Fustrating months for gaming!!!

Anyone feels that the recently the game market totally sucked(PS2,PC,XBox,GC)?
1) XBox, have not touch that sucker in months.
2) GC, even worse, totally no new games coming out in what feels like forever!!!!
3) PS2, errrr......nothing really exciting but choice wise, definately better than the other 2 consoles.
4) PC games...... nothing i can think of. The last good game i played was Far Cry.
Thinking of getting Ground Control 2 but holding out for Doom 3,if it ever comes out!!!

What games are you all playing nowadays anyway?

Galanthas 07-13-04 09:57 PM

Just some of the recent releases (May-July)

Xbox
Spider-man 2
Metal Slug 3
Psi-Ops:The Mindgate Conspiracy
Theif: Deadly Shadows
NCAA Football 2005
Rallisport Challenge 2
Full Spectrum Warrior
The Chronicles of Riddick

*July not yet released big game releases
Sudeki
ESPN Football 2K5

PS2
Spider-man 2
Front Mission 4
NCAA Football 2005
Megaman Anniversary Collection
Splinter Cell:Pandora Tomorrow
Psi-Ops:The Mindgate Conspiracy

*July not yet released big game releases
ESPN Football 2K5

GC
Spider-man 2
Megaman Anniversary Collection
Splinter Cell:Pandora Tomorrow
Tales of Symphonia
The Legend of Zelda:Four Swords Adventures

This time of the year is usually slow with releases, but this year has been better than years past. I have no complaints this year. I was playing Spider-man 2 until recently, then switched to a mystery game that was released July of last year. Megaman Anniversary Collection also arrived from Gamefly today, so I'm reminiscing days long past as well.

Homer Simpson 07-13-04 10:21 PM

Pikmin 2 is just around the corner and Tales of Symphonia just came out today. Good games are in the eye of the beholder (or the hand of the gamer) I suppose.

vhgong 07-13-04 10:27 PM

Tales of Symphonia looks good though. Maybe i'll go check that one out.

It's a great time to go back and revisit some titles.

Static Cling 07-13-04 11:01 PM

Even though there isn't anything huge that came out in the past two weeks (at least for me, anyways), I have such a huge backlog of new-ish games that it doesn't really matter. But oddly enough, the game I find myself playing (other than online poker) is Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. Just put me on a desert island with online poker, SMAC, and X-Com (and a computer that can run them), and I'd be happy.

Captain Harlock 07-13-04 11:03 PM

It's summer time. People are outside doing other things while the kids are off from school. Like the other members said, maybe it's a good time to revisit some of those older titles.

Seriously, go rent The Chronicles of Riddick for the Xbox. It's awesome and looks amazing and can be beaten during the one-week rental period. Totally worth the price of a rental and then some.

Also Rallisoprt Challenge 2 has dropped in price to $29.99 and is a wonderful, fun game.

theneobez 07-13-04 11:10 PM

I've been playing FF Anthology and FFX, I'm always atleast 2 years behind in games though.

Lastblade 07-13-04 11:14 PM

I am playing Prince of Persia (Xbox), not a bad game but as I am playing it.... even tho it is a really well made game, at 50%, I am not even sure if I care to finish it. I just don't feel compell to play it.

Believe it or not, I have more fun playing Sega Bass Fishing Tournament against my wife! That and Super Bust-a-move, both games only cost me $5 but they are more fun.

joshd2012 07-13-04 11:17 PM

I'm happy we have these slow periods during the summer. I know that this fall/winter my bank account is going to take a beating with all the games that are coming out.

Outlaw 07-14-04 12:02 AM

There's quite a few good games coming out that I've been eyeing for Gamecube like Tales of Symphonia and Pikmin 2, and for the PS2 its Star Ocean 3 and La Pucelle.

It sounds like you're bored of gaming, go do something else for awhile, your console will be there when you're ready for it :).

I think what got me started "whining" about this slow season is that when i saw the kinds of games the Japanese market gets compared to the American ones, the Japs seems to have a waaaaay better selection than us. Check out the site
www.playasia.com and look at the variety of Asian games(Especially the PS2) they have. Sheesh, thats the kind of gaming i would love to experience. The American market looks to be quite dull compared to them i suppose. Just my humble opinion.

