at the CC sale and sold for $50 on line? Trust me not many games are rare. I also seen people saying Ico was rare but I see that game all over the place.

Also even if EA now owns some of the Marvel stuff can't Capcom still bring out the old games they made based on the Marvel stuff? Also I don't think EA owns all the Marvel stuff allot of company's own parts of it.

No. EA owns the exclusive rights for fighting games using the Marvel characters. That's why Activision can make Spider-man and X-Men games.

how is the PS2 version compared to the DC version. I had the DC one a while back and loved it, played smooth. Looking to get the PS2 one but I keep hearing of a lot of slowdown during gameplay.

any thoughts?

Jamezuva 09-20-04 09:11 AM

I haven't played the DC version, but with regards to the ps2 version, there is some slight wait times for loading, but i don't notice any slowdowns during actual gameplay.

the Xbox version is $30 at walmart

Gotcha

Gizmo 09-20-04 02:16 PM

The Xbox one is harder to find then the PS2 one. Originally, the Xbox version was to have Live included, but cut at the last moment (and was delayed 3-4 months because of it).

Demontooth 09-20-04 03:25 PM

I paid $10 for the xbox version, I don't really enjoy the game that much