PixyJunket 07-14-04 08:38 AM

Don't worry, Madden and GTA will be out soon and all will be better.

Save Ferris 07-14-04 09:25 AM

Believe it or not im totally hooked on the simple, fun gameplay on "Secret Weapons Over Normandy" for xbox

Flying classic planes and some experimental ones in dogfights and bombing runs... It gets really addictive!

Josh H 07-14-04 11:44 AM

I rarely buy games at launch, makes no sense to pay $50 when they will be $20 or less in 6 months or so 99% of the time.

Thus I save money and I always have good games to play.

I just finished Sly Cooper and I'm playing through Prince of Persia now. Next up are Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance, Ratchet and Clank Going Commando and LOTR:ROTK.

jrutz 07-14-04 01:02 PM

On the contrary, I think it's been a killer summer for games. I'm an Xbox owner, and having Riddick, Full Spectrum Warrior, Rallisport Challenge 2. But cross-platform, we also have Red Dead Revolver, Psi-Ops, Spiderman 2 and now NCAA 2005. That's plenty more than I have time to play, and even if you get through all those you still can stock up on cheap, older titles to fill in the gaps.

I think NOW is the best time to be a gamer, there's so much quality out it's crazy.

Too add to my earlier post, I do agree that it's been a slow year for games.

Maybe my interest in just waning further in general, but there hasn't been a single game that's came out that's been a "must buy/play" for me so far this year. There are definitely some coming this fall though, with Metroid, Halo 2, etc.

tonyc3742 07-14-04 02:02 PM

Maybe I'll have time to actually finish some of the games I've gotten recently, either at launch [I generally wait, as well, unless there's a good price/freebie or I *know* I'll love the game, which is rare] or for discounted prices.

PS2
Spider-man 2--looks great, but I don't want to spend full price on it
Front Mission 4--looks good, somewhat repetitive; if/when I can get it for ~20, I probably will
NCAA Football 2005--don't do football
Megaman Anniversary Collection--got it, ~20 bucks. fun old school. And yes, I play on Easy with Navi. I suck, sue me.
Splinter Cell:Pandora Tomorrow
Psi-Ops:The Mindgate Conspiracy
i'm not really into these type of games. Although 007:EoN [I know it's not new, but it's still full price] looked pretty cool, and had varied gameplay.

Isn't summer usually somewhat slow? We just passed E3, and that's what most of the publishers were gearing up for, so now it's like post-Christmas....plus, kids are probably hearing 'Go outside and play!' from their parents.
I'm usually 3-6 months behind the 'current gaming' trend.

What I'm currently playing:
La Pucelle
Megaman Anniversary
Final Fantasy X-2
Maximo
Arc the Lad TotS [this is on the bottom of the pile, for when I finish FFX2 or LP]
Simpsons Hit and Run
And a random other unfinished game or two every now and then. I need to go tweak my deck in Culdcept, I was getting my butt kicked so I haven't played in a while.
But honestly, La Pucelle's got me addicted right now.

peon73 07-14-04 03:34 PM

it is pretty dry this summer for games. i was hoping halflife2 and doom3, but those look like fall releases

vhgong 07-14-04 04:12 PM

Doom 3 gone gold. I am saved!!!! :D

Ralph Wiggum 07-14-04 07:11 PM

I've also quit buying games at launch for the most part. Unless it's something like Halo 2 (which won't hit the bargain bin), I just wait a few months. So, I've been having a fantatic gaming summer with my XBox. There were two excellent "new" releases to kick it off:

- Metal Slug 3
- Chronicles of Riddick

Now, I'm grabbing the games which I was waiting on price drops for:

- Beyond Good and Evil
- Prince of Persia

DVDHO 07-16-04 10:31 PM

I feel the same way bro so I made up my mind im only buying GTA:SA,Madden's 2005,ESPN 2k5 and just bought NCAA 2005 and that's what im playing for the next 6 month's.

I know these game's are sequels but im so sick of playing and seeing every game a sequel, where is the originality these day's?,they have the hardware there just not doing anything with it except bite the #1 game on the market and release crap cloan's(think driver 3).

I think thats why the Japanese game market is much, much more interesting. They have so much more variety.

Funnily enough, the Japanese market apparently looks quite dull to them as well, since Japanese game sales have been going through the basement over the past few months. The grass is always greener and so on.
